I remember back when the air traffic controllers attempted to strike the government intervened and stopped the strike

unlike air traffic controllers, medical professionals, policemen, fireman , writers and actors are not needed to keep the country civil and safe

one reason I think writers were being overpaid even before the strike is simple

writers have not worked for over 2 months and not settled with the networks..the writers must have had a nice nest egg to survive for 2 month with no pay and no settlement on the horizon

the big name actors can hold out forever...most are worth a $100 million or more

think of any big name actor,,,from tom cruise to tom hanks to meryl streep to jennifer lawrence..their great great great grandchildren will be able too live on the money these people have socked away

if the government does not intervene how long before the networks begin to hire scabs??

personally , I have first hand knowledge of the power big corrupt companies have

and I also have personal knowledge of the power of the desire to make money. and in some cases the desire to survive

I bet there are some fine writers and actors that will work for 1/2 of the money the current stars are earning today,,

how long before the networks begin to divide the actors and writers??

once that happens , there will be a new union and alot of scabs in it

kinda like what happened to golf ..the PGA became divided and then fell apart

with the same happen to writers and actors??

I'm looking forward to lots of old movies... Cagney, Tracy, Errol Flynn!! The old classic sci-fi movies! Paul Muni as Louis Pasteur!
Movies with real stories, real adventures instead of just special effects and CGI!
    I can't wait!!!

I wonder if and how much part AI plays in this. Lotta movies lately seems like were prolly written by an advanced search engine... just repeats and mashups of stuff we've already done, but with PCness and modern effects. Certainly would be cheaper.

NO one cares. outside of Hollywood, more and more movies are just preachy clap trap when they have any story and half of them it seems are gay porn which no one but gays care about. In the race to fill ever smaller niches, Hollywood and the actors and writers are headed to bankruptcy court.

I am not sure I agree with your characterization of their situation. A lot of these writers are independent contractors, and they rely on residuals to survive and those are getting harder and harder to come by when people can just watch everything free online if they chose to visit the sites that lift content. Same is true for actors. Sure Tom Hanks makes a lot of money, but other than the movie about the volleyball, his films have a lot of people in them who are actors you don't pay attention to who aren't getting 7 digit paychecks and 2% of the backend of the film. They are getting paid by the day on set.

Govt isn’t the answer. Let them strike as long as they like. I couldn’t care less.

This isn't one of those times where government should intervene.

I agree the writers are independent contractors that depend on residuals to survive, and I agree they are getting screwed over..

but guess what?? the world is a changing place

how many people in history made and earned a living working in the horse and buggy industry??

henry ford put alotta blacksmiths out of business

times change...there is a new sheriff in town..called AI

and besides...hollywood has been making the same movies for 100 years now

first it was a guy on a white horse that saves the day

then the white horse guy became romantic and a pretty women was inserted and called "equity"

now it is a guy in a spaceship that saves the day and a pretty woman with a lot of cleavage dressed in latex

once in a while a new movie will be released that is actually interesting and compelling

but these movies are usually box office flops.. these days without special effects and 3D vision, a movie has little chance to be profitable.

the interesting and compelling movies are released in arthouse theaters and on streaming channels ..they make very little profit

the actors and writers are about to get a lesson in "woke"

the world has changed and maybe manual labor can also be a way to earn a living

I've only personally met one TV screenwriter. She was a local private school english/literature teacher in her day to day life who occasionally wrote scripts, often for episodes of already existing shows. Her little calling card was that she would sometimes get the name of our little boring city dropped into TV shows as a throw-away detail in the dialog or a location where people would stop as they were going A to B. I know she got it an episode of The West Wing and Bones as I was like "WTF. Did they just mention us?" She had lived in LA during her early career and just carried the side gig with her whenever she moved around.

It really isn't even just about TV/Film. I was told this past week by a former writer for them that a specific website is now using AI to generate all of its Arts/Entertainment articles. They now are a writer/editor for another website that is an online reboot of a former print magazine and there are only 2 actual writers on staff for it.

Oh if only there were some way to ensure that billionaire CEOs could make sure their writers get paid….

Is this expressing your own feelings? Or are you mimicking an answer that may be given?

Yes it is, private enterprise has consistently demonstrated that they can't be trusted.

Got it. You admit to having no problems becoming a tyrant if it serves your purposes. Never again do you have any ground to stand on if you holler about Trump being a tyrant.

Sorry but I do. Somebody being a hypocrite doesn't make them wrong or otherwise invalidate any point they may have.

Ya know, that's a point worth debating, but in this case, you're wrong.

There's no fair system when one side can make all the rules and can put the other side in prison for breaking those rules.

I think writers are over payed because I've seen their work lately.

Did you see season 3 of mandalorian, she hulk, national treasure series? This is crap. Unwatchable garbage.

Don't intervene let them go broke it's time. It's all terrible.

The writers are either terrible or studio pressure makes their creation terrible. They make to much money.
