People in the media are comparing Japan's win against Germany to Saudi Arabia's defeat of Argentina. Lets get some perspective here. Using FIFA's admittedly imperfect ranking system... There is a gap of 13 places between Germany (11th) and Japan (24th) The difference between Argentina (3rd) and Saudi Arabia (51st) is 48 places. There is no comparison.
I was trying to be more sympathetic towards Ronaldo but he's up to his old tricks again. Falling over in the box from the lightest of touches. Another soft penalty given. Got to say, the last couple of days the diving has really started to piss me off. The Poland Mexico game was full of it and one of the Croatian players did one so obvious I was surprised the VAR team didn't score it for style and difficulty factor. Thankfully Ghana has equalised to cancel out Ronaldo's penalty but it's all starting to sour the WC for me yet again. Bollocks Portugal has scored again as I was typing. 2-1 to the cheater's squad. He's no GOAT as far as I'm concerned. Unless it's greatest cheat of all time, along with Maradona of course.
That is more Schadenfreude, the rivalry, maybe some arrogance. We are seeing a shift. WC was a South American and European affair, that is shifting, Asia and Africa are catching up. Most of the Japanese and S Korean players play in the top European leagues. They are rather good. Look at the African players in those leagues, they are top notch. Any of those teams can give a S American or European team a very hard time and even beat them.
3:2 final result Canada played rather well against Belgium, had the chance and chances. That is a good team.
I wear a silver pin on my left collar, a finger pin and at least 4-5 times a day, I reach over with my right hand and rub it. Can you imagine why ?
OK I'll explain it but they're never as funny when you have to. I complained about you using a foreign word but used carte blanche in my reply which like schadenfreude is another foreign phrase commonly used in English. I then followed up with touché and laissez-faire which are also French words. It's irony which is a popular form of British humour. Like I said ''lost in translation'' which was meant as a clue to the joke. I guess I aimed the joke at the wrong person. Trouble is your English is so good I forgot that you might miss the subtlety of a linguistic joke. Apologies, I didn't mean to cause offence.
Oh, ok. Now I get it. But since all those phrase are used in German, too. Part of the common language I missed it completely. But very well done and no dedo, hahahaha By the way Finger is German........................... pruuuuuuuuuuuuuust
The second goal was just amazing, even that it takes a lot of luck to hit the goal, if you can not see it. But still it was amazing, what body control. Could be the goal of the tournament.
I still like the second SA goal. Took down a high ball and dribbled past 3 defenders before swinging around to make the perfect shot to the top right corner. Not as flashy perhaps but showed more skill IMO. People love an overhead kick though.
