NATO isn't the EU, or the African Union, or even the United States. NATO is an explicit military alliance. Joining a military alliance is irrelevant to the concept of soveriegnty. In fact, constant statements and action toward joining a military alliance, especially if the rival of that alliance borders you, is of itself an aggressive act.

If it comes down to the lesser of two evils, Eliminating Putin is the far greater evil. Just about every Russian is questioning this war. Any changes must come from within.
