You are exercising two things, your ignorance and your arrogance. You have a very self centered view of the world.

An alternative solution to guns? No guns; how about that for a radical idea? How come Europe, with all its myriad and vastly different cultures, recognises that poorly regulated and controlled mass gun ownership is a bad idea? Is America, with over 18,000 annual deaths from gunshot, the only Western country with the right idea? Hmm, let me think...

So claim liberals that abstain from facts when it comes to gun control.

Yeah, I'm just a terrible guy.

    Fine.

    Okay.

Now, what have you got to say about the topic?

Being ignorant is not a crime and does not make you a terrible guy, just not well educated. Your arrogance is thinking that everyone is somehow different now than anyone in the past. You are self centered because your viewpoint is centered in self as in because you are on earth, somehow it is different today.

Well, I grant you some place to criticize what I say, but you cannot be here to lecture me on my shortcomings (whether real or perceived by you).

I'm only going to tolerate so much of that, because ME being the topic is both annoying and against the rules (I should not have to tell you that).

Sometime what you perceive as "ignorance", is just me kindly avoiding where you want to take the conversation. I don't agree with the way some people want to go with what they are saying. Perhaps I need a better way of handling that; I'll consider it.

No. You are wrong. You DO need to stop talking down to or about me. The very arrogance you accuse me of, is essentially irrelevant to the topic.

I see it as disagreement and you see it as some reason to attempt to lecture me. I'm not really going to take that and you really need to know it.

You are being arrogant in trying to judge me, and whether I'm "self-centered" or not in your damned eyes... you are not here to try to lecture me. You yourself are by no means perfect and neither are your views or knowledge. But Lord knows, you need to talk about what you think you know on the topic... rather than showing your arrogance by talking about me, which for obviously good reason is against the rules.

Now PLEASE, stop lecturing to and complaining about 'me'; it's really inappropriate for the most part. Keep it up, and I'll make a campaign of reporting you doing the same. Also, "ignore" is an option too.

I hope you understand what I'm saying.

I disagree with the liberal's version of more gun control. I am open to where they are coming from, but I do feel they are misguided. I only ask they see my version which is pretty much the NRA version, an organization I am proud to say I'm a member of, and have been for many years.

Yeah except only Liberals and Independents have provided facts in this thread. The homicide rate in the US is four times higher than in the UK, Five times higher than in Germany, France, Poland.... oh and 40 times higher than in Japan. Want links? Scroll up.

Want links Conservatives to show countries that have:
    A) Central government stronger than the criminal element
    B) Strict laws & sufficient manpower to enforce them and
    C) Severe minimum sentences
    D) Lower homicide rates than the USA?

Oh wait, there are none? ConservaRepubs dodge or ignore facts? Yeah we knew that. You may now continue using tactics from the WJH...

Pepper spray is against the law in the UK, just as it is in Illinois, New York and at least another 10 States. As far as Permitted CC owners, 99% would have stopped the assassination of this man. Then again you more than likely think that Zimmerman is guilty for killing Trayvon Martin too?

    To confused,
    Where were illegal aliens mentioned?
As I understand it, the perps are British subjects.

One of the perps DID have a gun. That's why they were shot.

Yes, and the incidence of eating zebras is 1000x higher within a pride of lions than in a herd of goats.

You wish to equate homocide statistics amongst different cultures as though such a comparison is legitimate, but it's not. Japan is culturally homogenous, and inherently more respectful. It is part of the culture of freedom that such risks increase, as do rewards. The form of culture we have adopted has consequences, among them constant strife - and with such strife come additional freedoms through which we can secure our autonomy. There is no better example of this than through ownership of a firearm.

Many of us want no part of the sanitized and idealized culture about which you long. We want our freedom, ,and wish to defend our rights with force - and through such actions, reteach our culture the consequence of bad behaviour.

I'm very much a gun rights supporter, but Savage's logic is rather silly.

We have far more brutal murders here than in the UK.

Guns don't necessarily result in less violence, but that was never the primary reasoning for the right to bear arms.

Yeah except for the point of the thread. You lefties didn't have any guns up until you needed one. That's the point you need to respond to. If the police officers didn't have any gun at all you need to state what your idea would be to stop a criminal with one as was the case.

Sorry for the long response time. I was on vacation.

Yes logistics played a large role.

Oh also, some of your other lefties are using a much higher gun rate death than yours at 85 per day. Lets stick with that higher number. That means that you are twice as likely to die from someone's second hand smoke than you are from gunfire in the United States. I've already calculated the math in other threads. Using your stat at 18k your odds drop dramatically and are running around a lightning strike which I can also calculate if anyone wishes.
So Ill ask you since no had a cogent response. If smoking kills far more innocent people per day by a longshot where is the leftist fervor over this? ---Again using your numbers not mine.

A subject.Ok. Now perhaps you could explain how this quaint, anachronistic label is compromising me or my lifestyle in any negative way.

Nobody tried to shoot me with a cigarette yet. All our places of business, bars, clubs and restaurants, buses and trains etc., are now cigarette-free. It's very unlikely I'll die from inhaling someone else's smoke. Also, in view of the vanishingly small numbers of illegally acquired guns in circulation, it's equally unlikely I'll ever come across one, let alone be killed or injured by someone with a gun. What's the likelihood in America? I think the statistics speak for themselves.

It seems to be something extreme-right-wing Americans say when they've got nothing whatever to say. They are seeking a subject. Isn't that awful! :)

What I posted wasn't conjecture. It is a fact. You are more likely to die from second hand smoke than by gunshot. It is unlikely, that's the frank point! Its very unlikely you will die from second hand smoke but as a fact you are twice as likely to be killed from second hand smoke than by gunfire.
Or did you post erroneous statistics at 18k deaths?

Why are Britons, in your opinion, less 'free' than Americans simply because we don't want hundreds of millions of guns circulating? And note that I clearly said we don't want guns; this is a very important point, and nobody is clamouring for a repeal of our gun laws, nobody is lobbying Parliament for a repeal and our media is pretty much silent on the matter.
