Well, I don't believe we should stop what were doing because some people don't like us. In fact, I think that if there are people that don't like us, we are probably doing somthing right.

Its certainly unfortunate, but when will the Vietnamese appologise to the people of Laos for using their country as a supply route for the war in Vietnam. Did you expect the US to allow north Vietnam to smuggle supplies and soldiers thru Laos ?

No that doesn't surprise me. It will only surprise individual Australian tourists who run into me. In the meantime I will shape opinion in my little circle like a stone creating a series of small waves as it is cast into a pond.

Right, but there is no escaping the fact that N.Vietnam used Laos, knowingly or not, to supply its attacks on the south. I believe that if generals were allowed to run the war, there would not have been a trail to supply N.Vietnamese troops. But as you said, we were not at war with Laos. Which is what the politicians said. Which is also why we were not able to defeat the North. Politicians should not be allowed to run a war. A politicians place is at the bargaining table before and after a war. If we have to go to war than the politicians have failed. Let the military do its job.

What a ridiculous, vindictive, grossly anti-American statement:

'you've made a mess of the middle east - now you want to mess up our region'.

The mess in the ME has been due to those who inhabit that region who have allowed thugs and tyrants to run rampant for decades. Israel, whilst not perfect, is a beacon of shining Democracy in the whole region. Let's hope the new rulers, whoever they maybe, follow in its Democratic footsteps and don't replace one set of tryants with another.

I wish them well in their endeavors to install Democrary in that region. But I am not sure that the signs, in Egypt especially, are very encouraging.

Does the fact that the US Military continues to use torture define you as a people?

We should not allow torturers in out country. The days of John Howard when the Australian Government turned a blind eye to American war crimes I hope are over.

We should not allow criminal organisations on our soil.

People don't like the USA because the USA tortures prisoners (among other things).

Is committing war crimes what you call "doing somthing right"?

Name one country which in wartime didn't torture prisoners to some degree.

Heaps. How about Jacobo Arbenz's Guatemala, when the US was attacking it.

Name one country that has had a program of extraordinary rendition of prisoners for many years and maintains a concentration camp in Cuba where it illegally imprisons people and carries out torture. Not in "wartime".

    I know one.

And we don't want this criminal organisation in Australia.

the US's involvement int he ME since at least the 50's has been a major factor contributing to the geopolitics of the region.

    this is history.

also - in our region the US is not eactly squeaky clean.

Indonesia tends to look askance at the US - as do a number of other nations in SEA.

thats a good adage to remember.

I know americans tend to think it doesn't apply to them, though.

but the simple fact is it is true - you engage in a more confrontationist approach.

So you condone terrorism. How pathetic. But I'm not the least bit surprised given who you support for President.

    Nope, the US does.

    What is?

Surprised about what? I dont condone terrorism, so you are attacking a strawman as per usual.

pointing out that 9/11 was a backlash against US policies in the middle east (as ye sow, so shall ye reap) is hardly condoning terrorism.

You forgot that these people are not sane enough to think such reality through - to them you 'are either with us or with the terrorists.'
