A majority of Americans do not want the government shut down. There is zero reason for Democrats to support an unpopular immigration policy when the ordinary downside (being blamed for the shutdown) has already been taken on by trump.

The Republicans have taken a pass on doing anything to solve the shutdown before the end of 2018, leaving it up to the Democrats to take care of when a new Congress takes over January 3. Recognizing the need to get the whole government back to work and paying the employees, the House & Senate will likely pass bills quickly, with both somewhat resembling the Senate effort of December. Then the bill will be sent to Trump to sign, he'll either sign it or veto it. If it's a veto, he will be doubling down and will also remove any & all doubt who owns the shutdown. As it stands, while he told the nation and the world he would own the shutdown - he blames the Democrats, proving he's either a liar or a coward. Personally I believe he's both.

I think he signs the bill he's given, declares victory and sells it to his base (Rush, Ann and some Fox News will be upset - who cares). If he doesn't, he'll face the prospect of the Senate & House in agreement and himself the only obstacle to getting the entire government back to work. This is a prospect some Republican leaders are concerned about, rightfully so....the polling is already bad on this, it will get much worse with a Trump veto.

Nancy Pelosi Is Spending Shutdown at Hawaii Resort
Trump canceled Florida trip for shutdown, went to Iraq to visit troops

Pelosi, who has put blame squarely on President Donald Trump for the current government shutdown, was spotted Thursday vacationing in Hawaii at the Fairmont Orchid resort, where room accommodations range from $899-a-night for a standard room to $4,899-a-night for the presidential suite.

The resort, on Hawaii's Big Island, features a golf course, six restaurants, and a 10,000-square-foot oceanfront pool. It also features a "Spa Without Walls," where the 110-minute Ali'i Royal Experience is available for $369 and a 50-minute couples massage runs $549, according to the spa menu. While at the spa, guests can snack on a gluten-free grilled prawn summer roll for $19.

I don't think most Americans care. And if the Democrats want to stick to their guns as well, the government will stay shut down.

    I still say good.

Trump will wear the Trump Tantrum Shutdown like an albatross around his neck. Sad for him, his time is limited.

They should ask whether people are bothered by the shutdown. It would probably be 95% to 5% saying they didn't care if the government was shut down.

He has to stick to his guns on this one, there are also many here who think that he is right too shut down the government over the issue. His base will not accept anything less and he needs them to get reelected.

People who have nothing better to do than accept unknown calls and answer questions are extremely unlikely to blame Democrats for anything. Would someone who is working or helping their kids with homework take such calls?

You raise an interesting theory (whether a majority or significant percentage of Americans care or worry about a shutdown), but it is your belief until you can demonstrate any polling to back it up.

    Your belief.

Back it up with polling data if you can.

His base is not enough. The 2018 midterms demonstrated that fact.

You used that same **** excuse when the generic ballot polling showed that Democrats were ahead by ~7%.

    Only 47% huh?

That must be shocking news to liberals since they were expecting trump to get all the blame

You want me to present polling? Polling isn't proof. It would back nothing up.

Roughly 30% of voters think trump has been truthful during the Russia investigation.

So no, we were not surprised that trump did not get all the blame.

It would be a much stronger degree of proof than your naked assertion of belief.

Trump has never had a gun in his life. And according to Stormy his pistol fires before even acquiring a target.
