    Commentary by Dr. Patrick Slattery

Maybe Israel doesn’t always get its first choice when it comes to appointments, according to a headline in the Jerusalem Post. The Israeli gripe with Hagel, who has emerged as the front runner to be the next Secretary of Defense? He is not gung-ho in favor of war with Iran. As a senator, Chuck Hagel voted against sanctions on Iran and Syria, although he now says that Obama “is doing exactly the right thing” regarding Iran — which is, of course, harsh sanctions. Not to mention a good deal of saber rattling. The Israelis nevertheless fear that a Secretary of Defense Hagel will help Obama continue his foot dragging on attacking Iran. There is no reason to believe that he will not continue the Obama policy of billions in military aid and weapons transfers to Israel. Well, he did support aid to Israel as a senator on Israeli-occupied Capital Hill, but many Congressmen suppress their distaste for Israel and the Jewish lobby for fear of their power. Will he show more backbone in the Pentagon? Only time will tell, but at least he provides some basis for hope, ironically that rarest of commodities in the Obama administration.

It is harder to see why the Israelis would not be happy with Kerry. The Jerusalem Post says that Kerry “always voted for Israel in the Senate, he never was perceived as a leader on pro-Israel issues.” So a 100% pro-Israel voting record is not enough to please the Zionists! By the way, Kerry is half Jewish on his father’s side. His family name was Kohn until his grandfather emigrated from the Austro-Hungarian Empire and picked the name Kerry at random from a map of Ireland.

If, as widely expected, US President Barack Obama later this week nominates Sen. John Kerry as secretary of state and former senator Chuck Hagel as secretary of defense, then those already worrying about US-Israeli ties under a second Obama term will have even more to worry about.

Jewish Groups Mobilize Against Chuck Hagel

Neoconservatives have come out in force against rumored prospective Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, accusing him of being an enemy of Israel. "We will make sure every American knows he is an anti-Semite,"

    http://www.newser.com/story/159597/jewish-groups-mobilize-against-chuck-hagel.html

Disgraceful slur on a non Jewish American, I remember that ugly bastard called Ron Paul the same thing.

Time that this slur was treated as a crime, yes, a crime, and the person uttering it, put behind bars.

Experts, ex-officials urge Obama to change tactics on Iran

A group of 24 experts and former officials have called on US President Barack Obama to change tactics on Iran, warning against tougher sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

“There should be an appropriate and proportional paring back of international sanctions on Iran,” the signatories, mainly researchers and former ambassadors of European countries to Tehran, wrote in a letter dated December 6, but published on Thursday.

The letter made mention of “ordinary Iranians suffering from the effects of the sanctions” and reminded the US president of his pledges to “resolve the Iranian nuclear issue diplomatically.” “Time is of the essence, and we hope you will utilize the weeks and months ahead to pursue a robust diplomatic initiative,” it said.

“We encourage you to direct your team vigorously to pursue serious, sustained negotiations with the Iranian government...With greater determination, creativity, and persistence, we believe that such a deal is within reach,” they wrote.

They also warned Obama against envisaging military option against Iran over the Islamic Republic's nuclear program, saying it “would be counterproductive and costly.”

The United States, Israel, and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Iran argues that as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it is entitled to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

The letter likewise argued, “International sanctions...even if tightened further, are unlikely to stop Iran's nuclear pursuits.”

In addition, the IAEA has conducted numerous inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities, but has never found any evidence of divergence towards military objectives in the Islamic Republic's nuclear energy program.

So a staffer called hagel an anti-semite. Big deal.

I should think you'd be outraged that Obama would consider a person who clearly believes in a more even handed approach to the Israeli/palestinian conflict for Secretary of Defence. Won't that sorta contradict your US of AIPAC ... (what did you call it? Oh yes) - disgraceful slurs?

    Jack,
this story does not meet the most basic standards of journalism 101. It does not identify anyone, it references quotes apparently note made by anyone, doesn't say when the letter was written, who were the 24. Oh sorry its Iranian press tv.

Another of your most reliable sources like ol' davey's racist AZL. Carry on playing with yourself.

Palestinians gonna try to 'contain' Israel...
    :omg:
    Palestinians aim to isolate Israel
20 Dec.`12 — Weeks ahead of Israeli elections, Palestinian officials are already plotting a series of tough steps against Israel to be taken if, as polls predict, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is re-elected and peace efforts remain stalled.

Sure it matters. Why? Because, as well all know, the over use of that term is the act of the scoundrel, the low life dog, with no bite and all bark, just like that mutant who said it to Mr Ron Paul, on US television.

I admit, I had not heard of Chuck Hagel before, no real reason that I would.

Here's what I do know, and what is apparent...the chosenites do not want him, for some reason.

I wonder what that reason could be..

Obama to backtrack on anti-Israel candidate for Pentagon chief post

US President Barack Obama has reportedly backtracked from nomination of former Senator Chuck Hagel as the next Pentagon chief, as the outspoken critic of Israel is besieged by opposition from right and left.

Washington’s National Journal magazine said in a report on Sunday that Hagel was apparently following the Path of Susan Rice, who was expected to replace Hilary Clinton in Obama’s second term, but was not nominated for the Secretary of State post due to widespread criticism.

The report quoted an unnamed senior US official as saying that the White House was considering other candidates for Defense secretary, such as Michele Flournoy, who served as undersecretary of defense for policy during Obama’s first term, and Ashton Carter, the current deputy Defense secretary.

It came after The Politico news organization said in a report earlier this month that the White House Counsel's office has reportedly completed Hagel’s vetting process after Obama discussed the position with Hagel, the former Republican Nebraska Senator, on December 4.

Hagel, however, came under fire for his outspoken criticism of the Israeli regime and his opposition to the US-led sanctions against Iran over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

The report also said that the US administration’s backtracking came after a series of remarks made by US officials on Sunday morning.

Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman told CNN’s State of the Union talk show that it would be “a very tough confirmation process.” Former Republican Senator Lidsey Graham told NBC’s Meet the Press show that Hagel’s would be “a challenging nomination.”

“I don’t think he’s going to get many Republican votes,” Graham added.

Some American Jewish leaders criticized the possible nomination of Hagel, who left the Senate in 2008, when he opposed Israel’s interest, voted against sanctions on Iran, and even made blunt comments about the influence of a "Jewish lobby" in Washington.

“I’m not an Israeli senator. I’m a United States senator,” Hagel said in an interview in 2008.

The 66-year-old was the first Republican senator to publicly criticize the war in Iraq, calling it the worst foreign policy blunder since the Vietnam War, and has consistently opposed any plan to launch military strike against Iran.

    And we have rights too.

Not to have our politics and media infiltrated by them.

How would you feel if your entire media and politics were dictated to by Arabs?

Do you still have that vid, Gilos?

The one with Benny in black and white, the parody, on Israeli tv?

It was in Hebrew, but it was funny. I've tried looking for it, to no avail.

    Nice one.

I wish I knew what they were saying though.

What % of your tv shows are in English, or with subs?

    Approx.

Also, how does that type of humour go down there?

The most spoken lang are Heb, Arab and Russian so the subs (when there are) are foir those and not English, sadly, id love to share some of that humor here,

That show is the most popular satire in Israel and its stars are considered the best comidians, it now started its 10th session, last night was its first episode about the elections, Liberman on his resignation: "I resigned indeffintly for the next 2 and a half weeks, I also decided to close the minestry of foreign affairs, its obeselete, Israel has no forgein affairs, we decided that the time for diplomacy with Europe is over and we move to the military option"., great stuff.

Ill try to translate it later this day, depends on the work i have.

Why Russian? And why not English, given that it is really the global language, as it were.

I was listening to this Jewish women in Israel speak, and what she said is that Hebrew itself is quite a limiting language, that is to say, it may not have the vast range of ways one can choose to express a thing. I don't know anything about Hebrew, any thoughts there?

She also said that because English is not taught well info in schools, in Israel, while Hebrew is obviously pushed, it means that when many Israeli's then try to express themselves in English, be that written or spoken, what they are trying to express suffers due to it. Again, I cannot lay claim to knowing anything more about that, other than what she said.

Btw, in the Bibi one, why was that little hat, and those glasses signifcant?

    Here is the translation:

Host: Good evening and a pleasant Monday to you, the escalation at the South continues and the entire area is still under threat of the nuclear threat from Iran, the Prime minister Netanyahu returns from his visit in the US where he did not get the green light to attack from Obama.
I want to say good evening to Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu.

    (Frame:0:33)
Host: Yes…, good evening sir but what is all this supposed to be ?...(referring to the ducks)

Bibi: I'll tell you what, If it walks like a duck and it quakes like a duck – what is it?

Host: Yes…Mr. Netanyahu we all heard the "Duck speech" you gave in the US…please….

    (Frame:0:44)
Bibi: It was a hit right? Ppl spoke about it all the time right? Children will dress as ducks in Purim (like Halloween in Israel) right?, "Avazi" restaurant (famous brach in Israel, means "Goose") will change their name to "Barvazi" (means Duck),

Host: I really don’t know sir but we heard that speech and there is really no need to hear it again..

Bibi: Oh please Kizis (name of the host) its like telling Leonard Cohen we all heard "Hallelujah" now give us something to dance to…

Host: Mr. Netanyahu, if you already mentioned your speech it also caused a lot of criticism on your victimizing tone and reapeated use of the Holocaust.

    (Frame: 1:14)
Bibi: All I did was show this document….from 1944….a letter that was written by a Jewish boy to Mr. Obama that was -17 years old at the time, and this is what he wrote:

Bibi: Just a second..ill wear eye-glasses and the hat of the Jew…it will make it abit easier for me to read this letter this way….

    (Frame:1:34)
    Host: Seriously…..

Bibi: Shalom Alikhem (Peace to you, Hello, in Yiddish)
I am writing you from the ghetto in case you will someday you'll be the first African president of America,
    Don’t let it happen again,
    Watch over me
    Watch over Mame (Mother)
    Watch over Tate (Father)
    Watch over my cat Mitze

Host: Mr Netanyahu I must say there is a lot of bad taste in this..

Bibi: Oh you have a bad taste ? than eat this potato pill it will pass.
