Why does the right persist in trying to paint NYC as crime ridden?

    Nice site.
It's true it's hard finding stats for each city individually in a format that makes it comparable. Although it's not perfect, it really does help a side by side comparison. It might help our friends from Oklahoma to realise they are much safer in NYC than in Tulsa or Oklahoma City. Our friend @Condor060 would also maybe realise the point of this thread (succinctly: despite crime having gone up in 2021 and 2022 in NYC (and in 2023 now going down). NYC is safer than most big cities and safer than most areas in the US. Why persist in painting it as crime ridden?) but since he seems as completely misguided as he was during his hilarious Arizona debacle, I don't think he will. But maybe he will also note that crime in his hometown, also spiked dramatically, before coming back down, just like pretty much everywhere in the US. He will also maybe note that NYC is deemed safer than Charlotte (and if you include the suburbs of Mecklenberg it ain't even close).

Sigh. It says clearly in the OP that crime went up in NYC it 2021 and 2022. It is now going down. This has been the trend pretty much absolutely EVERYWHERE in the US. No one is contesting that. Despite the crime increase of 21 and 22 (and I will repeat it again: and crime now going down). New York City remains one of the safest big cities in the US and safer than the US average, and just...safe. So why are Republicans trying to paint it as a concrete jungle? I hope that every poster who has chimed in here has a look at @spiritgide s website and compares NYC to their hometown. If you're surprised by the results, maybe worth pondering why you had the impression that the comparison would turn out differently

Nice tactic to refer to what your own OP says and imply it’s truth, and without a link. o_O

Well at least you don’t deny like some other people that NYC feed half of southern red state.

Yes, we can see it in this thread. If people perceive that NYC is crime ridden and a $hithole, because they have heard it 1000s of times on RW media, they'll believe it is true. No amount of evidence to the contrary can convince them otherwise.

My bet: The vast majority of people who think NYC is crime ridden and a $hithole, have never been there, other than to one of their three airports for a layover.

I thought most media in the US is LW due to it's selective reporting

You know the homicide rate is higher in Lexington and explosively higher in Louisville compared to NYC right? Do you live in fear of going to those cities, or is it just the NYC boogeyman that scares you? I will repeat it again: New York State has a crime rate below the national average, and New York by every metric is one of the safest large cities in the US and a safe city overall.
    Louisville 1 homicide/ 4931 inhabitants
    Lexington 1 homicide/ 7313 inhabitants
    NYC 1 homicide/ 16264 inhabitants
So you can sarcastically scoff, or you could actually look at real numbers rather than mindlessly parrot what you are being fed by MTG, Fox and wherever make believe news you get your info from.

It's been a while since I was in NYC, but my informants tell me it has gone down hill in recent years.

Not only is it CRIME RIDDEN, its also SOFT ON CRIME (especially when commting crimes while black). There is an up side though. You can commit a crime in the subway in the morning, be done being processed by the police by the afternoon and still make it home in time to watch THE FIVE on FOX.Try living there for a year and then get back to me. I lived in mulitple sections, including upper east side for a while and even that is a DUMP.

People here saying it isn't crime ridden fall into two categories:

    1) they don't want to admit they pay 1000s for a shoe box sized apartment in the middle of a slum infested warzone (I wouldnt wanna admit it either)

    2) as a member of the BLUE ARMY, they have to pretend it Isn't high in crime, just like they pretend to ignore all of the rapes committed by their new loved organization - HAMAS

Deport NYC’s cop-beating migrants — if we can find them after they were let loose on no bail. “Adams has previously admitted his city’s social fabric is collapsing but still can’t bring himself to admit we simply can’t take in 100% of the people who want to be part of the American dream, whether they break other laws or not.”

Bragg let them off on their promise to show up for their court date.
Flipped off the cameras as they left the Court.
They used fake news to get bus tickets from a Catholic charity and caught a bus to the Mexican border.

I have a feeling they are not properly tracking crime.

Maybe because NYC is crime ridden?
