Republicans, is this what you want your party to be now? A party of disruptors? A party of insurrectionists? A bunch of angry, rude thugs who are more interested in shouting and bellicosity than democratic participation in government? Because that is what it has become now under Donald Trump's influence. I want to believe the best about every Republican and every American. Please tell me this is not you.

I'm not an R or a D. Of course, there are coo-coo birds on both sides. This doesn't represent ALL Republicans just as there is no "one snapshot" that represents all Democrats.

These are just loud, obnoxious angry people and they come in all shapes and sizes and colors and sexual orientation and gender and on and on. We HAVE to stop trying to paint everybody with the same brush. That's not how human behavior works and it contributes nothing to living in a civilized society.

In the last decade alone, the progressive left has produced hundreds of riots resulting in billions of dollars in damage and you wag your finger at a few people yelling?

So, first off, no. We have seen some violence from frustrated youth in relation to systemic racism lately, but that was not somehow produced by "the progressive left." No one produced that. There is no political or social movement which produces or encourages such property damage.

Second, this is a lame attempt at a deflection and straw man argument, so I ask again: is this what you want your party to be now? A party of disruptors? A party of insurrectionists? A bunch of angry, rude thugs who are more interested in shouting and bellicosity than democratic participation in government? If you do not approve of the looting and property damage that happened last summer, then surely you must disapprove of what is being done now by violent people on the right. Right?

I'd agree with that if not for 1/6. What happened on 1/6 is not how American behavior works, and it must be stopped.

Loudmouthed protesters show up everywhere, like you said, but such Trumpist behavior will be, and should be viewed in light of 1/6.

And also in light of the George Floyd protests that turned violent, to be honest. Rather than people getting defensive and bringing that up as some kind of knee-jerk defensive reaction, I want us to get past that and acknowledge when people on the right are in the wrong and being uncivilized. I didn't post this to attack Republicans, but to give real Republicans an opportunity to denounce these people. The Republican party has long been a law-abiding party that respects government, respects and upholds our democracy, and does not encourage thuggish behavior by anyone. But lately, under Trump, the right seems to be moving towards violent extremism as they embrace Trump's election lies.

The twin terrorist cells of BLM and ANTIFA are most absolutely creations of the progressive left; born out of the Marxist dregs of pseudo-intelligencia, bolstered by the Democrat controlled MSM, logistically supported by the far-left owned big-tech industry, and enabled by the constant actions (or inactions) and words of leftist politicians. And the GOP isn't my party anymore, I left it over their COVID related belligerence. But whatever they are now or whatever they're becoming there is simply no comparison in the areas of rage, violence, or anything similar between the left and the right.

The ratio of real Republicans to Trumplicans in Congress is what? 1 in15? 20? Kinzinger is the only vocal real Republican. I wish him luck, and I'd give him a serious look as a candidate. I'd probably not vote for Cheney, but she is indeed a real Republican.

White Nationalism is a violent ideology. Trump didn't create it, and unlike other presidents who have denounced it, Trump encouraged it.

BLM, Antifa, Marxist, intelligentsia, MSM, far-left, lefists... You drop a lot of talking-point labels, not a lot of facts or original ideas.

Believe what you will about "the left." Will you denounce these thugs on the right? Yes or no?

    So, to follow up.

No one of any note in the Democratic party condones arson and theft by rioters last summer over the murder of George Floyd or of other Black Americans. There is no comparison to Donald Trump and his recent praise for the capitol rioters as "patriots" (increasingly a code word for white nationalists and insurrectionists who are personally loyal to Donald Trump and his version of events, it would seem), "tremendous people," "peaceful" and so on, because those who have engaged in lawlessness over systemic racism and the like have a champion in politics today. They are universally condemned as criminals.

I expect better of Republicans. They are, after all, the party of law and order, and the party of upholding the Constitution. Or so they would have us believe. Under Donald Trump's influence, however, this seems to be undergoing a bit of a stress test. With a majority of Republicans apparently embracing the Big Lie about the 2020 election, which means millions of our fellow citizens across the country essentially embracing an extremist "stop the steal" position, we as a nation are suddenly facing a serious extremist threat. It is important to be aware that we have violent extremists in this country who would, like Timothy McVeigh, take action if they thought it would make a meaningful difference and/or if they thought they could get away with it. The threat of law enforcement and the legal system keeps a lot of them in line, and until recently, they at least had little cause to believe that our democracy was somehow fraudulent and in violation of the Constitution. That, I fear, is a catalyst that could eventually lead to violence committed by a significant of gun-toting white extremists. such as what was recently discovered and prevented by law enforcement in Michigan, where extremists of this kind were plotting to murder or kidnap the governor. The combined riot and insurrection (by a more extreme minority who were there that day specifically for that purpose) on January 6th shows that people who we previously would have assumed were law-abiding and would not attempt something so extreme and violent are, in fact, capable of doing so if sufficiently motivated and encouraged to do so.

The looters and insurrectionists in the wake of Floyd's murder were obviously not only criminals, but a threat to life and livelihoods, yet even they did not and do not presently threaten our way of life or system of government the way Trump's "stop the steal" insurrectionists and sympathizers do today. The latter are people who would murder elected officials and attempt to overthrow the government, while the former were merely angry, stupid, selfish and callous in their actions. They threatened property and livelihoods, but Trump's most fervent followers threaten our democracy and are actively attacking it now at his behest.

My mother was a life long Goldwater republican; my father was an independent for his entire life since he didn't trust political parties. Like my father I've been a life long independent as I likewise don't trust political parties. The one benefit of being an independent that comes to mind is that I don't have politicians knocking on my door, no phone calls, no junk mail and no requests for donations. :)

Yes, however, I refrain from that because it is a wide brush stroke. Consider the formula for how that happened.

    Trump's mesmerizing speech +
Lies told about election fraud +
Ignorance (strict definition) of HOW the certification process works +
    Confusion/frustration about his loss +
A (admittedly false) strong sense of patriotism

All the events that lead up to January 6th, 2021 would not have happened OUTSIDE all these pieces lining up. These were not people gathering and deciding to take our leaders hostage on their own. They were coaxed into that position by a man they believed in and thought would have their back when all was said and done. Some of them are still in jail right now and all illusions of how he would help them are gone.

For over a year racists on this forum have talked about BLM and Anitfa being the epitome of destruction and chaos. Those people don't understand that they (BLM, Antifa, etc.) feel just as strongly about their position as did the rioters on January 6th, 2021. If we want them to consider the idea that those people are not monsters, we have to be willing to consider those on the other side are not either. Actually, NONE of them are. They are people that have been sitting by quietly, growing more and more frustrated with <whatever it is> and decided to act upon it. No matter how it looks, at the end of the day, they are ALL human beings that have been pushed beyond the point by which they felt the need to act.

Chi, I'm not asking you to like them or agree with them or ignore what happened. I'm simply asking you to give those people (and they ARE human beings, not animals) the benefit of the doubt that they were acting in good faith in the hope their pain (whatever the source) would finally be heard. It doesn't matter what side of the fence they're on. Pain is pain and everyone deserves to be heard.

It's not going to happen overnight. It probably won't happen in our lifetimes. Yet, I want to believe that it's possible that some day our descendants can peacefully co-exist with those who hold different opinions than them. And, if you think about that...there is NOBODY on the planet with whom you agree on 100% of all issues. It's not humanly possible. But, it IS possible for us to learn to express ourselves without anger or hatred. It is possible to give the other guy the benefit of the doubt. It is possible to respond with kindness if we try.

Back to "the equation" - Trump has set our country back countless years by stoking the flames of division. He has laid bare all the negative stuff that are hot buttons for people. I usually don't like to label people but, in short, he is toxic. He doesn't care even a tiny bit about how his actions have upended the foundation of free society. This is the reason his bans on social media were upheld. He is dangerous to everything America stands for (or claims to stand for).

Michelle Obama used to say "When they go low, we go high". I like that.

MAGA are the real Republicans. We don't want the neo cons, war mongers or old white men who only care about themselves. The old party was never for America but instead for its own interests. Those days are over.

The Democratic party is all about keeping power and climate change and supporting illegal immigrants. Is that what you want?

So what to you is a real Republicans view point? What is Republican vs MAGA to you?

As for the OP I don't support this behavior from these people nor do I support the OP's double standards. How many threads did you start about Antifa and BLM causing violence Durandal? You only seem to care when it's just one side doing it. That's why most people won't care about your OP because it looks like you just have a agenda to attack Republicans.

Let's not forget Democrats stormed and took over the Wisconsin State Capitol for a entire month and the left and media supported that but a few Republicans get loud and it's the end of the world.

Those are some big double standards you all have here.

I admire your optimism, and I share it, but I disagree with the comparison to BLM. The vast majority of BLM protests were peaceful. The protests were not based on lies from the president. They were based on police brutality and murder.

Trump loyalists, whoever and wherever they are, have been polluted by the Big Lie. They are infinitely more dangerous, whether screaming at an event or walking calmly down the street.

Another biased claim from you. The Democrats devided this country but let's just ignore that and blame it all on Trump.

The day Trump was elected people took to social media asking who would assasinate him. We had mass protests and even some riots everywhere resulting in a few deaths. Black kids pulled elderly white man out of a car and beat him screaming "You voted for Trump". We had recounts and people contesting the election. Lies about Russia influencing people to vote for Trump. Obama spied on Trump. The media literally said Trump was evil before he was even elected and why? Because a bunch of women falsely accused him of rape? Because of a few sexually innapropriate comments he made? Because he called Rosie O Donnel fat?

It's sad you all only see what you want to see. Liberal bubbles don't shield you all from reality. You just choose to ignore the truth for what sounds better.

America was devided long before January 6th. America was devided back when Bush and Obama were presidents.

Trumps speech was devisive? Telling people to march and be peacefull is somehow bad but Maxine Waters calling for violence is somehow ok? The left gives Maxine a free pass but still cries about Trump.

It's getting hard to take any of you seriously anymore.

We're you at the vast majority of BLM protests or riots? If no how can you say they were peacefull?

More black people die every year from lightning than that of white police officers. The statistics do not support your claim of widespread police brutality that warranted all of those protests.

Let's not forget a BLM sniper gunned down 6 cops in Dallas, Texas in 2006 because he was told all cops are bad. BLM is a evil group bent on hating our police for political agenda.

Brandon Webber was a murder and they took his side over the cops who shot him in self defence. Breonna Taylor's crackhead BF tried to gun down cops and they took his side. BLM does not care about justice or defending innocent people or they would have to side with the cops most of the time.

So all you have is a biased oppinion.

Almost all of the videos I saw from BLM protests were violent or crazy.

We had one in Des Moines and the police were ready with riot gear. The Protestors left and then vandalized some buildings away from the police.

In Davenport Iowa the cops were being shot at for several days and a innocent young woman was shot and killed by a protester just for trying to get in her car.

Again you all like to ignore reality and truth for what sounds better to you.

Disrupting a townhall is the least of this dude's problem. Ideologically speaking this person is sick and twisted, and I'm confidence that the vast majority of Republicans would not accept this dude. There are probably some exceptions on these forums.. by which I mean people who will defend this guy as representing Republican values.. but in the political field I wouldn't expect any leaders in the Republican party to accept this guy as one of their own.

Did you see how the cpac crowd attacked Caitlin Jenner as a freak when she tried to give a speech?
The repubs have gone down the rabbit hole with trump and you can count on only a few dozen who aren’t terrified of trump’s cult.
It’s time to stop pretending that repubs have just a few bad apples in their barrel when the whole party has gone sour.

The best thing MAGA could do if they are the real republicans as you propose would be to form a new third party and I'm being serious. Both mainstream parties are corrupt and a part of the same hypocrisy.

People are going to laugh and say that's rubbish but you've pointed out issues with both parties and in eyes of many we are stuck with them since no one wants to take the first step because they believe that it would be next to impossible to form a viable third party that would embrace some ideology from both parties. I've been a life long independent since I never fully trusted either party, tho' I do tend to bend to the left on certain issues such as organized labor and drift to the right as well on the first amendment, etc. It can be done, it'll be rough at first but remember Rome wasn't built in a day. I believe over time Americans will consider and then embrace a third party once they feel they can believe and trust in one.

A good start would be if moderate Democrats and Republicans in Congress were to take the leap and form a third party, anything trying to start from the ground up is ignored, if not ridiculed by the media, and actively sabotaged by the status quo of both parties. But I ain't gonna hold my breath, there's too much big money propping up the two party system.
