Nope. The heater depends on the engine cooling system. The engine cooling system does not depend on the heater.

Probably why the car squeezed enough juice out of the batteries to get home.

I believe from previous discussions elsewhere (probs another forum) the regenerate energy on a journey will give you enough extra energy to do a lap of a city block.

EV technology is at toy stage level.

Or another analogy is, EV's are the stage of where steam engines are to modern cars. It's a start I suppose.

Watched a video review of the most popular EV in the UK.

Apparently this crew purchased 3 MG4's to use on a DAILY BASIS to carry their EQUIPMENT to sites all around the UK two years ago.

One of these EV's has just clocked 100.000 MILES on the odometer in just TWO YEARS. That is like 7 years of NORMAL driving. The EV's were ALWAYS fully LOADED at all times because of the equipment on board.

The car was in it's 3rd set of tires and it had 4k on the latest set.

The BRAKE PADS were virtually as good as new. REGENERATIVE braking SAVES owners MONEY because the do NOT need to replace PADS as frequently.

Everything was still working NORMALLY and the BATTERY was showing 94% of ORIGINAL CHARGE space available after 100,000 miles which is EXACTLY in line with Tesla's 12% decline over 200,000 miles.

If YOU owned an ICE vehicle that had done 100,000 miles with an AVERAGE of 39 mpg YOU would have PURCHASED 2 564 GALLONS of gas or nearly $19k (15k UK pounds) in FUEL alone. You can ROUND that UP to $25k with Dealer SERVICES and OIL CHANGES and BRAKE PADS.

Real world EXAMPLE of how EV's SAVE their owners way more than owning an ICE even if they still have to use the occasional charging station on LONG trips.

EV's are only a potential answer where there is a potential for large-scale electrical generation from renewables, that supply is reliable and there is a margin to spare. Upstate New York has that, and not the NYC Metro area. How many other areas have that?

Eric only you could find a downhill all the time everywhere you go maybe you'll get about four more miles of range as long as it's not too cold or not too hot or not too windy and you don't run any accessories or headlights or blinkers.

but nothing for say a 15 year old Toyota Camry with 370,000 miles on it and you could run the heater.
I just use a car that isn't terrible.
actually in order for the battery to give you the most range you have to heat the battery. That's why they build heaters into the battery and they have a battery coolant system as well just like a regular car.

“With the route set, Mr. Ramos climbed inside a Volvo-manufactured electric semi. It hummed softly next to the growl of the diesel truck in the next parking space. Mr. Ramos likes the peaceful ride: “It’s just you and your thoughts.” He and IMC’s leaders said they’re eager to use cleaner trucks, but they’re worried that regulators are pushing electric vehicles too quickly. This truck had recently been out of commission for about a month while the manufacturer replaced its battery, which was recalled because of a fire risk.

Mr. Ramos left IMC at 5:30 a.m. He drove 9 miles south to a charging station near the Port of Long Beach, where he remained for an hour, charging the battery from 54% to 90%. He then made his first haul, picking up a container and delivering it to a customer.

A second haul started around noon—and that was it for the day. In a diesel truck, Mr. Ramos said, he could have made six hauls. But even the second one required another visit to the charging station—33 miles out of his way, and another hour and a half of charging. A diesel semi can fuel up in 15 minutes and then drive 1,000 miles—a round trip from Los Angeles to Reno, Nev.—before needing to refuel. Making the same trip, Mr. Ramos’s electric truck would have to make six recharging stops of at least 90 minutes each.“
