I don't agree with the historical revisionists that want to pretend these people spread feces throughout the Capitol is just a bit of "loitering". It's the usual suspects and they always tend to run in packs with their hatred of minorities (they would be calling for the electric chair if, EVERYTHING BEING EQUAL, minorities did this. They'll deny it but we all know that's exactly how they roll).

With that said, I don't believe 8 months is a "slap on the wrist". For one, a convicted felon loses many rights once they complete their term. It is d*mn near impossible for them to find employment, housing or community services post-incarceration. They are usually shunned in their own communities and tend to have to start over in another area (unless they have a very strong support system within their family or friends).

While I understand why laypeople think of court and jail as some kind of punishment for whatever law has been broken, it's not like that in real life. Almost all incarcerated people are brutalized. This isn't just true in prisons for adults, children in juvenile detention and even groups homes and foster care face things most people can't even imagine. Basically, our "justice" system is not about helping convicts serve their time and reacclimating to society. This person is FOREVER "in the system" and forever stigmatized. Essentially, we are building better criminals.

I think this may be a reasonable sentence relative to the term and it sets the precedent for all the cases that will be heard after this one. A part me feels a bit sorry for these men and women. They honestly believed they were serving their President and he hasn't even acknowledged them beyond that first tweet about "loving you all". I'm positive they've had plenty of restless nights trying to make sense of what actually happened and their role in it. These past six months have surely not been easy for them.

Hopefully, the sentence is just long enough to deter anybody thinking about following Trump down the wrong path in the future. He clearly isn't done manipulating people but some of his supporters are hopefully done with allowing themselves to be manipulated.

Again, I am going by the legal definition — specifically Blacks Law Dictionary. You are free you use your book of attendants for reference instead but facts remain…

And I have never claimed to be psychic, that will always be my response when asked why someone did or didn’t do something.

I think they should have been given time served felonies and stripped of their rights to vote permanently like they are trying to do to others.

Oh, they happened alright, but democrats didn’t care even though there was billions in damages due to arson and looting. Plus there were the racist assaults when white people got pulled from their cars and beaten. I won’t even mention the murders. Now how does what this guy did even come close to that?

if they ever catch the people who tried to burn down a police station with cops inside I’ll bet they get less time than this guy.

I didn't read the link in the OP. Was this person in prison the whole time or out on bail until the trial and sentencing?

I actually thought about "time served" when I was writing my response. I don't have an issue with it but I think "time served plus a little bit more" sets a different tone if that makes sense.

I honestly can't tell you that I "get" this. I don't even follow celebrities. I can't wrap my brain around just blindly following anybody anywhere for any reason. I'd go to the ends of the Earth for my kids but blind loyalty to somebody else? Especially a narcissistic, self-absorbed man-child? Never.

It does not take a psychic to observe the obvious. Prosecutors tend to prosecute charges they think have some rational chance of obtaining a conviction.

The fact is this, you can carry on about the definition all you want, you are just usefully repeating hyperbolic BS churned out by the morons on LW MSM........how many hundreds arrested? How many charged with 'insurrection' ? ....NOT.A.SINGLE.ONE.

Someone sympathetic to Trump's false claims most certainly would give them a shot.

Yep. The racists were falling over themselves to help Rittenhouse.

So you can admit crimes occur even without charges being filled. Yet you keep saying no one has been charged with insurrection… why would this be your retort if that in no way identifies a crime? You use the legal definition and visual facts to apply one but seem to be able to do it accords the board…

As to what he did that comes close? He attempted to stop the constitutional duty of congress — and succeeded for a short while.

I can agree that the rioters and looters should have been charged but saying this is less of a serious crime because of that is inane.

That's their standard operating procedure. Everything gets sifted through a racist's brain and somehow culpability shifts relative to the perpetrator's and victim's skin color.

A black kid I went to school with tripped one of our classmates in the 4th grade. I'm only bringing that up because he most assuredly would have been given the death penalty by the wishy-washy "standards" of who and to what degree a person is guilty of a crime based on their melanin levels.

Bail is worthless unless you have something to lose. When Harris paid the rioter’s bail they had nothing to lose.

    Insurrection?
Around 600 people have been charged -- how any for insurrection?

There's nothing "crazy" about self defense. It's pretty common. Rittenhouse will be acquitted. See George Zimmerman for another example.

So which 'victim' of Rittenhouse was black? Before pulling the melanin card, might want to consider this.

Don’t think you understand what bail is if you believe that.
