There may be many Earth like planets. But even Earth would not have life on it without being in the habitable zone of the solar system and without the moon. Complex life anyway. Because of the way the Earth and Moon were formed, that may very well mean very few Earth like planets with life. And then you have to factor in the rare extinction events as well. And the position of the solar system in the galaxy. Oh, and many stars are binary, so I think you won't find Earth like planets around them.

Good ole arXiv.org! I used to "live" at that site - and the old xxx.lanl.gov Los Alamos preprint archive.

I know the truth, and here it is....
Nothing we currently know in 2012 is actual fact. As with our 1900s knowledge, those ideas will quickly change from known to faulty ideas.

We most recently thought we knew what we knew with regard to our 14.5 billion year old world, aka big bang. Now, the principle which ties together our physical and mathematical principal of the entire freakin world as we know it both big and small might be screwed..... The cosmological constant which supposedly proves the smaller math/physics formulas of most all other stuff in the universe is wrong.. UNLESS we assume that the universe is bigger, aka older than the big bang. OOPs.

Now, we are told that if we just move out from our previous positions on the edge of the universe at all edges, the forumula works just fine. ARGH....

from the surface of the earth, everytime I'd look at the moon, I really find it hard to believe
    that:
    * Man has the ability to built a spaceship with the right fuel, and the right navigating system
    * eventually take off our surface, enter different layers of the middle space
    * address as it enters different atmospheres of space as the spaceship inches in to moon's surface
    * and eventually landing successfully on the surface of the moon
    * and mind you take off from the surface of the moon on a first attempt....first attempt that was. NASA is kidding me.
