Vladimir Putin has praised the Russian cruise missiles fired against terrorists in Syria from the sea. He expressed hope that these weapons would not have to be armed with nuclear warheads.

This clearly shows that this is a viable option if the need arises

Wow, I read this thread I my gf sitting next to me and was surprised to see both of us kinda 'shrug' at the idea.

If your country did fire nukes at them I would hope they wouldn't be from the same cruise missiles. I know they did get there but didn't three or four of them crash in Iran?

Just hope you use bombs from planes if/when you and Putin do it

That was never proven. Both Iran and Russia denied it.

    My country is United States.

I agree for the most part. That is why NATO wants to be involved with syria.

But it's all pretty funny since LENR will make all gass and oil in the world obsolete. And it allows alchemy to be done cost effectively

    - - - Updated - - -

    With who?

Why would the west start a war over russia nuking ISIS?

"You obliterated the terrorists, now let's obliterate eachother"

    That type of thing?

    Sure.

And everyone is ok with mutus destruction?

REALISTICALLY something like this would happen.

US will condemned russia for disproportionate use of force. Then heavy rounds of sanctions for years to come will follow

NO ONE will start a nuclear war with Russia over something like this.

    NUCLEAR WAR = MUTUAL DESTRUCTION.

AND NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIGHT WILL WAGE A NUCLEAR WAR OVER NUKING ISIS. NO ONE

It's not like russia would be attacking the west. Just terrorist.

    Of course thats bullcrap.

Do you think Iran wants nuclear fallout to cover half its population?

Do you think every country east of Syria wants nuclear fallout to cover its population?

Does Russia have a special ISIS nuke that only kills ISIS members, and not everyone else along with them?

Russians first fixed this problem when they designed the Tzar bomb

The Tsar Bomba was a three-stage bomb with Trutnev-Babaev second and third stage design, with a yield of 50 to 58 megatons of TNT (210 to 240 PJ). This is equivalent to about 1,350–1,570 times the combined energy of the bombs that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki, 10 times the combined energy of all the conventional explosives used in World War II, one quarter of the estimated yield of the 1883 eruption of Krakatoa, and 10% of the combined yield of all nuclear tests to date. A three-stage H-bomb uses a fission bomb primary to compress a thermonuclear secondary, as in most H-bombs, and then uses energy from the resulting explosion to compress a much larger additional thermonuclear stage. There is evidence that the Tsar Bomba had several third stages rather than a single very large one.

The initial three-stage design was capable of yielding approximately 100 Mt, but it would have caused too much nuclear fallout and the plane delivering the bomb would not have enough time to escape the explosion. To limit fallout, the third stage and possibly the second stage had a lead tamper instead of a uranium-238 fusion tamper (which greatly amplifies the reaction by fissioning uranium atoms with fast neutrons from the fusion reaction). This eliminated fast fission by the fusion-stage neutrons, so that approximately 97% of the total energy resulted from fusion alone (as such, it was one of the "cleanest" nuclear bombs ever created, generating a very low amount of fallout relative to its yield). There was a strong incentive for this modification since most of the fallout from a test of the bomb would have ended up on populated Soviet territory.

That was in 61. By now they have way cleaner nuclear weapons.

The rationale for dropping nukes on Japanese cities was that it would save many American lives by making large-scale amphibious assault on the home islands unnecessary.

Surely, the same case can be made for nuking Raqqa etc. I'm not saying it would be a good idea, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear Donald Trump calling for the plan. It's a long way to the GOP convention and the Donald needs at least one new and bigger shocker every month in order to stay on top.

I think you're reading a little too much into Putin's remarks:

People have the wrong idea about which action could start WW3.
The MAD principle only applies if one nuclear nation attacks another nuclear nation or its allies with a nuclear weapon.
MAD wouldn't happen if the nuclear nations don't give a rat's ass about the one getting nuked.
In this case if the USA, UK, France and Russia decide to nuke ISIS, especially with a limited yield tactical nuke, I don't see India, Pakistan or China lifting a single finger in protest.

Yes. Western media and politicians are lying dogs. And the majority of US citizens believe them.
