So, I posted another thread with a huge list of all of my beliefs which, in retrospect, was a bit too much. So, I think I am going to break it up a bit and just see what people think on each individual issue.

So, for foreign policy and immigration laws. It's true. We can't just let anyone in the country. We can't just leave our doors open to any random guy to come in. We do need to crack down on illegal immigration. Rather than *ahem* build a wall, I say we make legal immigration easier, and focus more on getting illegals in the country paths to citizenship. As for the Syrian refugee crisis, we do the same thing. Screen them intensively for any terrorist connections (anyone who got as far as America has been screened heavily already so) and then see if we can't get them American citizenship. I would, however, fund programs that teach English for free, make English the national language, and focus efforts on integration into American society. You can speak your native language in your home on private property, or property you own that specifically states another language is permitted, but English is the most used language in the country and we need to make that the backbone. In addition, airport screening and border patrol will become a part of the US military rather than its own separate entity. TSA guards will screen heavily, but each gate will have at least 6 "lanes" for security checks so that the process is sped up. I guess this falls under the same category because it deals with foreign policy, so we'll talk airports and such. As for aircraft, make an airline funded by the US government and ban the private airlines. Set regulation that makes flights more luxurious (minimum legroom requirements and such) for American crafts. Airports will be reconstructed to ensure fast and easier security checks. This will make air travel more affordable and easier, while still being more secure. Flight attendants will also be a part of the US military so that, in the event a plane hijacking occurs, you have military trained people defending the craft.

Strange message as you totally shift from discussing immigration to nationalization of the airline industry. I oppose doing so.

So I was on board until you got to the Language requirements and then it all went downhill from there. Forcing people to speak a language is about as unamerican as you can get. Nationalising the airline industries is just as bad. If nothing else just consider the lack of efficiency in most government ventures and then apply that to a busy friday in laguardia airport. It will not make travel more affordable or easier. THe exact opposite would happen due to inefficiency and lack of competition.

For the language requirements. It's not like this country makes it easy to not know English. Have you seen any street signs in Russian? No. So if you were an immigrant and didn't know English, life will be very hard. So in an effort to ease immigrant settlement, free English language classes would be helpful. English is really the unwritten standard of the country. You cant go to public school and not know English. So I'd rather just flat out say that instead of making it be a huge surprise to immigrants. Nationalising the airline industry is only bad when the government has to compete with private companies (ie. like the postal service and such). Look at literally any other country, their airlines are nationalised, and the fares are cheaper, and the flights are of higher quality. The national air service would still have to compete with foreign ones. Why fly Emirates when American is cheaper? Or why fly American if Lufthansa is more luxurious? If we apply more military level discipline to the air service in general, you get rid of the inefficiency. Remember, the military is a public organization, and they are just about the most efficient one in the country.

First the language, in America we are a free people. Free to live, love, and do as we please as long as we do not harm others. There are times when we do burden our citizens with laws but those laws should only be put in force to protect those freedoms not limit them without good cause. By forcing people to learn English you are forcing them to change their behavior without a corresponding need that is significant enough to infringe on their freedom of expression. While having a national language does have its benefits it does not trump Constitutional rights at this time. A community should be able to decide what language they want their children taught in. If it is a village of all German speakers then they should be able to teach their classes in German if they like. If their children have a tougher time getting farther then high school then that is the choice those parents have made.

The nationalising of the airlines is something completely different. The federal government has tried this with Amtrak and I cannot imagine things going any better. Oh and do not forget all the jobs lost in the private sector when you do this over 677 thousand jobs are at risk when this is done. In the in a free market society has brought unprecedented wealth to this country. I do not see why adding more socialism to this equations would do better.

Is it a good idea to wait until you have 11 million people here illegally before you decide to address the problem? Nope. The problem becomes orders of magnitude more difficult. That's true. So as a result, we should open up our borders? What next? We're having problems with some cops shooting people unjustifiably, so let's get rid of police departments? You may need to re-think that argument.

The argument you make about the english language is intriguing. As you say, english is the de facto language of the land, and anyone not using english is placed at a serious disadvantage. I have also always found it a little crazy that here in California, voting materials are made available in 10 languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Khmer, Tagalog, Thai, and Vietnamese. I like the idea of offering free english classes, so much so that I help out at the free ESL class that we offer through my church. If we were to make this a government program, I'd want to know how much it would cost and how we would go about measuring the success of the program. But the idea has merit.

Nationalizing the airline industry is a bit problematic on a number of different levels. As a result, I'd steer away from doing anything like that.

Can I ask, shouldn't the people in a community be able to decide what and how their children should learn? I have never seen anything in our Constitution that says that the federal government has the power to regulate curriculum or how things are taught. This has always been a local concern. While a local city providing free english classes is laudable that too should be a local decision not a federal one. Why cede that power to the federal government?

Yes, that's a very good point. The government is already overstepping its charter all over the place, we definitely don't need more of that.

Funny that when the god of the OT wanted to stop man from his technological progress, he stopped it by getting rid of their common language. Why would that stop the completion of the tower of Babel? Use your brain, and I would feel funny having to explain the obvious to you.

So, of course for the sake of intelligence, anyone who comes to America should be required to learn English. Instead of English speakers having to learn 20 other languages in order to communicate to immigrants. LOL Some of these ideas about language, and not being required to learn English is kindergarten nonsense.

In regards to illegal immigration, it could be stopped easily. No welfare for new immigrants, legal or illegal. NONE. And, any business who employs an illegal goes to prison. With a 800 number to report business breaking the law, with a reward for each one turn in and caught. It would stop illegal immigration overnight.

For the illegals already here, give them citizenship, which would stop them from depressing wages, for employers take advantage of them, and probably pay to haul in truckloads of them, in their greed.

But immigration, legal, should be tied primarily whether we need them for work. With double digit jobless rates, the real rates, we do not need any immigrants at all. NONE. So, we should tie immigration in with needs.

NO, nationalization of air transport is crazy. There is a place for a Commons, but this is not a part of it.

The last time I flew was during the golden age of flying. You were treated like someone special. You could still smoke on planes. You were not herded like cattle. The girls who brought you drinks were beautiful and young. Nice to look at, and the food was decent, didn't taste like carboard. And everyone acted like you were doing them a favor by flying with them.

I would ride a bike from coast to coast before I would fly today. They act like they are doing you a favor, and they look to be transporting dumb cattle instead of human beings.

So what other things would you like the Federal government to force you to learn? Any other concepts or classes you want Bush, Obama, or who ever comes next to require you and your children to learn against their will?

See that is the point in America we should not force our citizens, even the new ones into doing things against their will without just cause. Assimilation is just another word for tyranny. People come to America for freedom not oppression. To live life as they will so long as they let others do the same. A lot of people on here talk about how great and free America is, while in the very next breath telling us about the next law or rule they want to inflict on others. I just wish people would just leave others the hell alone. Get the hell out of peoples beds, bodies, religion, and lives.
