Obstructing an official hearing, no insurrection charges.

And 8 months is insane when compared to the blm and antifa riots, looting and arson.

2/3 of a year in prison for simple trespassing is no slap on the wrist. When BLM flashmobs loot a Target or a Walgreens or Walmart or a Best Buy or any of the hundreds of locations they hit, the feds don't spend a single second to help identify those criminals. Yet in this instance they tapped phones, they pulled bank records, they used spy satellites and drones, they dumped millions of photographs into facial recognition software powered by partnerships with social media, they sent thousands of agents into the field, and God knows what else all to make sure that every last person that so much as bent a blade of grass during that that protest can be identified, harassed, charged, and convicted.

Almost like the seat of the legislative branch of the US government in attempting to stop the most important democratic function they oversee is more concerning than a… Walgreens…

So the Federal government is uninterested in defending the public square of our towns and cities. It was confirmed last summer, but good to know. So, to answer President Biden on whether democracy works: It doesn't. Citizens cannot be protected by the government which they theoretically employ, if that's not failure then what is?

    Why does it matter?

The fact that the courts don't convict them of insurrection makes the Capitol rioters more patriotic to you?

I know it's unbearable for you that Trump is no longer around to pardon them.

You'll have to get used to it, there are still over 500 great patriots to throw in a cell.

Way too lenient for a seditious insurrectionist.

Those Walmart locations are under state jurisdiction, not federal.

The states signed a bound compact(US VS Texas) that so enabled the federal government. Or at least, that's the power appropriated to them. Yet with the example @apexofpurple gives us, it shows a clear distinction: Our public spaces are less of a US interest, then that of the Capitol. Are we second-hand citizens to politicians in Washington?

That again, to me is a signal of failure.

Obviously I'm not the only one who DOES NOT consider the riot an "insurrection".

With the amount of times the left says there was an insurrection you’d think someone would be convicted of it. No conviction, no insurrection, just a mostly peaceful protest.

I don't think he got off lite. He was sentenced to 8 months and fined $2000 and faces 2 years of supervised release. In his own words he will probably lose his job and apprenticeship and thereby potentially ruining his career. He is only 38 years old and this action probably will totally change his life. He did not assault anyone or damage any property.

You know, regarding whataboutsims, we could really use your help in when the left tries to derail every thread with Trump or 1/6. Can I count on you?

This guy’s lawyer should have insisted that he be tried in Portland by a Portland prosecutor and heard by a Portland judge.

thousands and thousands are sentenced to a much longer time for doing much less of a crime..

nobody is defending the antifa and BLM riots

    but here is the question

if the BLM-antifa gang had stormed the capitol ,

then took photos of themselves carrying a black panther flag and sitting at Matt Gaetz's desk

lets say they posted videos of themselves doing these things on facebook

what would the proper sentence be for them??

I'm pretty sure that Officer Michael Fanone, who begged a hundred rioters not to kill him because he had children, disagrees with you.

I have no idea what you are referring to, but the fact that the riots in the cities last year were out of federal jurisdiction. The gov of the state has to request for federal assistance, the feds cannot act on their own.

These jurisdictional boundaries are clearly defined.
