Pot is more potent, but I doubt the pot was the factor that caused this crime. Law enforcement would rather deal with pot smokers than drunks.

 

Reading this story one is very little surprise to find it was a blue State much less California.

No, but I am appalled at this case. It feels more and more that the romanticism of the justice system gives way to a more dark, cynical and hopeless system in reality. This woman is a felony murderer, I'm going to make that clear since the jury could not. She deliberately chose to murder this man. And instead of doing right by the victim and his family, this jury chose to side with murder.

That's just the facts. If I were their lawyer, I would immediately file an appeal. This bitch needs prison time.

Yes, take it to the bank. Pot does not do that to people. I have literally seen or gotten high with thousands of people and have seen it affect someone this way only once, and she had plenty of mental issues already, and it wasn't two bong hits. She didn't stab anyone, though. Just freaked out a little.
I do have a thought, though. I do not believe that it causes psychosis, but it may enhance it in those who already have psychotic tendencies. One of the things pot does is enhance the senses, smell, sight, taste, etc., so it seems possible that it may enhance other brain functions and exacerbate an issue that is already there.
I do not feel that it should be a "get out of jail free" card, so to speak. I know this may seem to be an overreach, but I saw some pictures of the woman and she has "that look" in her eyes. She has issues, and I wouldn't be surprised if she has some other incident in the future, which is why I think she should have at least been remanded to a mental institution.

Pot does causes psychosis on people. Not all, or most, experience it, but some do. A friend of mine who was visiting smoked some in Miami and found himself wandering around the streets in South Beach in his under wear and he has no idea where he was. Pot paranoia is only a milder version of it, and most pot smokers have experienced it.
