Let's assume that (the fundamentalist interpretation of) Christianity is real. The people who believe in the bible and God go to heaven, everyone else who thinks differently goes to hell. My question to you is: would you rather go to heaven with the mindless believers, or go to hell with the thinkers?
On the information I have ( personal and private) there is no Hell . So why assume or pretend otherwise ? The concept of Punishment does not even exist . Terms which do apply are , Guidance , Repeated opportunities to improve and above all , learning through .self improvement . The assumed Heaven -- Hell dichotomy doe not even apply . You could argue on my understandings that one "Universe" covers the two notions .
The True Believer interpretation of the afterlife is really quite fascinating. I'd prefer Valhalla, ultimately, but I think I'd choose heaven over hell. It might be less interesting with all the thinkers down in hell and only the idiots up with me, but hey, it IS supposed to be paradise, so maybe I can wish upon a Godhead and bring the rest of the thinkers up to my little corner
I need to see the marketing materials for each before deciding. What is there to see and do? Eternity is a mighty long time. One of my Christian friends told me that in heaven you get to bask in the glory of God. That sounds kind of fun. But after a week or two I'll get bored. So I need to know what else they have. Drink specials? Diving? Enrichment classes? Hell is warm I'm told, but I know most of the cool people are there. The company in Hell wins by a landslide if one can believe those supposedly in the know about who goes where. And I can party without worrying about health effects. I'll take a look at the pamphlets and get back to you.
Okay, for the sake of answering the question I'll pretend that there is a heaven and hell to choose from, depending on whether I blindly believe an incorrect interpretation of an ancient text, and in doing so go to heaven to live forever, or use my head to figure things out with the empirical scientific method which I am so proud of, and in doing so go to hell and die forever. I'll choose the moral path here and head straight to hell, where I require no promise of eternal life in order to use my brain to help people.
If you're a heterosexual man, in hell, at least you wouldn't need to worry about that limp wristed Levantine (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) Jesus of Nazareth hitting on you.
it doesn't matter, we're all going to burn in Hell for all eternity anyway. It will be as if somebody pushed you into a lake of lava, except you can't free yourself, you never pass out, and you're already dead. There's only a certain amount of pain that the human brain can experience at one time before sensory overload occurs and you can't feel any more pain. There will be no limit to the amount of pain the soul experiences in Hell. This means that the amount of pain you experience will be more painful than every amount of pain that every living thing has ever experienced, combined. And it will be like that constantly, forever. And from a very early age, we're told that this will happen to us if we aren't "good Christians". By a god whose love is supposedly unconditional.
Considering Hell is for the most part the separation of love, I'd rather dwell amongst love, bliss for eternity.
That's funny. Why are believers mindless and the non-believers thinkers? Just maybe your agenda is showing.
If it turns out that Christianity is "real", as you say.....that there is a Heaven and Hell....then that means Christians are more discerning and intelligent than YOU non-believers. So....wanna talk about "mindless" some more?...LOL
I do not intend to speak for the individual whom you're addressing, but I'd like to chime in. Believers believe what they believe. not just on faith (e.g., in the absence of supporting evidence), but contrary to huge amounts of evidence.
There are BOATLOADS of "evidence" in support of Christianity....you're ignorance is stunning. As to heaven and hell....ever hear anyone who has had a NDE speak?.....
