Why does the right persist in trying to paint NYC as crime ridden?

    1. Once again you all seem to be falling victim to sensationalist headlines. YES, in 2021 homicides on the subway went up 400%!!!! (as the Murdoch Post splashed on its front page)...... From 2 homicides the previous year to 8 in 2021. There are 2.3 million riders on the subway every weekday. That is the size of a large city. There are 2.4 crimes for every Million riders, and as stated above 8 homicides for the whole year. You are falling prey to headlines that are absolutely out of whack with reality. the NY subway is incredibly safe. Of course any upwards trend in crime is abhorrent and to be kept in check, but that already seems to be happening with the 2023 early crime numbers.
Please look at Rudy's numbers: his very best year is worst than the 25 subsequent years in terms of crime. In other words Republicans hailed him as a genius for having relatively low crime stats, and are now decrying democrats for having BETTER numbers than Rudy's and calling NYC a cesspool of violence!!!!
Also, not sure how you 'see' the criminal system acting or not acting to protect the innocent. Just because you see a YouTube video of people looting a store doesn't mean those people aren't being prosecuted. Just because someone is released with no bail doesn't mean that they don't still have a court date where they will be prosecuted.
And lastly, do not fall into the @Condor fallacy: these crime stats are the amount of crimes commited, not amount of crimes solved and prosecuted. A murder is counted as 1 Homicide, regardless of if the person is caught or prosecuted. And it is unheard of for people not to be declared missing or dead.
BTW: what is your "right wing city"? let's compare crime rates....

He admitted thinking a crime is not counted as crime unless the criminal is caught and prosecuted. Very confused.

Actually, thats not my link, thats Pro lines link. How it is attached to my statement is unknown to me.

Second, in the fine print it clearly states.
As of January 2013, complaints occurring within the jurisdiction of the Department of Correction have been disaggregated from the borough and precinct crime totals and are displayed separately on the Department of Correction CompStat page.

So I don't know what to tell ya

If NYC keep all their tax money rather then sending to RED state to keep lights on, feed the RED state poor people, keep the Red state hospital running, NYC could invest more in security and reduce more crime. But this is America and even though NYC collect more Federal Revenue than 10 RED states combined, NYC send those tax $$$ to Red state.

No, you posted that. Now that you realize that it proved your claims bogus, you are trying to say you didn't post it.

No, you don't, but for some reason you keep posting and digging yourself deeper and deeper in the hole.

I quoted an entire article. I had not idea the link was in that article.
Yet the link is attached to statement made by the NYPD, stating crimes are up in every category except for murders and shootings over the past two years.

So your argument is with the NYPD, not me. Its their claim, not mine.
    Thanks for verifying my post.

Its too bad the over 3000 officers who have quit don't agree with your made up assessment.
You might have had something there if they did.

3000 police officer view on crime doesn’t change the facts that NYC send their hard earn money to keep lights on in RED state. Bringing about Red state crime rate is down, well the police department in some RED state are run by NYC tax $$$$.

You are the one who posted an article dated March 2023 about crime in 2021 and 2022 in a thread that is discussing drop in crimes from beginning of 2023 up to date. Your link validates the OP containing a link that points to up to date crime rates (year start to Nov 2023) but you just keep embarrassing yourself with your denial instead of admitting you are wrong

Uhm, OK. So care to compare the homcide rate of NYC to Dallas and Miami then? I was being kind by picking the whole state rather than the hell hole dangerous cities of Dallas and Miami that are SOOOOOooooooooo far above NYC in dangerosity they are not even in the same league. I was being generous by including the whole state so that you guys couldn't weasel your way out of it by claiming that the cities were democrat run. Dallas and TX are way more dangerous than NYC and NY State. Miami and Florida are way more dangerous than NYC and New York State. So once again, why are you guys fixated on NYC allegedly being a dangerous city.

Oh, so I just saw from your profile that you are from Oklahoma. Top 12-15 most dangerous states in the US depending on how you look at it. Biggest cities Oklahoma City and Tulsa that are WAAAAAAAaaaaaaayyyy more dangerous than NYC. I mean way way way more dangerous.
I get why you are saying about violence being somewhat predictive in some situations, it's the randomness that is scary. So far this year there have been 10 incidences of people being pushed on the tracks. I don't know how many were random or fights. the ridership for the MTA last year was 1 700 000 000. That means that every time you take the subway in the city, you have 0.00000059 chances of getting shoved onto the tracks (if my high school math is correct). Don't get me wrong, those are awful acts, but they are really very very rare. Pretty sure that your odds of dying in your car from a freak and random accident are far greater.

The thread is about crime complaints in 2023! Why is that so hard for you to understand? Learn to read! Your own link shows that crime complaints have dropped in 2023 compared to the previous two years. You are delusional

Here's the place to compare city to city to the entire nations crime rates; don't see a state option.
Does indicate that NY's crime rates are pretty low.

"And after a big crime increase in 2021, and a smaller one in 2022, early numbers indicate that crime is dropping."

I live in New York State, not in a city, but in a rural part of the state. I've never felt unsafe anywhere in the state including NYC where I've spent a lot of time over my lifetime.
