or more likely it's a backstop narrative for the EU; preparing the ground with EU leaders for a US withdrawal from NATO by the US should Trump get elected....In the event of a Trump election its highly likely that America will not come to the aid of a NATO member should it be attacked therefore you're seeing the EU shift its narratives....Macron has always been wary of the US and NATO under Trump....

Its not unusual to say all options are on the table, but obviously there are no plans and no consensus to send any European troops there, unless its to establish a North vs South Korea style border to end the conflict.

Wrong, and that's the real tragedy of your argument. You have this misguided idea that it will end the conflict and save lives when it won't. You ought to know better. Appeasement doesn't work.

 

I think they should have signed the treaty offered years ago and ended the war then with Ukraine ceding some territory.

If Europe really wants to sacrifice itself in a nuclear conflict, keep the USA out of it. This war is utter stupidity, and could have been so easily avoided by simply...doing nothing. I see Russia taking Ukraine as not much different than the USA taking California. Don't really give a ****.

 

I think this is the wake-up call the European "elites" didn't want...they've been very happy to have been flooded with Russian money...to become very wealthy with it; accountancy firms, legal firms, politicians and elections all being funded and influenced by Russian active measures and Russian money and Russian intelligence actors...in the US as well as Europe.....sure its a wake up call. I can see what and why Macron is making these noises...it's breaking the glass on the fire alarm....we'll see if people react...who knows.

And Putin does not have the capability to take even the rest of Ukraine, let alone the rest of Europe. And why in the world would he want to? That would serve no purpose, and is simply a boogeyman to justify ridiculous defense spending.

Kremlin warns of conflict with NATO if alliance troops fight in Ukraine

MOSCOW (Reuters) - The Kremlin warned on Tuesday that conflict between Russia and the U.S.-led NATO military alliance would be inevitable if European members of NATO sent troops to fight in Ukraine.

The war in Ukraine has triggered the worst crisis in Russia's relations with the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis and President Vladimir Putin has previously warned of the dangers of a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia.

French President Emmanuel Macron opened the door on Monday to European nations sending troops to Ukraine, although he cautioned that there was no consensus at this stage.

"The very fact of discussing the possibility of sending certain contingents to Ukraine from NATO countries is a very important new element," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters when asked about Macron's remarks.
