Do you support a book being available to minors that the most disturbing topics discuss the seminal emissions of animals, genocide, rape and murder? Now, do you support a book being available that the most disturbing topic is lesbian moms? Or a book on gay penguins adopting an abandoned chick?
Really, what's the beef here? The internet can and will supply everything and anything once the child is ambidextrous or vocal enough to type in or speak to a search engine! Why waste valuable learning time pushing bullshit that will be overwritten once the child's curiosity takes him or her to the realm of CYBER OZ! Bickering over nonsense and arguing reality and the inevitable ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You think? Liberals ban any dogma that is not their own. Their religion is liberalism. Nothing can interfere. And I'm just as much of an atheist as they are. If they say that male and female are a figment of your imagination and you don't accept that, you are eradicated from the Earth.
BTW, you're wrong. I actually think banning books is very serious but sometimes it takes a troll move like this to highlight the absurdity of such an action. That way people realize what it's like when the tables are turned on them.
Well you just made my point. This was a troll. And since you are ecstatic that the Bible is now verboten in that elementary school, no; you're not serious about banning books, only making sure the right books are banned.
I don't know why some on the Internet demand that we answer their questions. From the very beginning, when a poster quoted my post, I decided people who use strawman fallacy instead of actually addressing the written words on the screen aren't really interested in what I have to say. They'd rather try to tell me what I think, insulting me, or bounce off on another tangent to listen to themselves talk. So, right then and there and at that very moment, I decide they don't deserve anything else from me. I got my principles to behold. Now getting to what you posted. I don't know what the beef is here. Kids are going to learn about all this stuff soon enough unless their parents block their children from certain websites on the home computer. They can also block some of this on the child's phone, or better yet, don't give their kid a phone connected to the Internet until they are more mature. The LBQT issue doesn't have to be pushed to grade school kids. Parents should have the final say. I don't care who doesn't agree with me either.
I told you I don't want any books banned and I meant it. The point is most of the book banners claim to be "Christians". They don't ever seem to think of the effect on people who's books they ban (seriously Heather has Two Mommies?) because they are on a power trip and think they have a perfect right to control everybody else's lives. This teaches them and maybe some who support them without really thinking things through what it's like to be on the receiving end. Hopefully the absurdity of actions such as these which are equally matched by the absurd and hubristic nature of their original actions will make them think again about trying to control the rest of us. If that comes at a temporary cost, then so be it. As I said a couple of years back: Kumbaya is over. I wasn't joking then and I'm not joking now.
You're an adult, I presume. Who is trying to control you? You are free to think how you will, but here's the thing, you cannot force this on the parents of young children without expecting a HUGE rebuttal. Odd that you chose to use the word, control when it's your side who is trying to control the parenting decisions of others.
Isn't that what your side does with any LGBTQ, CRT, or any other book you deem as "inappropriate" for Children? Why do you think Florida passed HB7 and HB 1557 then? DeSantis pretty much does this anytime he is confronted with why ban this book that has nothing to do with explicit sexual issues.
I would say with some Christians, but considering most of the books in the Bible are allegorical in nature, I would say that your statement is not entirely accurate either. Yes, in the Book of Joshua they were ordered to kill those that occupy their homeland, which is now present Day Israel, West Bank, Gaza Strip, and parts of Lebenon and Syria. But then you have the book of Job, which is very similar to the Story of Gilgamesh.
Nobody is forcing anybody. Since these people are in the minority, why not work on a permission slip basis where it's assumed that kids can read/borrow books (as they always used to be able to do - this banning is all a new thing) but be able to have your kids opted out if you don't want them to have access. That would be easy to arrange at most school and local libraries and far easier to navigate than having to worry about which books might offend which person. You do realize that that "huge rebuttal" thing might just about to start becoming a two-way street. Certain actions and recent court cases seem to indicate this is coming. I wish it wasn't necessary. I never started going around telling other parents what books their kids can and can't read. Let them choose on an individual basis instead of stymying everybody else's education.
that is called the Septuagint. the Catholics still use that part of the Bible, and the Eastern Orthodox churches have theres. In Alexandria, Egypt, you have the Coptic Bible, which as two more books than the traditional Bible that most Westerners know. Those two additional books are the Gospel of St. Thomas and the Gospel of Barabas. And the Bible is used by Coptic Christians in Egypt. thank god, pun intended for the Dead Sea Scrolls.
A long winded way of saying facts show too much cognitive dissonance so it’s best ignored. How expected
You oppose book banning, except when you are trying to make a point that you oppose book banning, so then you favor banning books? Heh.
So you don't think any material is "inappropriate" for children. We don't really have a common basis to even have a discussion.
Anything sexually explicit should be restricted to those who may not understand the concept of sex in school or public libraries. In another thread, I made that argument abundantly clear. But if a book at a school library is about two penguins and an egg, how should that be banned? But conservatives are on a culture war in which anything and everything they don't approve of is being banned or restricted that are not based on logical arguments, but illogical political arguments And that is a very slippery slope.
Its not liberals who are doing all the book-banning. This is an example of where stupid laws / govt overreach always have unintended consequences.
inappropriate material should not be banned. They are going to see it anyway outside of school. Teachers and parents should say “this is inappropriate” if they think it is, but should not remove access to the material, whether it is the Bible or pornography. If it is something they want to see, they’ll just find it on the internet anyway. The more important message that we should be expressing is that censorship is the ultimate evil, as it is controlling the thoughts of others. That is worse than pornography, mein kampf, the Bible, or LGBTQ etc books.
