Me too. I appreciate everything the people in the military do for us, but I fear they are being used to advance agendas. You do allow me to sleep soundly at night. Thank you!

These six little words are so true. I'd like to see what our politicians would do if no one volunteered?

    Draft? Ha

The way the CIA has messed this countries population up by supplying it with large doses of Cocaine and Heroin the last forty years to support there own little private wars and the decay of morales or obedience in this country I'll like to see the military train the every day drug fiend or obese person you see on the street.

I had to go to college to fly jets. I went to a very, very good one at that. So nice try, but ultimately you were just as wrong as you were before you thought you had me figured out.

If only you used your education for good instead of evil.

    Such a shame.

Yes I would stop. Iraq/Afghanistan is a war zone but its not constant firing. When a civilain drives at a convoy and ignores all other warning signs (signs, flags, and flares) they will most definitely be able to tell the shot (which should be a tracer round) is warning them. Also, signs are in Arabic, I don't know where you got the idea they weren't. Also, what cluster bombs? I spent 14 months over there and never once saw a cluster munition.....even after patrolling through some of Saddams old bunkers that were hit by air strikes. Cluster munitions are very rare, they're not just lying around on every stret corner. You watch too many movies.

Ummm...yeah, I would stop. Like Ignoranceisbliss said, it's not constant gunfire 24/7. We have ROE's and escalation of force for a reason. Not to mention the fact that we have been there for EIGHT YEARS, and the convoy SOP's as a whole, have not changed, so they KNOW the deal as it is for the most part. We very rarely had to "convince" people to move, as they knew what to do.

As stated before me, the signs are in their language.

Our escalation of force went as follows for a situation of rear security:

Car comes up from behind and is getting too close.
-I would make eye contact and put my hand up to stop, I would do this two or three times, depending on how fast he was closing in on us.
-I'd shoot a flare at their car
-Id then bring my rifle up and aim it at them (this usually worked)
-Id then point in the air and fire a warning shot
    -Shoot to disable vehicle
    -Shoot to kill

I am doing something good. I provide support for the young men in the heat so they can come home and get on with their lives in as peaceful of a state as possible. They cannot harvest their benefits posthumously.

I normally like your posts, but this is one is a jump off the deep end. Such a shame.

I have lots of friends who have served and are serving. Politics has no place in the military. I salute you. Once you take an interest in politics, surely you can understand why people would be as frustrated as the OP. Home is in dire straights, and our toughest are working for the interests abroad of the people bankrupting home, whether that is why they fight or not. But you also might as well be honest, if you have the physicality to be a warrior, there is nothing funner on earth. More toys than the richest kid on Christmas has to play with. Only one of my friends ever wanted to leave the military and it was because he wanted to travel the globe more than they would allow.

And the military should have no place in politics. Unfortunately the military is simply muscle.

Don't listen to this fool. You my friend have the coolest job in the military. Well besides operating Abrams Tanks of course ;)

But seriously, it really does make things a hell of a lot easier knowing that if (*)(*)(*)(*) really hit the fan we have you guys up there who will respond in a matter of seconds. We had got into a firefight with some Taliban in the city and they were laying down some pretty heavy fire on us with RPG's and AK's. Within 30 seconds we had F/A-18s buzzing the buildings as an escalation of force. Taliban thought they were about to be bombed so they ran outside of the building they were in. Bad mistake.

Overall you guys kick ass, Thank You

    No we do not

YES I would stop after somebody shot at me. The wars aren't like Call of Duty, there isn't constant gunshots going off all day and night everywhere. I would try to run AWAY, exactly, just like they should do. If you are running AWAY you won't get shot. Keeping running TOWARDS us then yes you will likely get shot. Who the hell would run TOWARDS somebody shooting warning shots at them unless you had bad intentions of causing us harm. And the signs are in Arabic, Poshtu, Dari, etc. IE Their languages. Try again.
We don't cluster bomb cities. The only time we would use cluster bombs would be if engaged in open field combat. Even then it's extremely rare. So, try again.

Good, drones put less pilots in harms way.

Who zeals for war? You know who hates war a hell of a lot more than you? The troops who fight them.

Can you understand that the commanders of these wars don't get to vote whether or not they go to war? They are sent there to do a job. Hindsight is 20/20, right now the troops ARE THERE and their commanders have no say so in the matter. So again I ask you. As a commander your soldiers are your number 1 priority. So how would you protect their safety?

You can't answer that because you would have to agree with the ROE's we have in place. There is no "pull out the troops" option. There is no "go back in time and not deploy" option. You are a commander on the ground and you must protect your troops. They are doing that. You can't fault them for that. But of course you expect them to prioritize the livelihood of the locals over that our their soldiers right? Even if it means their soldiers are dying. Seriously...?

Yeah, tanks are cool and all, but being a Paratrooper is by far the best

By far the best feeling I've ever had was CAS doing a show of force for us....

I was in the gun, and I knew they were coming. I saw one fly so low I could count the rivets. Looked up and said "Oh cool..." Then the the sounds of the jets came about 2 seconds later...and I went from "oh cool" to "oh sh*t" lol

Hit the nail on the head, thank you.

I would like to thank all our brave men and women who are proud to serve this great country. and are willing to put their lives on the line to protect Our Country, and our freedoms.

    Semper Fi Marines.

and that goes for you as well Seamen, Airmen and Soldiers.

Ooops I guess I just did what the OP told me I should not be doing.

Oh well since I know why I served my country. and never once did I think about turning my rifle on any U.S. citizen its really a retarded post.

and since we have our men and women dying in harms way all the time. I'm great full that people are willing to defend our country. even when they have to put up with BS like the OP, and others that have degraded the U.S. Armed forces over the years.

    Semper Fi

    And thanks you to brother.

It doesn't matter what anyone tries to say, or tries to label us. I will never regret it, and I will always be proud of it. No one can take that away from me.

Just remember, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, no matter how ignorant or backwards it is.

That has got to be a weird situation. A friend told about how during the 1st gulf war he was in a column that got hit by friendly fire. The people who were holding down an area where there was supposed to be no one allowed got their grid wrong and dumped on them. Said it was scary as (*)(*)(*)(*) seeing American fire power from the other side of the coin. I can only imagine.

You guys are nuts, you jump out of a perfectly good aircraft that isn't on fire or anything lol ;)
I bet you can't run over cars with your vehicle lol

I think the coolest thing I saw was when some Taliban attacked a convoy about a half click away from my COP then took off running into a large open field. They thought about chasing them down on foot but then we had a better idea. Called in our little buddies :) We sat on the roof of one of the broken down buildings on our COP and watched a Kiowa and an Apache have a field day (no pun intended) lol about 500 meters away. We made more noise that day cheering on the roofs than we did on New Years. It was awesome. You can run, but you (*)(*)(*)(*) sure won't get far haha.

    Yes inded

i saw a comic strip about that, I dont remember it completely but it went something like this:

"You are at war, there is a company sized enemy element to your front, you are a single squad on patrol, what is your plan?"

    Marines: ATTACK!!!
Army: We have artillery and CAS and tanks and stuff, shouldn't we wait for support?
    Marines: No, ATTACK!!!
Army: We'll be right behind you...
Air Force: We have A-10s ready to roll, give us a grid
Marines: We don't need you! ATTACK!!!
Navy: What the hell is a war?

    lol ;) all in fun

    Great response, 1AmericansView!

Your remarks are always to the point and well crafted!

    JC

Too bad the liberal Democrats in Congress are so foolish and so misguided that they will never appreciate the sacrifices our young men and women in the Armed Forces have so unselfishly and sincerely made.

Yeah well the Army takes the credit for the action in the real world performed by Marines....

So its only fair that we get the credit in Hollywood... lol
