Americans are always in a hurry. The he idea of having to stop for 20 to 40 minutes to charge a battery to 80% is ludicrous. Depending on where you live, only high wealth upper middle class people in temperate locations that experience positive reactions virtue signaling, are the likely customer base. If your neighbors make fun of you, are you still cool?
While I am enjoy the scenery as I drive, EV drivers look forward to sweaty palms looking for a level 2 or 3 charging station that works.
Apartment dwellers? That is another can of worms for another thread.

The recognition by Ford etal that the math for EV's just doesn't add up at this time How much more will it cost to build a parking garage or an apartment building if every associated parking place have to double as a charging station? Amd then there is the maintenance cost.

How long is your commute? 30-40-50 miles? What's the problem charging the car while 8 hours at work?
Do Americans need pickup trucks unless they are farmers of construction workers? Why not buy a normal, much smaller car that needs smaller battery and has much better millage (due to half the weight)?
People usually sleep at night. What's the problem for the car to be charged at the garage during that time?
If you go on a vacation far away, just rent a bigger ICE car.
    There. :)

Zero I'm retired I drive a thirty year old oldsmobile. Many of the people I worked with over the years commuted over 100 miles round trip every day, It is interesting only the rich seem interested in EVs Both the Porsche and Mercedes EV's seem to be selling decently the lower end ones not so much That's according to my son in law and daughter who work for a local dealership that sells both locally.

    Nonsense.

The EV discussion is so politically motivated.

I am a conservative and I own a Tesla Model Y LR that I absolutely love.

It shares a garage with gasoline 2 BMWs and a diesel 3500HD truck. They all have their benefits and issues. I don't expect my BMW 850i to pull my camper, just like the Tesla isn't the best option for a cross country trip.

However the Tesla does far surpass the other vehicles in terms of local and regional travel of 250 miles before a needed 30 minute charge.

I can't get my head around why some people are so vehemently opposed the idea of EVs. If it doesn't work for you, then don't buy one. On the daily, for me it's fantastic.

How much do you think went into constructing oil fields, refineries, pipelines, fueling stations and what is the cost of maintaining all that infrastructure?

They are still premium due to developing and refined technology. We are starting to see prices come down.

Much like everything else, there is a premium cost for consumer goods that have lower long term savings.

EVs are substantially cheaper to operate over their service life, but you pay a higher premium at the onset which puts them out of reach for lower and lower-middle class.

It's much of the same principals of economics that allows the rich to get wealthier faster and the poor to growth wealth much slower.

If you live in a city or don't have to commute very far, I'm sure that an EV will suit you just fine. However, for the majority of people in the United States, that isn't an option. We have trucks, horse trailers, stock trailers, campers, boats, RV's and other assorted toys we like to haul around. And there isn't a single EV that will do that, much less having to pull over 20 times to recharge to get wherever you are going...

About the same but I don't need a gas pump in every parking garage. And there is vastly more oil than there is lithium and other rare earths.

The are two reason the prices are coming down, The government subsidizes the hell out of them and the ford et al are losing money on every sale. That buy the way is the reason they are cutting back on production. They have to stop the bleeding before they bleed out.

Why can't you rent a truck to pull your boat when you need to? After all, with the money that you will spare not buying your own truck, you can rent truck for years. And you will have extra free space in the garage. :)
Well, if you tow your boat every weekend, that's another story.

EVs are easy to operate, noiseless, pollution free, don't need oil change and fun to drive.
And as I said, 100 miles commute is no problem for most of them.

Remember "cash for clunkers"? Why shouldn't EV be subsidized when normal cars were?

And let's not forget the hordes of crackheads who will be cutting off EV charging station cables to sell for the copper inside. It's already happened in the U.K.

Because cash or clunkers was a disaster driving the cost of used cars through the roof.

early ICE cars had issues too, early adopters will help those issues be resolved before the mainstream buys them

Good, now we have EVs and the cost won't go trough the roof because people would start buying subsidized new EVs. ;)

And they aren't pollution free the just relocate where the pollution is. The only cost efficient way to remove the lithium is strip mining. And the making of the batteries is every bit as polluting as refining if not more. And of course the supply of lithium simply isn't sufficient to replace America's ice vehicles let alone those of every other country in the world and their likely aren't enough noble metals to supply all the necessary wiring to build all those charging stations

The Democrat Party leadership does not want to allow you to have the right to buy anything but a EV. California, which always ahead of the curve in “reform,” is calling for a ban on anything but EVs by 2035.

If we relied on conservatives' opinions about progress, we would still be driving Model Ts and using outhouses.

You couldn’t pay me to own an electric vehicle. I’ll keep my gas run pickup truck. And with it being a Toyota it will likely last me at least another 10 years if not longer.

Most people don't buy single use (ie- commuting only cars) vehicles. EVs have a substantial flaw- they suck when doing work.

That's why I drive a F150. Does everything I need it for, including driving to work.

And that's the simple reason the leftist government is forcing EVs on us. Most people don't want one.

I imagine you'll change your mind when the government eliminates those BMWs and that pickup.

The big error and continuing mistaken thought is trying to replace the current trend in personal transportation entirely with batteries and electric motors.
Electric Vehicle does not have to mean two tons with 500 hp.
There will be places and good reasons to use efficient i.c.e.s for quite a while.
For a tremendous percentage of getting around, a fun-loving little electric bicycle, tricycle or small motorcycle, vehicles that could in some cases carry three, would be more that sufficient. That would be do-able.

If we relied on liberals opinions about progress, we'd be trying to exist on moonbeams and butterfly flatulence and jumping off buildings on government assurances we can fly if we only believe we can.
