For me the rhetorical question is more like what are allies prepared to do to help other allies in such circumstances.

 

Before the invasion much of the population in the East of Ukraine considered themselves Russian anyway. The occupied land should be neutral, neither Russian or Ukrainian. Ukraine has always been a mash up of various regions artificially united

 

I fully support British, French, German and Belgian troops deploying to the battlefield.

 

If the French fight in Ukraine, there will be plenty of French weapons available. Never fired and only dropped once.

....well.....let's not rush ahead....we're not quite there yet, there are a shed load of stages to go through before that becomes a serious discussion. Question....did you actually ready Marcon's speech by any chance? I say that because judging by the nature of your comments I would hazard not. Would you like a link to the gist of it? I think Marcon's narrative is aimed at preparing EU/Western NATO members for the consideration that under a trump government the US will not abide by its' treaty requirements, Indeed there is talk amongst top military and intelligence analysts that the US under trump may need to be considered a hostile state, for example viewed through the lens of the 5 Eyes or AUKUS agreements, thus you begin to understand the reasoning behind the Macron rhetoric...it's a wake up call...Macron is not leading his forces onto the battlefield just yet. Whatever one thinks of that narrative should probably be predicated on ones view of trump and his relationship with russia and putin (and the possible reactions from the non-NATO countries); being at best transactional in nature in which case one must prepare for and discount any existing treaty agreements that the US has previously agreed to. It is highly likely that under Trump US foreign and military policy will become very chaotic and extremely disjointed.

 

Macron didn't say anything about NATO, or the US (probably because no one relies on US/NATO under Trump), and he also said there are no plans to send any European troops, he only said all options are on the table. He SHOULD clarify if he meant combat troops or EU peacekeeping troops to enforce whatever potential peace deal they negotiate. Europe seems to be pushing some kind of Korea style resolution.

 

The NATO members should already be prepared. They should be prepared to mobilize today.

In addition, German Chancellor Scholz stated that no ground troops or soldiers will be sent to Ukraine from Europe or NATO member countries. A senior White House official told Reuters that the United States has no plans to send troops to Ukraine or NATO troops. Poland and Britain also denied sending troops. France would have to go it alone, if it wants to get bogged down in Ukraine.

How did the US violate the memorandum (treaty by all standards). Once they went in to take Crimea they started the violations. You can’t be an American, you act like a communist sympathizer.
