The funny thing is that Hillary never thought she had to campaign in rural America. And no. Putin didn't hack her calendar and erase rural campaign stops.

People who live in big cities because they don't know how to take care of themselves shouldn't be the only voices in the country. When did you find out about the electoral college?

So based on this theory. The only way to win president will be to cater to the urban vote. That means only about 20 cities nationwide actually matter.

The violent left wants popular vote because they own the urban centers. The right hates it because they own suburban and rural areas. I hate it because it means 98% of the country is meaningless and makes it far easier to pull off an election changing voter fraud scheme.

A better idea is to scrap the current electoral college and put in a new system where all states divide their 'House' electoral votes proportionally and 'Senate' votes go to the candidate that wins the state popular vote.

Smaller states are still ignored. Nobody is running fierce presidential campaigns in Montana. The electoral college has the effect of making sure only swing states matter. If you don't live in a swing state, your vote is essentially worthless in presidential elections. And if you live in a solid red or blue state and vote for the minority party in that state, your vote literally never counts. Some system.

That is the whole point... State sovereignty would be washed away.

Then liberals wouldn't have to go to states like New Hampshire, where they have made claims that they were going to be moving there to be able to vote, and then never actually move into the state.

You really believe this statement ??? The Republican internal polling showed otherwise and Hillary was able to cancel her fireworks display in Philadelphia a full three days in advance.

Do you know how swing states become swing states?

    Because people campaign in them.

Arizona is now becoming a swing state.

    Know why?

And here's the thing, turn a couple of the smaller states in your favor and your electoral count goes up.

That is precisely how Trump won because Hillary only focused on the populated areas, she didn't care about rural America at all, she flew over it in her jet from NY to LA.

    Trump took the bus.

Really? So you think if Democratic presidential candidates campaigned more in Mississippi it would become a swing state? And if Republican presidential candidates campaigned in California, California would become a swing state too? I don't think so. You've reversed cause and effect.

Campaigns target states that are already swing states, which is affected by local culture, demographics, local political climates, urbanization, and other factors. Simply campaigning more in a state doesn't convert it to a swing state. Clinton's mistake was failing to recognize that PA, WI, and MI were not as solid blue as she thought they were.

OK Mr. brilliant, why don't you inform the forum how a state becomes a swing state, mind you that in the next election they are predicting at least 12 swing states.

So go ahead, I can't wait to be educated by you.

    I already alluded to that...

Some more specific examples, California has shifted left in part because of a change in racial demographics. Other Southwestern states are seeing similar (albeit slower) shifts to the left. Here is an interesting take on why Florida has historically been so swingy (and why it might be changing).

Just think about it. If simply campaigning in a state turned it into a swing state, why would candidates focus so heavily on states like Ohio? Wouldn't they rather a larger state like California be a swing state, so campaign there?

Almost all states do do that, right now.

(It's still a winner take all system within each state, but that does help eleminate incentive for election fraud by state governments)

There is an element of inherent unfairness but there's very good reason for the current system being the way it is, which has been discussed on this forum time and time again.
So I'm not wasting my breath here.

And if you don't understand those reasons you have no business going about changing things.

Are you scared of water vapor? Do you break into a sweat when you boil water on the stove? Why did you post a picture of cooling towers?

There was a "very good reason" why black were kept as slaves at one point. It was "inherently unfair"...but as I said, there was a very good reason. There was a "very good reason" why women were not allowed to vote at one point. It was "inherently unfair"...but there was a very good reason.

I suppose people like you would have argued that anyone who did not understand those reasons should have no reason to change things.

You really should not have "wasted" your breath or my time, kaz. And perhaps spending some time thinking before posting would be a good idea.

Who's fault was that, Bevis? That's why normal people don't want you in control. Fooling yourselves with your own bogus polls disqualifies left wingers from having a voice in government. Admitting it disqualifies left wingers from wasting our oxygen.

The Electoral College is inherently why the US has been around for over 200 years when Democracies tend to eat themselves alive. Imagine people in NYC and similar cities that combine to make up the majority of the population in total control. Since many in big cities have never owned their own vehicle, they decide that no one should be allowed to use anything but public transportation. Now think about a farmer in Iowa or a rancher in Wyoming. There's a reason for the Electoral College, if you ever bothered to read Federalist #10, you'd know the thinking behind it.

Not that I am aware of.

But electing someone to an office that is supposed to represent the thoughts and ideas of every citizen is a different thing.

Is there any candidate people vote for on election day that will represent everyone living in the United States?
