The findings do not say that all men are smarter than all women. What they do say is that men tend to be both more intelligent and more ignorant than women. Women are all much of a muchnness compared to men, who are all over the board. This is why so many men are found in STEM fields as well as in prisons.

Your "feeling" that you are smarter than most Trumpers is what the dunning-kruger effect explains. Basically, it comes from being too stupid to realize you're stupid.

Just because medical schools are filled with half women doesn't mean anything in the age of affirmative action. That's like being proud that you got to cut in line for being female. You can feel proud if admissions is based on a meritocracy, but they aren't so it isn't.

This age of affirmative action? We had white male affirmative-action‘s for generations. So you really believe that women in medical schools are not based on merit? Is it amazing that the women who go to Harvard now graduate with top honors. Do you Believe that affirmative action give you good grades also? Did you feel proud when Harvard denied women admission? I remember in New York City I had to have a higher average to get into the free universities. I saw boys going to Stuyvesant high school Which was a ticket to the best colleges and I had a higher average but they didn’t have to compete with me because it was only boys. Standard deviation is one of the variables in hypothesis tests like t-tests, z-tests et cetera.

My understanding of standard deviation is probably greater than most people's understanding of standard deviation.

I actually know how the standard deviation equation works.

For example the numbers in a distribution are like a number line in algebra except instead of zero being the median value the mean is the median value and just like a number line in algebra the numbers to the left of the median are negative and the numbers to the right of the median are positive.

However, the negative numbers to the left of the median would distort the standard deviation equation therefore all the numbers in the distribution are squared even the positive numbers to the right of the median.

However after squaring the numbers their relative distance from the mean is not accurate therefore the square root of all the numbers in the distribution are calculated and then those numbers are divided by all the numbers in the distribution giving you the standard deviation-the average amount all the numbers in your distribution are from the mean.

Not bad for someone with just a BSc in Chemistry and Biology doing something that only someone with a PhD in mathematics should be able to do-eh???

And standard deviation is a variable in hypothesis testing for example the standard deviation or sample standard deviation is a variable in t-tests and z-tests.

I've heard the verbiage, variance (a synonym for standard deviation," used as a hypothesis test in studies on the difference in intelligence between different races in particular, the variation in intelligence between members of the same race is greater than the difference in intelligence between races therefore the differences in intelligence between races is statistically insignificant.

I performed a study on the use of statistical analysis to test macro-invertebrate metrics against a point source of pollution in a single wetland in which I used a z-test and regression analysis and found the difference in macro-invertebrates was greater between macro-invertebrates the same distance from the point source of pollution but on opposite sides of the lake than it was from the point source of pollution therefore my results were, "statistically insignificant."

You're still in Stats 101 class! You didn't start with the obvious: construction of a hypothesis test. The standard deviation, on its own, is of little interest.

HAHAHAHA, this is one of the funniest things I've read on here. Its a measure of spread. There's nothing complex about it. That you referred to it, when hypothesis testing shows you were misrepresenting again, is the only point.

 

Yea I would have tapped that. I ran up some good numbers in college but my nephew is off the charts. He is heavy into bodybuilding (like you seem to be). In the era of the internet, the tendency for individual males to get all the women is even more exaggerated. While I love and remember fondly all the college partying, it is also great to have a stable marriage where both partners are committed and faithful.

That is unless the alternative hypothesis is proven to be correct

Then you can say you accept the alternative hypothesis but then the alternative hypothesis becomes the null hypothesis

So you can say you accept a hypothesis once and only once.

Stil Stats 101! Pretending knowledge isn't cunning. Of course you fail to reject. And of course it's important that you're not reliant on just one study. However, you're reliant on a 100 year old myth based on using a measure of spread without conducting any econometric analysis. And what happens if you control for cultural and socio economic variables? There is no robust gender distinction.

 

I know hard-core feminism is such a threat to insecure boys. Real men support it. I remember years ago meeting some jerk who said,”you’re too pretty to be feminist” Because of the ridiculous stereotype. But we hard-core feminist which included millions of men, got things done while ignoring the insecure who didn’t want to share the pie.
