No, you cannot leave the country. You canot board an airplane, a boat or a train, nor can you travel by land to the USA because of the US restrictions. This means you are a prisoner inside those borders. The truckers are asking for federal mandates to be lifted, including mandates that make unvaccinated Canadians prisoners of their own country.
Unfortunately for them, Canadian truckers have very little decision making power regarding US visitor policies.
Fixed your quote to example the reality of what power citizens actually have in Canada. Politicians play the "vote for me game", and once they are in power, the decision making process is lost to the citizens. What are they to do, form mass protest? The truckers have no power at all. They were ostracized then demonized until the federal government garnished enough public support to justify enforcement. Now, they will be rounded up, arrested and punished for a long time over their beliefs, and in standing up for their rights in the most peaceful, yet effective method they could muster (pun, i know....). It should be concerning to the population of Canada that no matter what your perspective is on these measures and others like it, a large amount of rights and liberties were stripped away from Canadians without any professional debate on public forums. Without any say by the public. Don't we live in the age of communication? Sure, one might agree this was reasonable, and that Canada's leaders are just, philanthropic and serve their citizens, but what about tomorrow? What if you dont believe in the reasons you are losing your rights come next time? What if the next leader isn't their to serve the public and their rights? It is dangerous that these powers sit in the hands of people whom they do not yet know, and that it was all executed without the say of Canadians. There should be legislation which commands authorities to engage in open public debate with knowledgeable professionals combined with complete transparency of all data relevant to the topic at hand, if the proposal to withdraw rights and freedoms from citizens is ever to be considered. This was a dangerous revelation to Canadians, and perhaps the world, but the funny thing is, most people cant see the reality of the situation behind the circus sideshow that gets waved in their faces. Look at the headlines, learn the talking points, now I am a smart ape too! A good little ape. Wave your teams colors little ape. Look how pretty and smart you all are! Look how stoopid and dangerous that other team is. Good job little ape, now here is your banana .
I was responding to the poster who said they are mad because the US won’t let them in here unvaccinated. Americans can and do get killed when the government does no knock warrants. So, mask tyranny is pretty low on my list of government overreach.
Ah, a real thinker! With keen clarity, competent comprehension, and piercing attention to detail. I like it! Keep on keepin' on curious one.
We have real government overreach happening, but most are silent. The government can take all your ****, and even if you are found not guilty, they can keep it in some situations. Cicil forfeiture is a very real threat to Americans and their personal liberty. Masks? Pfft. Nothing burger.
In Canada, masks are a provincial regulation. The discussion was regarding federal mandates and some folks not finding it fair to force them on the people. What do masks have to do with the conversation?
Do you oppose an independent country having rules for entry into the country? Do you think Mexican truckers should dictate Poland’s criteria? Rules are not overreach. “We only want vaccinated people in our country,” is a reasonable rule. Caring for the general welfare is a legitimate government function in the US. That includes health.
You misinterpreted my point. The poster Pants said they are "free to leave the country", which is untrue. If an unvaccinated Canadian wants to leave Canada and obtain citizenship elsewhere, they are not allowed to exercise that human right. They are trapped in Canada until that federal mandates is lifted. This has nothing to due with America's right to close their borders to the unvaccinated, other than the fact it stops Canadians from leaving their country. America is the only border Canada has that does not require air or sea travel. If say Sweden opens its doors to an unvaccinated Canadian, that Canadian cannot leave. That was my point.
Because you have to be vaccinated to get on a plane. That’s not imprisonment. That’s making a choice to intentionally slow down ending this thing. It would have been over a long time ago if people weren’t uneducated dolts who wouldn’t understand the scientific method if it arrived with a card that said, “hey, I’m the scientific method!”
There ya go. Thats the ape response I was looking for. Thanks for waiving your flag almighty like. What a pretty color too! Such a smart ape! All scientific and stuff. Well done little fella. Good luck out there!
Are you 5? ‘Cause, Nanee naneee boo boo is for children. Apologies, I meant no offense to the scientifically illiterate.
That was the answer to whether you trust democracy. So the next question has to be, what would you like to put in its place?
Thanks. It was difficult admitting that publicly but I thought it was important, if, for no other reason, I don't want anyone out there reading this to think they are going through a myriad of emotions about what we all are facing as a nation. I'm sure I'm not the only one that never thought this was possible in our country. NOTE: To anyone out there reading this struggling, confused, worried, sad, heartbroken, unsure what comes next for our country, please feel free to private message if you need someone to listen. I care and I will listen. You are not alone.
Were any Canadian trucking industry bodies in support of the protests? I wouldn't be surprised if one or more came out and condemned it like this American one.
Thank you - you reiterated my point. The restrictions are determined by the destination country - in this case, the US. So even if Canada lifts the mandate, truckers still won't be able to enter the US unless fully vaccinated.
The contiguous nations of Europe have since covid began, been opening, closing and making conditions for entry and exit at an alarming rate. The tension has been between containing the spread of covid due to each nation having different rules and even vaccines, and the airline and travel companies. ISTM the same set of problems involving disease containment is the driver here (sorry for the pun). Yet instead of airlines, truckers are starved of profits. The best you can do is talk to Canada and devise an agreed permit to cross borders. And now we will get the expected "no one is going to steal my personal information/Nazi/socialist/communist/oppressive totalitarian " stuff. Canada, the US and the truckers' representatives need to sort it out and come to an agreement. The rest of the populations will have to live with whatever they decide.
Well if you have no solution to any form of government and no nation can survive without one, which also means it will have some impact on your life if only to tell you which side of the road to drive on, you will just have to be an adult and accept imperfection. Like the rest of us.
One has to understand the difference between a privilege and a right. Driving on either side of the road is a privilege, making the trip is a right.
I would actually reverse that. You have a fundamental right of movement. Hence driving on either side is also a right. Otherwise you could not exercise that human right. The privilege is being able to afford to make the trip. Which side of the road is designated for the general safety and needs defining.
