While TV shows have popularized catfishing as a Police evidence manufacturing device, I believe catfishing is on par with civil asset forfeiture in morality. I find it problematic that Police would catfish in an age 18 and above chat room. There are actually children actually getting abused sexually and otherwise in person and it has nothing to do with an online chat rooms. Imo, catfishing in law enforcement is a waste of time and money, puts people in prison who haven't done anything and likely wouldn't do anything except have an illegal imagination and expressed fantasy. And that's what happened. Scott Ritter was placed in prison for privately expressing a fantasy with another person.

Sorry, that makes Pennsylvania look worse than Scott Ritter.

However, Scott Ritter, knowing he was being publicly scrutinized, showed a complete lack of wisdom in doing what he did.

Clearly, Ritter needs money and will likely say what he needs to to provide money for himself and his family. So, anything he says can only be based on the strength of his argument alone as any "expertise" he has are likely bought and paid for.

 

We disagree about law enforcement tactics in this case.

He got busted, got a fine, then after he got out got busted again and quite rightly went to jail. So not only is he a pervert, but a stupid one.

The guy has a thing for undeage girls. If it was just some sort of fantasy he could have found someone he KNEW was an adult to play it out, but no, he wanted to an actual underage girl. Fortunately he didn't act on his impulses in person, but I'd rather law enforcement stop such people before they excalate to that.
