So, China wants war. Perhaps to expand its territory into Taiwan, perhaps other places too. It just goes to show that no matter how much we would like peace, it won't happen. Time for a big military, and get ready to rumble in the South China Sea, and reduce our reliance on Chinese goods.

He is probably planning an invasion of Taiwan. I wonder what we will do? My guess, nothing. That is the same thing we did in Crimea - nothing.

Used to be nuclear powers used proxies to do their dirty work and if the opposing power took on the proxy, okay. In the case of Taiwan that's a big deal indeed if China launches an invasion. The US is not obligated to provide Taiwan direct military assistance, so what response WOULD we offer? Be kind of hard to supply Taiwan with military equipment given it's proximity to China and a Chinese naval blockade. And before anyone here starts touting the obvious US naval superiority, are we REALLY going to sink a Chinese vessel and think they're not going to respond in kind, maybe up the ante with a tactical nuke against the US fleet deployed there? Then we respond in kind and it spirals out of control. I hope China just keeps talking smack about Taiwan and leaves it at that, otherwise they'd be starting a dangerous game open to major miscalculations on both sides.

It will be interesting to see if China is bluffing, or if it's serious.

I think it all depends on the amount of resistence they face.

My brother thinks that China will go to war if Biden is elected President of the United States. If Trump wins, however, China won't go to war because they are afraid of Trump.

I think it would be a bad strategic move for China, what does it say to Belt and Road countries?

I thought that we are giving Taiwan military assistance. For example, I remember a story a few years back in which we gave them cruise missiles that could reach a couple of major dams in China. It's a huge non nuclear deterrent, as just a couple of missiles would kill millions and inundate several key population and industrial centers.

I was thinking along the lines of boots on the ground, I don't think we're treaty bound to that.

Yes... and I think that a lot of people are desperate to defeat President Trump... so desperate that they will resort to drastic measures to accomplish it.

    This girl is not stupid.....

I think that China is going all out to defeat the USA petro-dollar.....
they feel that that is their key to domination of the world economy.

Twist Ending: Taiwan invades and re-conquers China. Xi flees to North Korea, and so does Trump.

Whoever is President by February of 2021 will be in a position to create two hundred million well paying ACTING CAREERS ... as The Book of Revelation is enacted again and again and again and again..... under somewhat different circumstances each time......

    .... and also many horses......

Could there be two Jerusalem Third Temples?

    https://galgal.dreamwidth.org/tag/third+temple

Please imagine at least one.... perhaps two..... maybe even three temples in Israel as possible stages in a massive series of semi-reality plus reality films centred around various ways of understanding the Apocalypse... The Book of Revelation???

China has been prepping to expand into that area for a long time. They are currently tusseling with India also. They will be taking Hong Kong and Thailand after Joe is in office since he is in their pocket.

There is nothing we can do if they take it, its too close to China for us to defend and nobody can invade China and win, they can have 200,000,000 soldiers called up besides Russia will not allow that and our navy cannot take on China by itself in that location. Their land based missiles and fighters would overpower us.

That only leaves nukes and we aren't going to do that and let's not forget all the economic hold China has over us. They can topple our economy anytime they want. That was something Trump was trying to change but folks would rather stay dependent to China.

Spot on. Of course there are many here who would love to see our military members killed and humiliated.

China would certainly not want to, "topple our economy," since they are so dependent on our being able to pay out in full on the untold billions they hold in U.S Treasury Bonds. This is their plan for weathering the substantial growth of their retired workers in relation to younger folks, as a result of the policies they began a half-century ago to limit their population growth. We felt we needed their investments, now they need us healthy enough to pay everything back with interest.

What a disgustingly untrue thing to say, merely in order to slur those w/ whom you disagree. I would remark that you should be ashamed of having posted that comment, but I doubt that you are acquainted with that emotion.

Not only the US has an imperialist tendency and behavior - including war as a means. Others like China have that too.

I always find it funny, ridiculous and hypocritical when especially the USA accuse others of "evil things" / "accuse" them accordingly ... but it is an indisputable fact that the USA did or are still doing exactly the same "evil things" themselves . There are many examples of this ...

I don't know if your metered internet, mentioned in another thread, prevented you from watching the posted video, but that is not what any of the quoted authorities thought. The unanimous view-- which, of course, could still be wrong-- was that this is just a pressure tactic. The video cites a number of factors that would be contraindicative of anything so overt as an invasion, at least for the next few years.

One reason given was that their military had just received a number of new weapons systems, like their new fighter jets, which will take time for the soldiers to become more proficient with, in order to be prepared for any operation so bold as an invasion. Likewise, a large portion of of their command officers have come up w/o battle experience. Thirdly, the quoted expert cited that numerous developed nations, "supported," Taiwan, including the U.S., Japan, & others, & asserted that China would not be able to match their power.

Like you, I question how militarily involved we would want to get in defending Taiwan. Not only have we been fighting in the Middle East for nearly two decades, but we do have commitments/intentions to defend a number of other countries which are potential targets for Russian expansion. But, back to China.

On the domestic front, the video cites a struggling (relative to its recent past, obviously) Chinese economy, which has led to an opposing faction to Xi arising within the Communist government. Taken all together, even if they might be capable of taking & holding Taiwan, China likes to be assured of neat successes in these matters, & so there may be reason to believe that, for now, Xi would not want to risk a blundering invasion & even the potential for conflict with the USA. The video makes a fairly decent case that, for the time being, this is all bluff & bluster.
