The FACT that there were those known as FREEMEN isn't a massive clue that there were others who were NOT free and who could be bought and sold?

The facts are just not your friends.

Gotta love the irony of the appeal to authority fallacy since I quoted your own employer proving you wrong!

Based on my personal perception of people NOT on this board conservatives have no interest in or ability to understand politics beyond their total obsession with muh guns and how much they hate anyone not of the Master Race and having morals that disagree with those of Jim Bakker, Donald Trump and Adolf Hitler . OTOH the smartest political pundits I remember are William F. Buckley and George F. Will while the most decent, (not moral or smart but decent) human being I ever had the honor of being a citizen under was President Ronald Reagan and the individual I recall as having the greatest integrity and most far-reaching wisdom was President Dwight Eisenhower

I'm afraid that is not a fact.
Serfs were not bought and sold and there is no history of people being bought and sold in this country.
No records of any such thing.

    My own employer?
    You quoted a BBC webpage.
A television company. The UK equivalent of RT.
I have never worked for them.

Servi, the word in your quote can be translated as slave. A thousand years before that was written, in a country that practised slavery, that is what the word meant.

What the word meant in 1086 England however, is unlikely to be the same.
The word servi, has become servant.
Not slave which comes from the French word, esclave.

    The Normans were French.
Their word for slave is not servant, it is slave.
    Not servi, but esclave.

    Facts are your friend.
Be more careful where you look for them.
History however does not provide us with many facts. Just stories.

    I chose righties.

I must note that OP is providing an inaccurately simplistic forum.

'Smart' or intelligence is far too subjective to have any real meaning.

Lefties tend to be better at recalling specific facts they've read, which in our education system makes them smarter (they will do better in school, get better grades). Tho they lack the wisdom to apply those facts across wide spectrums. They tend to specialize in one or a few fields of expertise.

Righties tend to be more conceptual, and while not as book-knowledgeable in any one subject, more able to apply what knowledge they have across a wider range of less related subjects or skills. They tend to be more 'jack-of-all-trades.'

Personally, I find that wisdom (aka the ability to apply knowledge to reality in a useful manner) is more important than the knowledge itself, given that pure knowledge is so readily storable and accessible in various medias. Thats why I chose righties as being more 'smart'.

But it takes both to make the world go round.

I question the intelligence of anyone who is in the pocket of either side. They seem to be operating at around 50% of their respective capacities.

Not being an expert on slavery, my thoughts mean little. However, Wikipedia says slavery existed in Britain until the 12th Century. Myself, I always consider anyone who is forced to work without pay to be a slave. So no matter what you name it, indentured servants, workhouse victims, and impressed sailors are all forms of slavery.

Nice attempt at spinning but it does not alter the facts that there were slaves in Britain and people were enslaved per the documented records that were previously provided.

History has provided us with factual accounts from credible sources like Srabo and the Doomsday books.

That you are utterly unable to provide any credible sources to support your position is glaringly apparent.

Education means nothing if you have no common sense. Also what passes as education sometimes does not mean sh8t.

We used to joke in college about very intelligent Profs who lacked common sense to such a degree as to make them highly educated idiots. Prof Pines comes to mind. One of my anthropology Profs.

When I look at people that vote democratic or republican here in my area, and on forums, it looks like the right side has a bit more general common sense than the left side. Just my opinion though.

Judging by general political support of each side as to who and what they champion, I see the left as more intellectual and accepting of reality. The right (especially the extreme right) seem to dismiss accepted fact and adhere to the "Fake News" mantra. This is a double whammy in that they call anything they don't like Fake and believe the Fake things they like. It is an unfortunate position to dwell in and does not seem to have a cure. I suppose this makes them less intelligent in my opinion.

The only thing this thread proves is the political breakdown of this forum.
    67% Right, 33% left.
As for smarter, it will be answered in a partisan manner.

That would clearly be a futile gesture, as stated there appears to be no cure. I will however point out something I neglected to comment on.

These individuals often get upset and resort to anger when the issue is brought up which is another indicator.

Obviously I was referring to your "Ignorant A$$", and the many others who react to critique with anger.

The left likes to claim the high ground on intelligence, but all that proves to me is that there are more dumb rednecks voting Republican than dumb blacks voting Democrat. From my vantage point of being a very smart conservative, Democrats may have a lot of education but they have no intelligence when it comes to economics, politics, budgeting, freedom, and knowing what works and what doesn't. Democrats don't think at all, they feel. Leftist: "Well, I feel everyone should be equal." Me: "But people aren't equal in talent, intelligence, or effort." Leftist: "That shouldn't matter." Me: *gives up on the moron* or Leftist: "Yay, communism!" Me: "Communism has killed 100 million people. The worst three countries to live in in the world are North Korea, Cuba, and Venezuela." Leftist: "That's not real communism." Me: "You're an idiot."

I'm forced by the taxman to gather information together to tell him how much tax I owe, he doesn't renumerate me for this forced work. If it's handed in late, I'm penalised with a fine. We are modern day slaves.

I feel these concepts of "Rightist" and "Leftist" have been skewed and in many ways there is no longer any real consensus regarding them. So, for a fair poll, we would first have to get the definitions or otherwise it will be useless.

To be honest, many on the, so called, "Political Right" are completely deluded when it comes to economics too. :)

No fulfilling an obligation that goes with being employed does not make you a slave. However, asking a question like that does indicate you are not a member of Mensa.
