You think that it's irrelevant that people think the Bible is fact? That it is the actual word of a god given to man. You think it's irrelevant that that belief, for good or (mostly) bad has been the driving force of civilization for centuries!!

Actually, I think this is a good move. I also support the other books being banned from schools. No ill done here in my opinion.

It is funny, but it’s not ridiculous. The Bible includes a lot of genocide and rape in it without condemnation, and in some cases, God himself is committing horrible acts of genocide. The ugly continent of the Bible doesn’t really register with Christians.

 

Everything you said could be debated. Ancient paganism has influenced a lot of modern Christianity, which is humeroys, and western society. And as far as the United States of America goes, the industrial age and enlightenment era thinking, not the Bible, deeply influenced the concepts in the constitution and created the concept of markets and capitalism.

 

The entire Bible is edited and approved for our reading. There’s a ton of texts that have been censored and not included in the Bible because it didn’t fit in with how medieval church leaders wanted society to be controlled.

That's true. Many of the Books about Jesus were removed from the New Testament in the medieval period because of the bad light regarding Jesus's early years such as murdering his friend

 

Elementary school aged children aren't going to read the Bible because of the way it is written. No ban needed. I didn't read it until I was well into adult age - didn't even bother to read the whole New Testament because it was so boring and repetitive. I was more interested in comparative religions.

It is ridiculous in that we would also have to ban books like Jack and The Beanstalk and other fairy tales if we are worried about the violence.

In some translations "have made themseves eunuchs" is presented as live like eunuchs as if it was no sex that was being advocated. Of course anyone know early Christian history knows that self castration was a serious problem in the warly days of the church.

Same goes for most other books which have been banned recently. Many books have been banned for no apparent reason, so it seems the banners are banning books just in case, because failing to ban can get them fired.

Well I simply disagree that you are trying to have a serious conversation. The OP, in his very first post, clearly seemed to feel this was a troll attack that he was supporting. Frankly I'm surprised that an elementary school would have the Bible anyway, but since this pretty obviously a troll, I've treated the topic will all the seriousness that it deserves, which is almost none.

So ha ha, you showed those uptight religious Utah parents who are "concerned" about their children by taking away that Bible you hate so much. Mission accomplished.

 

There are both valid and invalid reasons for why parents of very young children seek to have books banned in school libraries.
I'm surprised that you think their reasonings for book bannings are for no apparent reasons.

I think the parent who got the Bible banned did so out of protest because she doesn't think it's "fair" that any books are banned from school libraries. IOW, she did it for spite.

Parents do not screen books. They are screened by licensed people (“certified media specialists”), who have to screen millions of books, and risk losing their jobs (or face charges) if they miss something. So, if they see something which they think MIGHT qualify for banning, they ban it just in case.
