Whatever Russians do in their country is their business. Whether I support it or not is irrelevant. It's their business. You can get a life sentence in the USA, you are more likely to get killed in inner cities than in the combat etc...You could get 15 years....a modal verb...deterrent...Let me know when they put the law into practice.

Comparing crime to government sanctioned persecution just demonstrates your abilities to understand both concepts. ;)

If the information war was declared on the USA then you would understand the concept. Apples are apples, oranges are oranges. You don't get it, do you? There are certain rules during the peace, and completely different rules during the war times.

All the people you are using for examples are American politicians and they are really a very special example of humanity. We take people who have done very little but serve in positions of some privilege for all their lives and then elevate them far above even that; but we make that office contingent on their being absolute slaves and toadies of the most extreme elements of their supporters we can find. Is it any wonder that they dutifully become just that? The vast majority of us are not conservative politicians or even Republicans, we function as human beings not beaten dogs. Should our superiors suddenly require us to suffer greatly or even die for their greater good we at least consider whether they should maybe not be our superiors any longer before we dutifully go off to lay down our lives for them.

In a very real sense everything has to do with Trump. Trump created a unique situation in this country and we should be careful not to apply that situation to another nation, like Russia.

I don't think the Russian people are going to like going back to how they were before 1989

Or anyone who's actually loyal to him or is a blind nationalist while he's in power. It's obviously a very dangerous time to speak out about current events in Russia, more so than usual.

Just to bring a little realism into the thread, since so many are conditioned to repeat the same nonsense over and over again, I'm posting a translation of part of Putin's speech from a Greek site. It is probably the most of important speech he ever made in his life and most of it has to do with social adjustments in their society.

In the meantime, I read that the headquarters including the President Putin and Generals have moved to the Urals, which is not a good sign considering their nukes are on high alert.. Is Russia going to nationalize some of the oligarchs industries and could it be a warning to the US and Nato not to interfere in Russia's affairs?

The fifth phalanx, the national traitors, the pro-Western scum

Speaking at a meeting on socio-economic support measures for the regions, V.Putin argued that Russia should undergo "self-cleansing of society", in order to get rid of the "bastards and traitors".

Putin said the West is trying to divide Russia and provoke civil confrontation with the help of its "fifth phalanx." "And there is one goal, the destruction of Russia," he said, adding that Russia will repel such efforts.

"I am convinced that this natural and necessary self-cleansing of society will only strengthen our country, our solidarity, cohesion and our readiness to face any challenge."

As he pointed out, every people, especially the Russian one, "is able to distinguish the true patriots from the bastards and traitors and will spit them out like a gnat that accidentally flew in their mouths."

"The West failed to organize an 'economic blitzkrieg' against Russia, and now the world is witnessing the end of Western domination of politics and economics."

"In the near future, social payments to Russians will increase, businesses will have maximum freedom," he added. "The West would impose the sanctions anyway, it was just looking for the occasion," he said.

"The actions of westerners have also been a lesson for Russian businesses - there is nothing more credible than investing in your country," he added.

Regarding the reactions that exist within the country, he said that "the Russian people will always be able to distinguish the true patriots from the scum and traitors and simply spit them out like a pit."

The West is trying to break up Russian society, relying "on the so-called 'fifth phalanx', on national traitors, on those who earn money here, with us, but live there and 'live' not even in the geographical sense of the word, but according to their thoughts, in their slavish conscience."

"I do not condemn at all those who have a villa in Miami or the French Riviera, who cannot do without foie gras, oysters or the so-called gender freedoms < ... > This, in their opinion, is a sign that they belong to (what they consider) the "superior caste", the "superior breed".

Such people are ready to sell their mother only if they were allowed to sit in the hallway near this higher caste of people."

The Russian people will always be able to distinguish "true patriots from scum and traitors and simply spit them out like a pit."

"The Russian economy will definitely adapt to the new realities < ... > Of course, the new realities will require profound structural changes in our economy and, I will not hide it, they will not be easy, they will lead to a temporary increase in inflation and unemployment. In this situation, our task is to minimize such risks.

Now the authorities must ensure the availability of essential goods and medicines, as well as reduce poverty and inequality in the country: "This is a very feasible task even today." Even under the sanctions, Russia has enough revenue and "the Central Bank will not have to print money."

Just to put a little more realism into the thread for those who are conditioned to think otherwise, here's what Vladimir Putin said about Ukraine.

"...I want to say this for the first time, at the beginning of the operation in Donbass, the kiev authorities were asked through various channels not to engage in hostilities, but simply to withdraw their troops from the area in order to avoid senseless bloodshed. They didn't want to. Well, that's their decision. The operation proceeds successfully, according to the pre-approved plans..."

"...Our children, soldiers and officers show courage and heroism, they are doing everything in their power to avoid casualties to the civilian population of Ukrainian cities...."

"...The Ukrainian authorities on the other hand, struck indiscriminately, in the squares with the fanaticism and frenzy of the condemned, like the Nazis who in the last days of the Third Reich tried to drag as many innocent victims as possible with them to the grave..."

"...Russia launched an operation in Ukraine to help the inhabitants of Donbass, who had been subjected to real genocide for eight years, and to thwart the aggressive plans of Kiev, which was preparing for a scenario of violence, bloody slaughter and ethnic cleansing..."

"...Ukraine's desire to acquire nuclear weapons was also a real threat..."

I have to admit, Russian propaganda is fairly boring. I like Chinese propaganda better. It, at least, is passionate.

Hyperbole. Being canceled isn't half that bad for most people. You make too much of your "life" on social media

The real world is not controlled by social media. Remember that in 1989 Russia collapsed largely because the Army would not obey their orders to go against their own people. They haven't become any more loyal to the government since then and Putin is himself not a military man but more like a Party commisar in the old days but without the Party

Tell that to all those Americans who have been cancelled and their lives destroyed overnight just because they dared to express their own opinion.

Not everyone really cares about social media. Lots of people wouldn't even KNOW they were "canceled" let alone get all upset about it.

We're not all "influencers" or even know what that means.

You don't have to use social media to be cancelled. The democrats use, or better say abuse the social media to cancel people who dare to question their decisions and policies. They will go after anyone they perceive a threat.
