Went to the local Giant on Friday morning after work. Only Giant brand TP left. Empty spot where sanitizer is stocked. I was surprised only the large jars of peanut butter were completely gone. It was very crowded for that time of day but otherwise everything else was well stocked, even the Corona beer. ;-)

I own a small brewery. We have a lot of debt and an extended loss of revenue will put us under.

I think that most small businesses will be in a similar situation.
I'm hoping that pressure will be put on the banks and property landlords to grant payment holidays to those who need it.
As the outbreak continues governments are likely to working as hard to mitigate the economic consequences as they are the medical ones.

When they are speculating on a paucity of data and much of that unrefined none of the above when they are citing actual information they've actually gathered I prefer the CDC, WHO appears, at this time, to be too much in the pocket of the Chinese government.

I am more concerned with the actions needed to combat the virus than I am of the virus itself. We will survive the virus. I am not so sure about the economic repercussions.

We will ''survive'' most things short of a giant asteroid impact or a supervolcano. That is not a good reason to avoid taking steps to mitigate any dangers to health which fall short of a mass extinction event.
Your pension fund will eventually recover, many elderly and at-risk victims of the Coronavirus will not.

I was trying to be careful when I posted. We need to take the steps to control the virus. I don't expect the virus to adversely affect me or anyone in my family. However, we will all be affected economically.

I agree, there is a balance between saving lives and saving the economy.
I am not in much doubt as to which side of the scales my priorities would lie though.
I do have elderly friends and relatives that I would not be prepared to sacrifice for the sake of the stock markets.
A total collapse of industry, particularly agriculture, food distribution and healthcare could cost more lives than the virus if not protected but I couldn't really care less how many airlines or luxury cruise liners go under.

My theory is that many on the right are so invested in discrediting AGW, Russian collusion and other fake news narratives that they can no longer accept the advice of any ''experts'' for fear of weakening their already ill-informed positions on them.

Stupid panick buyers... At my local IGA people raided the produce section, not realising that said produces won't keep compared to canned or dry goods.
Me, I did my normal groceries with a few extra canned and dry goods that were on special.

Not at all, as I stated, I believe you are heavily invested in portraying them as fake news and this is why you refuse to accept any information which contradicts your narrative of discrediting experts.
Admitting you are wrong about one issue would weaken your narrative on the others so you are free-falling down a conspiracy theory vortex.

So you still believe in Russian collusion which explains your gullibility with this corona hysteria

    Huh?

    Only the "Left"?

    Are you serious?

EVERYBODY is doing the SAME Thing.

IF your definition of "Panic" is Stocking up on Groceries, Paper Supplies, Hand Sanitizer, Cleaning Products, Etc...

^IF that is your definition of "Panic"-- EVERYBODY is Doing it.

I live in a Metro Area where there are people of all political stripes.

Several of the most aggressive people in the crowds were wearing MAGA Hats and brought their carts back to cars with Trump Bumper Stickers.

Besides, does anybody really think that people who are stock-piling guns and ammo "just in case" would let the Big Bad "Libruls" buy up all the Supplies?

The entire notion that it is "only the Left" who is "panicking" is beyond misguided.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but you are WRONG.:flagus:

Hmm, when you run out of arguments and have to resort to personal attacks it is often best to just cut your loses and quit while you are behind.

You are now trying to veer off topic and are engaging in more personal attacks. It really is time for you to quit while you are only slightly behind.
I'm not a big fan of reporting infractions but am prepared to make exceptions for persistent offenders.

The first aid package passed by the government included funding for SBA loans specifically for companies like yours which get hit by the virus.
