NWO sabre rattlers? You mean the neo cons? Trump is almost 180 degrees out of phase with them.

His remarks on NK are unsettling, but what would you do about it? They are developing nukes and long range missiles and threatening to use them. On SK first, then on Japan, and then on us.

I think Trump is merely trying to persuade the Chinese to go have a Dutch Uncle talk with their fat, spoiled little nephew. It's an eminently reasonable approach.

Also, he's at bottom a builder, not a destroyer.

The biggest problem is that they have atast count 10,000 pieces of heavy artillery near the SK border. Even without nukes, they are deadly. The NK high command is our only hope.

hmm maybe because they don't want millions NK refugee into china, maybe because they don't want a unified korea ally to US, maybe because they don't want thousands US troop right on their border, maybe ...

Well it won't go down in history as the second war because it's currently only in a cease fire of the original war. As you have requested, I will not tell you how I "hope" it will go down. I will limit this to how its likely to go down, if it does go down. Military experts have already been analyzing ways to manage this threat for years and come down to two possible options, the only thing that has change since their analysis is that Trump became President. So first lets label the two military options on the table; (1) target all North Korea's nuclear capabilities and stop there, (2) full scale war ending in regime change. Trump is the residing factor on which option will be chosen. Now Trump has a personality which has publicly stated that he is not one to give warning, that the US will be feared with him at the helm to insure no other nation or Earth would even dare consider disrespecting the US if he was President. But after what we've seen so far in Syria and now Afghanistan, it is now obvious that Trump has great concerns about prolonged warfare that are costly financially and with heavy casualties to US and allied forces. North Korea is and will be Trump first real test as President as he is forced to split that line between being tough and surviving unscathed. I predict that he's cornered himself with North Korea, with no other option but using military force, or otherwise face looking as soft as all other Presidents before him that he criticized for backing down. He will want to go with the first option, in hopes that will solve the problem. But he will quickly find that it doesn't and have to commit to option #2. This is going to be ugly, this is going to get bloody, this is going to go down in the history books as another major war, and it's going to be expensive to matter how it develops. The reactions on many nations are on the line here and those possible reactions are unpredictable.

Yes, I know your position is to lay down and accept the possibility of nuclear black-mail by North Korea.

It's not my fault you don't understand the numbers or how artillery are deployed. And I already have staff time at the battalion and brigade level.

Perhaps some historical context will help understand how the US and Korea have arrived at the point we are at today?

    A Pop Quiz on Korea

    "by GARY LEUPP
(Choose the best answer. 3 points each. Answers at the end.)

"1. In 1866 the U.S. merchant ship General Sherman defied the laws of Korea (then pursuing a policy of strict isolation) by entering Korean waters, and sailing up the Taedong River towards Pyongyang to demand trade. What happened to the ship?

"a. It was attacked by local people and soldiers, burned, and sunk, with the loss of its entire crew.

"b. Its crew was politely told that since Korea was a satrapy of China all negotiations concerning commerce had to take place via Beijing.

"c. It was welcomed, and Korean officials began discussing with the Americans a Treaty of Amity and Commerce.

Both Trump and Kim Jung-un have displayed personality traits that don't bode well for peace on a peninsula that would have reunited in 1945 if Koreans had been allowed to decide the issue for themselves.

If everything I've heard about the wonders of satellite surveillance for things which happen over Syria (which I suspect are highly exaggerated, and still have my doubts about its perceived effectiveness) then the precise locations of NK's (presumably) nuke silos are already known; the way to go is for the US to pre-emptively neutralise them, and simultaneously carpet bomb the N Korean conventional weaponry installations which are located on the border with SK. This will minimise civilian casualties on both sides of the border, obviate the possible mass evacuation into China, and hopefully 'the dear leader' - who'll have been ensconced in an anti-nuclear bunker somewhere while all this has been going on - will have lost some of his god-like omniscience when he eventually slinks out of it.

I've just had a thought: all of that could be done during the planned military parade in Pyongyang today . . . sort of 'raining on Kim jong-Un's parade'??

Carpet bombing won't work against the border defences.
    They are in bunker systems.

The wheel them out, fire them, and wheel them back in again. The same way Hezbollah stopped the IDF.

You are not visible from the air until a few seconds before you fire. A few seconds after, you are back in cover.
A hardened bunker system with 10's of thousands of artillery pieces inside.
    Tunnels and trenches.

Wheel them out, fire them off, wheel them back in. They aren't just going to sit there and wait to die mate. They are humans they have brains. They have had 70 years to prepare.

Last time Israel invaded Lebanon it was a military disaster.
They had air supremacy. Technical superiority. Heavy armour and heavy artillery. Numerical superiority. Plus they were the battle hardened IDF. I expected "cake walk".

But they failed. They got stopped at the border by Hezbollah's bunker system defence. The Sagger missile destroyed all the armour. A 1960's wire man portable guided anti tank missile.

Bunker systems also worked for the Vietcong vs air supremacy.

Great. Like I said, keep talking like that and Donald Trump might search you out for a job on his military advisory staff. He wants people who think like you.

That would be an adequate solution to the immediate problem.

So what now? North Korea showed off their military "strength" in a parade. We know they have nukes. We THINK we know they can't reach the continental USA with them yet, but think they will be able to within 4 years.

Are we just going to do nothing and allow them to get stronger for when the showdown does happen?

I don't know that there's a good or easy answer to any of this.

All problems are like that. Let's pray that those with power elect the best possible if several unpalatable approaches.

Today is the day of the "big surprise" Kim promised, so far no nuclear test, looks like just another standoff.

The "big surprise" was the unveiling of a neighborhood on Thursday. They had their parade on Saturday and for those who don't know...

They just tried to launch what was probably an intermediate-range ballistic missile today. The test failed.

Will Trump just blow these *********kers already? Obviously, there missile program sucks. Now is the time to take this psycho out for good. Why wait for them to get stronger? They're not going to change.

What I hope doesnt happen is a full on military campaign that would be needed to pull Kim's teeth. Those nukes are deep and how could we be certain we got them all? Then of course Kim would send his troops rushing over the border like lemmings running over a cliff and loss of life from both could be in the millions. These are people. All the military scenarios are catastrophic

    Answer is obvious.

The Chinese or US will assassinate him and replace him with a more pliable dictator. He's now become a liability to China. He's toast. That's what I think and hope happens

I don't think the USA, or the world, would be satisfied with anything less than a democratic, capitalist nation. That is the only way to ensure that this is the END of that terrible nation known as North Korea and the world can move on.

What if we had just replaced Sadaam with another dictator? That would have sucked.

I think you're overestimating North Korea's military. They can't even fire a missile right.

I presume the South Koreans are fully debriefing the NK defectors and getting a good handle on just how loyal the officers below, say, the grade of colonel are.

Anyone want to guess what percentage of the NK military is loyal to the regime and would vigorously oppose an attack?

Maybe we should just butt out of N.Korea's affairs, or better yet, befriend them and help them re-unite with the South before leaving them alone. Haven't they suffered enough? I mean they must have a reason for hating us.

Anyway the most important thing is our coming war with Russia... and Armageddon. We made a real mess there with our continuous lies and propaganda... and we might not survive the outcome.
