We the People have the god-given right to endow our government with powers that the individual does not have.

Can't happen, because America is rated Food Secure. You can feed and house every citizen, indefinitely.

You've been reading too much dystopian fiction.

Good for you. America thanks you in advance for the additional burden you'll place upon her by behaving recklessly.

What does a worldwide pandemic have to do with individual American feelings and finances? Nothing, that's what.

When aliens invade earth, will you refuse to allow your Govt to fight back? Will you make your little stand, shaking your little fist at the mothership darkening your sky - because you want to go to the beach, or Disneyland, or Walmart - or because your mattress store is in the red?

Your comparison is far from reasonable. Did my question stump you?

On the contrary, it's actually a good analogy. This IS an 'alien' invasion of the entire planet.

Why would I listen to experts who say America is food secure? Experts have been extremely wrong lately.

    Nope. I decide.

While I admire the lengths you are willing to stretch to dodge a simple question, using fiction to justify government abuse of power actually supports my position.

    Heres my question again:

Give me one reason the owner of a hobby shop must close down under the threat of force while people can crowd Walmart to buy the exact same item?

Perhaps because they actually know about stuff you don't know about? Like food security.

Does it upset you to know that America is food secure? I can't think of any other reason why such information wouldn't be welcome.

You may have to ask Drumpf. Hazarding a guess, it could be because Walmart is a supermarket - and supermarkets were excluded from lock down pretty much everywhere. A hobby store is nowhere near 'essential', so there's plenty of logic in that decision.

The truth is that keeping the toy section of Walmart open while closing mom n pops shop, exposes more people to the virus. As a father, I would rather deal with someone I know and trust to keep things clean and sanitized.

Sadly, mom n pop does not have the power to stand up the the government. Walmart holds political power and crushes these little competitors with the complicity of the government and the support of people like you.

It's tricky. Our supermarkets also sell non-essentials (even a few toys), but given these areas often share aisles with the essentials it probably just wasn't workable to section off these larger stores.

I do agree that small speciality stores are increasingly being squeezed out of cities and suburbs, though. The stayers are those who own their buildings, but these days few in business consider that important.

The toy store fallacy is pathetic.

Then you should be able to answer my simple question. Give me one reason the owner of a hobby shop must close down under the threat of force while people can crowd Walmart to buy the exact same item?

Ask the state authorities, doofen. I am not in charge. And this is what you need to remember: neither are you.

Nice dodge, but you are incorrect. While you sit around waiting for the government to tell you what to do, I decide for myself. Many others are defying the thoughtless abuse of power by elected officials and opening their doors and getting out of the house. There are several threads on the subject.

Did my simple question stump you?

You're the one that called it a fallacy, then hide behind this beauty.

They can't answer why and they won't, just trust the government. It's becoming ridiculous when you think these "governments" are forcing the entire town's population into a few stores vs opening all the mom and pops and having crowds reduced at all stores. Common sense seems to be a problem for some.

Reading some of the posts in this thread reminds me why we need educated people and We the People governments.
