Why is Trump afraid to face the White House press corps?

Why doesn't Trump conduct press conferences? Obama averaged nearly two a month. So did both Bushes and Clinton.

Why is Trump severely limiting access to press conferences held by his press secretary?

Why is Trump afraid to speak directly to Americans?

Why does he communicate 140 characters at a time?

    What is Trump afraid of?

Why give propaganda ministers any more legitimacy than they deserve?

    Hes not.

Because theres no point. All they do is ask loaded, deceptive questions like 'why is Trump afraid of the press corps?'

To keep the blatant propagandists out.

The only legitimate question in the lot. Trump SHOULD be doing the 'fireside chat' or modern equivalent where he speaks to americans without biased interruption on a regular, scheduled basis, maybe answering FAQs from citizens or something. Great point.

Twitter is admittedly a poor communication method, but its better than press conferences with the biased media.

In other words, he can't stand his ground with reporters.

If everything he is doing, if all his official Presidential statements (tweets) are the right thing for this country, then he ought to be able face down reporters.

Well, I guess you are right. Is that your answer to all the questions? Don't give legitimacy to reporters questions. Sounds about right from Trump's point of view. Thank you.

Does a president have the slightest constitutional obligation to meet with the press?

No. He doesn't. Given that why should be subject himself to a bunch of crazies hounding him.

    Would you?

Dont care. He should be working on what we voted him in to do, not pandering to the press like a 'good' politician.

You have some good ideas, but what I find striking is that we have a President who is afraid of the media, and coinciding with Trump taking office all of sudden Republicans no longer trust the media. 86% of Republicans do not trust the media, according to Gallup. http://www.gallup.com/poll/195542/americans-trust-mass-media-sinks-new-low.aspx

That is strange because all the media is does is report on what Trump does and says with his official Presidential statements or tweets. They also reported on the photo shopped WWE video Trump shared with his followers on Twitter.

For some reason, Republicans don't like this kind of reporting.

Also, Trump has many signed bills. None of them concern major campaign promises of the Republican Party, healthcare, tax reform, debt limit, budget, and infrastructure. On many of these issues, the GOP is sharply divided.

Republicans don't like that kind of reporting, either.

In the face of all this, it is little wonder that Trump does not want to face reporters. Instead, he hides from the American people. Even the press conferences are tightly controlled, no video, and short in duration. Sanders can't wait to escape from the White House press corps. Of course, Trump will have nothing to do with press conferences like Presidents before him.

But, then, everyone agrees he is a strange President.

That is hardly the point. Interesting that a Trump supporter would call the White House press corps a "bunch of crazies."

I take it you support a President who hides from Americans and communicates with them 140 characters at a time. Trump fans are a very strange bunch.

If Trump is doing the right thing by Americans, why is it he can't stand his ground with reporters? Don't answer to me. Answer to yourself.

Trump is scared to death of holding a press conference. The lowest number of press conferences by a President was Nixon at 39. We all know what happened to him.

In other words, you favor a President who will not address the American people and their interests. That is what press conferences are all about. Reporters ask questions of interest to Americans or they wouldn't be reporters.

But you want a President who will hide behind the walls of the White House and not answer questions of interest to Americans.

Trump fans are a very strange bunch.

    What are you talking about?

PRESIDENT TRUMP addresses the American people several times a day. He addressed them 160 times in the month or May alone. The Mass Hysteria (I mean Media) did not report it.

The press briefings were going great at first. Alternative media was given a voice. They were allowed to ask questions at the press conference. Now we are back to the same old people asking the same old questions, generally about Russia connections. I am not sure why the removed the video and did it audio only except maybe to deter people from watching them but I never watched the video. I only listed to them.

The media, who are invited to such things, are not asking the questions I am interested in. I want them to get someone else in there to ask the questions that I am interested in.

He is afraid of probing questions.
    He hates a free press.
He wants a fawning press or the equivalent of TASS that lies on his behalf - like Fox (Faux "news") on steroids.

You ask a question and receive several answers and you insist on saying Trump is frightened of the press! Clearly you are more interested in your own opinion and in bashing Trump, why not just forego the subtleties and just cut right to the chase and say what no one has yet to convince you of otherwise ;)

    Get this straight Shanks.

I am not a Trump supporter. There were 16 other Republicans I preferred more than him.

I do support some of the policies he has advocated.

And I think the criticism of him, much of it coming from what used to be called the "mainstream press" is so way over the top as to be dangerous to the United States.

    What are you talking about?

Are you talking about the one-way communication involving his tweets? Are you talking about his campaign speeches? Yes, he has already started his 2020 re-election campaign. He needs to be with his adoring, cheering, dwindling fans.

How did Trump address the American people and this people didn't know it? I don't count his childish, vindictive, often times ludicrous and inaccurate tweets.

Jesus. Your candidate TRIED to achieve this office and met with the press about as often as, say, the Loch Ness monster. What does Trump owe the lying slanderous press? He doesn't need them. Welcome to the age of social media. The left AND the press is pissed, they can't twist the narrative anymore.
