Obama turned down at PROMINENT NY golf courses over weekend...

/S There was this teacher who every Friday, would quiz her class with a test. The child who got the answer right would get to go home for the day and not come back until Monday. So Friday came and her question went up on the board, How many stars are there in the sky? Of course, no child could guess it and no one got to go home. The following Friday, the teacher places the new question of the day on the board, How many grains of sand are there in the world? Of course, no child was able to answer it. So, Johnny got smart; he went home and got a paper bag, two ping pong balls, and black spray paint. He does a quick fix up with these items and heads off to school on a fine Friday morning. The teacher is about to give the question of the day when from the back of the classroom, two black balls roll to the front of the classroom. The children start giggling. Struck with amazement the teacher asks, "All right, who's the idiot with the black balls?" Johnny stands up and says, "Obama! See you Monday!"

 

I don't know that "powerful righties" stopped (as they never have before). I was under the impression that the golf course itself made a business decision not to shut down and lose all that business just to accommodate Obama.

 

In spite of your obviously partisan post, I'll keep the politics out of it and just say that all three golg/country clubs are privately owned and have an unfettered right on whom they allow on the grounds, whether its to play golf, tennis, swim or eat in their dinning rooms,

Post note, I caddied years ago at winged foot and its a lousy course, don't even know why the President would want to play golf there. Not sure about the other two tho'.

 

Okay, even better, let's try it your way.

Obama might not be playing golf right now...but he wants to!...and the golf course lost money when he did anyway.

So really the only criticism I see you have is that Obama wants to play golf.

Obama is toasty, and obviously burnt out. He seems to be pouting because the world didn't change because of his inspirational speeches. And when righties used to accuse lefties of worshipping Obama as a messiah, I always balked, because I don't believe that was true, but I'm thinking Obama may have hung his hat on the naive notion that he was a messiah. He hadn't counted on the right responding to "yes we can", with "even if we could, we won't"

 

I'm sorry you're so obsessed with race. For the rest of us however it really isn't that big of a deal.

 

I'm not criticizing Obama in this instance. Golf courses have decided it isn't worth it to cater to the president and that's their decision.

 

It's a damn good point. It would sure as hell inconvenience me, knowing that the worst President in U.S. history, and a boldface liar/criminal was playing on the same gold course as I.
But that aside, it actually would be a legitimate inconvenience to the average Joe. Obama, with his millions, would hog the entire course to himself just to hit a couple golf balls.
True, a lot more money would've been made for the golf course due to Obama's elite status, but where's the morals? The customer always comes first! Greed didn't take over, and THAT is refreshing to see.

Labor Day Weekend is a big day for golfers and a profitable one for the courses. President Obama should have realized that and he should not want to hurt businesses just for a golf game. That said, it never hurts to ask and hopefully PResident Obama was gracious about the whole deal..

 

Or perhaps they just don't want Obama there because he's a lousy President and they don't consider it an honor to host him and have to listen to all his jive and be told how luckly they are to have him there and be put out by his presence and have their members who don't like him as President have to be put out by him. Let go play at Camp David.

One would be PATENTLY NAIVE not to ask that question even in 2014. Some country clubs have RESTRICTED membership still. And they don't even have it in
their bylaws. There is no more proof that my country is NOT COLORBLIND than by logging onto this political board each day. Don't think that the protestations on this thread fool anyone.

There is nothing in any law that requires a country club to host an unpopular president of to inconvenience members. I was on Governors island in the 80's when NYC planned to have a big blast over the State of Liberty. The island at the time was a Coast Guard base. President Reagan was to host the event from the island.His security folk arrived and then had the temerity to demand that all the CG families in the high rise housing facing the review stand abandon their homes for the event. Reagan, to his credit, over ruled the Secret Service and let folk stay in their homes. Just because the President wants to play golf does not trump everyone else's right to use their own club.

 

There are Tea Partiers that are racists. I know some of them. And there are Democrats that are racists too. You're no better than the people who accuse all Tea Partiers of being racists when you say The Democratic Party are racists.

 

You just can't resist playing the race card.... over and over and over. Give us a break! ..... really gets boring after awhile......

For the owners of the golf courses to say 'thanks, but no thanks' to Obama is their right and it's a smart decision. It's a headache for business owners when any president shows up, having to deal w/ss, the motorcade, snarled traffic jams, businesses are shut down and lose $$$..... and they're placing their regular customers first, which is a smart business move......

I'm sure Obama will find another golf course to play on..... if he can't, then he can go back to the WH and do some work..........

 

Instead of blowing up a blood vessel over your idol being refused access to golf courses, why don't you stop and think that they do have a right to say "NO" b/c of the headache and hassle involved w/a POTUS showing up.......

Gee you ever think the golf courses don't want to irritate their high paying customers by telling them they cant play because Obama is there? Seems like a very bad business decision to me. Hasn't he played enough golf anyways at this point? Maybe other people would like to play golf as well.
If he didn't have a foreign policy setup yet to handle ISIL then WTF was he out playing golf for before he did? Some President you voted for there. Its as if he has no clue as to what a President is supposed to do. Obviously.

 

These clubs don't strike me as open courses. They seem to be country clubs, and country clubs are not usually public and use annual membership fees that are already paid. I don't see how they'd lose business.

 

Ring the bell. Pardy is right. And, the club's paid members would not have been playing while the King and his courtiers were on the course.
