Trump Appeals Order That Requires Pence To Testify In DOJ Jan 6 Probe

Donald Trump is appealing a federal judge’s ruling that would require former Vice President Mike Pence to testify in special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

Last month, D.C. Chief Judge James Boasberg shut down Trump’s argument that Pence shouldn’t have to testify in Smith’s investigation on the grounds of executive privilege. Boasberg ordered Pence to testify to the grand jury about any relevant conversations between him and Trump leading up to the insurrection, emphasizing he is not immune from testifying on alleged illegal actions by the former president.

Now, Trump has appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit to try and reverse that ruling, according to a docket entry visible Monday and sources that spoke to outlets including Bloomberg and CNN about the sealed proceedings.

Because.....of course he is, even though Mike has agreed to testify. Don is once again employing the strategy he always uses, delay.

Trump Lawyer Says We Should Expect Motion To Dismiss In Bragg Case

Former President Donald Trump’s attorney Jim Trusty said on Sunday he expects the Trump legal team to seek a motion to dismiss the historic New York City indictment over the $130,000 hush money payment made to porn actress Stormy Daniels.

“I think there’s going to be some very well-placed motions to dismiss based on the legal frailties of this kind of mental gymnastics indictment that [Manhattan District Attorney] Alvin Bragg is trying to piece together,” Trusty said in an ABC News “This Week” interview.

When asked by anchor Jonathan Karl if there will also be motions to request a change of venue — following Trump’s claims on Truth Social that the Republican-leaning borough of Staten Island would be a “very fair and secure location for the trial” — Trusty said a motion to dismiss the case takes priority.

“I think the motions to dismiss have to be a priority because they amputate this miscarriage of justice early on,” Trusty said.

    And......................we're off.

Trump lawyer seeks monthlong delay in trial over rape claim

NEW YORK (AP) — An attorney for Donald Trump is seeking a one-month delay in the trial regarding a columnist’s claims that Trump raped her in a department store dressing room in the 1990s, contending that his client’s right to a fair trial depends on a “cooling off” period following the former president’s indictment and arraignment.

The trial was set for April 25. In a letter Tuesday to Judge Lewis A. Kaplan, attorney Joseph Tacopina cited “the recent deluge of prejudicial media coverage” surrounding Trump’s arrest and court appearance in arguing for a delay. The former president was charged March 30 with 34 felony counts related to allegations that he paid hush money to an adult film star, Stormy Daniels.

The civil case before Kaplan was brought against Trump in November by E. Jean Carroll, a columnist who says the wealthy real estate developer raped her in early 1996 after a chance meeting at the Bergdorf Goodman department store.

As always Don is trying to slow the process of the unraveling.

WASHINGTON, April 12 (Reuters) - Multiple witnesses were asked whether former President Donald Trump showed them a map containing classified information that he took from the White House when he left office, as part of a U.S. Justice Department investigation, the New York Times reported on Wednesday.

It is unclear what the map depicted beyond "sensitive intelligence information," the Times reported, citing four people familiar with the matter.

Jack Smith Barrels Toward An Epic Confrontation With Donald Trump

Over the past several days, the full scope, scale and speed of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigations of Donald Trump have come more fully into focus. The daily drip of accounts from witnesses, defense lawyers, and others almost certainly not associated with the government provides a somewhat skewed but still clarifying view into the legal jeopardy the former president faces at the federal level.

    A few takeaways:

    • Speed: Smith is moving as fast as the legal system will allow and doesn’t appear encumbered by lack of resources or institutional support. We don’t know exactly how many grand juries he’s overseeing in DC, but, as was reaffirmed yesterday by the WaPo, at least two of them “are meeting every week about Trump and his advisers on multiple fronts.” Trump and others are putting up various fights over executive privilege, attorney-client privilege, and the Speech or Debate Clause, which must be litigated and that necessarily takes time. But the courts are moving quickly (for them), allowing Smith to speed those arguments through the appeals process, where for the most part he keeps winning. The clock is ticking, though, with a pressing need to make charging decisions before the 2024 campaign season is in full swing.
    • Scope: The most self-contained probe involves the Mar-a-Lago documents case. The Jan. 6 probe is much more wide-ranging (more on that in a moment). But the thoroughness and aggressiveness with which Smith picked up from the original DOJ components handling these cases suggests a clear understanding of the stakes, the risks, and the historic significance of what is unfolding.
    • Scale: The Jan. 6 investigations of the higher ups, especially when coupled with the hundreds of criminal prosecutions of the rioters, which the Justice Department has already called the biggest probe in its history, appears to be as sweeping and all-encompassing as it deserves. We still don’t know the exact contours of this probe, but it ranges from the fake electors scheme, to the financing of the Jan. 6 rallies, to the bogus fundraising the Trump campaign was doing off the Big Lie, to the connections between Trump World and the leading edge of the provocateurs at the Capitol. In other words, the investigation seems to rise to the historic moment.

Federal judge slaps down another bid to delay E. Jean Carroll’s civil rape trial, but Trump still isn’t done trying

Donald Trump lost another attempt to delay trial in author E. Jean Carroll’s lawsuit accusing him of rape, but the former president hasn’t stopped trying to keep the jury at bay.
    https://lawandcrime.com/live-trials...-rape-trial-but-trump-still-isnt-done-trying/

It seems like these attempts to delay the trial are habitual more than strategic. What do they really accomplish?

National security officials tell special counsel Trump was repeatedly warned he did not have the authority to seize voting machines

Former top national security officials have told prosecutors and testified to a federal grand jury that they repeatedly told former President Donald Trump and his allies that the government didn’t have the authority to seize voting machines after the 2020 election, CNN has learned.

Ken Cuccinelli, the former second in command at the Department of Homeland Security, was asked about discussions inside the administration around DHS seizing voting machines when he appeared before the grand jury earlier this year, according to three people familiar with the proceedings. Cuccinelli testified that he “made clear at all times” that DHS did not have the authority to take such a step, one of the sources said.

When his lawyers/advisors give him advice he doesn't want to hear they risk being fired.

Trump lawyer recuses himself from classified documents case: report

Evan Corcoran, a key member of former President Trump’s legal team, has recused himself from the investigation into Trump’s handling of classified documents after he was questioned by a grand jury last month, according to The Washington Post.

Trump is under investigation by Special Counsel Jack Smith over allegations that he intentionally mishandled classified documents during and after he left office, including storing documents at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida and hiding them from federal investigators.

    https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-brie...imself-from-classified-documents-case-report/

It's my understanding that legal ethics rules generally bar lawyers from acting as advocates at trial when they are likely to be essential witnesses. Meaning it's possible Corcoran will testify Trump obstructed justice when he refused to comply with a subpoena for all the classified docs in his possession.

Scrambling away not out a voluntary sense of an obligation to the country or the law but by virtue of having no choice. As always Trumpleton's must be forced to do the right thing. No doubt something that is disconcerting to Dear Leader.

I think you're too hard on Trump. I'm not sure he even knows what the right thing is. Rape, Bribery, Tax evasion, Misogamy, Falsification, Theft.
These indicators are not generally associated with someone who knows the right thing.

Appeals court temporarily blocks House subpoena for ex-Manhattan prosecutor in Trump indictment

A federal appeals court on Thursday temporarily blocked a subpoena issued by the House Judiciary Committee for testimony from a former Manhattan prosecutor who was involved in a criminal investigation of ex-President Donald Trump.

The order by the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in New York came just hours before the former prosecutor, Mark Pomerantz, had been directed by a federal judge to sit for a deposition with the committee.

MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell ordered to pay $5 million to 2020 election fraud data debunker

An arbitration panel ordered MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell to pay $5 million within 30 days to a Nevada software developer for proving Lindell was wrong in his claim that certain data was related to the 2020 presidential election and purported voting machine fraud.

The panel, in its 23-page ruling issued Wednesday, said that the Robert Zeidman “proved the data Lindell LLC provided, and represented reflected information from the November 2020 election, unequivocally did not reflect November 2020 election data.” Zeidman, a software developer, entered the “Prove Mike Wrong Challenge” contest in during a cyber symposium in August 2021.

The American Arbitration Association panel, which held a three-day hearing in January in the case, also said that the Lindell LLC’s “failure to pay Mr. Zeidman the $5 million” offered as the stated prize of the contest “was a breach of the contract, entitling him to recover.”

GOP senator criticizes Fox News interviews with Trump

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has not been pleased with a number of interviews Fox News hosts and pundits have conducted with former President Trump in recent weeks.

“In recent weeks I’ve watched 3hrs of FOX interviews of Trump All I hear is history,” Grassley tweeted on Sunday night. “Why hv hannity tucker and levin never asked him abt future WHAT TRUMP WANTS TO ACCOMPLISH IN HIS NEXT TERM. Elections are abt the future not the past.”

Poor Chuck, he still has stardust in his eyes. Yearning for the days when Faux would lob softballs to Dear Leader and nod approvingly at the answers. You know, before he became a full out traitor on 1/6.

Trump Was At A Meeting Where Loyalists Discussed Plans To Break Into Voting Machines

You’ll remember that, in the waning days of the Trump presidency, a crew of conspiracy-theorizing loyalists pushed the president to use the federal government to seize voting machines and investigate his bogus claims of fraud.

Those plans never became reality, but Trump supporters did take matters into their own hands, breaching voting machines in locations around the country to try to substantiate Trump’s big lie.

Here’s what’s new: It turns out Trump was at a meeting where those nascent, unlawful efforts were also discussed — back in December 2020. Trump was present as allies discussed a plot to unlawfully access voting machine software in Michigan and Georgia, according to testimony heard by the Jan. 6 committee.

    https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/...discussed-plans-to-break-into-voting-machines

For context...........imagine it was Biden who attended a meeting to discuss voting machines being seized with lackeys who thought it was a good idea. Got it?

Bannon associate Brian Kolfage sentenced to more than four years for Trump border wall fraud
    Source: The Independent

"Steve Bannon associate Brian Kolfage has been sentenced to more than four years in prison for his role in defrauding donors to help privately build Donald Trump’s southern border wall.

Kolfage, a US Air Force veteran who lost his legs and right hand in a rocket attack in Iraq, pleaded guilty last year to misappropriating more than $350,000 from the “We Build the Wall” campaign.

The 41-year-old was sentenced to 51 months in prison at a hearing in federal court in Manhattan on Wednesday.

Prosecutors said that he spent the money on cosmetic surgery, boat payments and jewellery. In addition, he also pleaded guilty to tax charges".

Last I read was that his lawyer on this case was suing him and iirc: also wanted off the case.
Was this the case where Trump pardoned him but then the state stepped in with charges?
It's so damn hard to keep up on all these players.
