The longer this shutdown goes on the more I realize we have been sold a bill of goods and have destroyed our economy because of modelers that didn't exist in previous pandemics. Corona is no worse than other pandemics we have endured but it was hyped up to be the new black plague which it definitely is not. As people said from the beginning it's a bad flu not an end of the world plague.

When you reduce real people to just numbers, then
nothing seems "that" bad. When YOUR dad dies at 65 instead of 75 or 80 ... it's a big ****ing deal.

You can claim perfect rear-view mirror knowledge, but this virus was a real unknown. The 1968 pandemic was a mutation
of a known virus and we knew it was seasonal. We don't know the life cycle of Covid-19 yet, and we don't know
the lingering health issues of the disease on survivors (kidney and blood clotting issues).

 

Flu Arrived in Dec 1968.
Flu season ends about June 1969.

Woodstock happened in August 1969.

But given that Brazil is having a spike in the disease and it's the middle of their summer, that is a shaky "if".

An should actually start to ascend in those southern hemisphere countries as summer winds into winter. Again, yes?

 

Between May 3 and May 6, they had a 50% increase in reported cases. If that's not a spike, I don't know what is. Since
we were talking about the possibility of Covid being seasonal, and the fact that Brazil is in the middle of their summer, then
this is not a good sign.

Have you read any reports about the college spring breakers traveling from parts diverse and who packed the beaches like sardines in Florida dying of coronavirus? I haven't. Most likely they did carry the corona back asymptomatically to those diverse parts and spread it, however. I think it is possible that high blood alcohol per cent might protect the young university students from the corona. ​

I don't know where you get your information, but the increase from May 3 - May 6 was 25% according to this.

They are hardly in the middle of their summer. Much of the country is tropical and the notions of summer and winter don't make much sense. The temperate part of their country is in the middle of fall.

 

Your newspaper article in the post says hat there was a vaccine available against this flu, which is not the case against Covid-19.

 

Yes indeed hindsight is perfect and in hindsight we overreacted by shutting down the economy. Learning from that mistake we need to open this economy up immediately.
