Gun sales have crossed into new and historic territory, averaging over 16 million sold annually as Americans who are concerned about violent crime arm up.

According to the FBI, the last three years have recorded new highs in gun sales and background checks.

In 2022, the FBI this week said that it handled 31.5 million applications in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, which includes an estimated 16.4 million gun sales. The rest are for other security checks, including for concealed carry permits.

No cash bail, defund the cops, catch & release... this should surprise no one. As federal courts have affirmed time after time, law enforcement has no duty to protect. Most recently in 2018 when the 11th Circuit upheld a lower court ruling that authorities had no constitutional duty to protect any of the students at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas in Parkland, since they were not in custody.

And as we learned at Uvalde: When seconds count, police are 78 minutes away. Even when they're onsite.

Here's a useful resource if you're considering a ccw: USCCA Concealed Carry Reciprocity Map & U.S. Gun Laws | USCCA (usconcealedcarry.com)

Love it. If you’re gonna CC, get training! The more you train the less likely you are to be a really good loot drop for someone else. Follow the 4 rules and then train some more!

    Guns in the news again.

Data for the year 2020 show 45,000 deaths by gunshot in the United States of America in that year.* Averaging that around the clock over a year's time, it's a death by gunshot every 12-13 minutes. These are deaths which our present laws and their level of enforcement, coupled with our social programs, were unable to stop.

Death by gunshot is now one of the leading causes of death in children in the United States.

A gunshot death, with rare exceptions, requires three components: a gun, a shooter and a bullet. If any one of the three is missing, the death will not normally occur.

    Guns in the news again.

    Regards, stay safe 'n well . . . 'n un-shot.

That's 22,500 criminals shot in the act of committing crimes.

    Loving it.

    Hi, SiNNiK.

Do you have a reference for that figure?

And the children? What about the children?

    Nice.

In the meanwhile, we had 10 people shot last night at a Miami Gardens restaurant. Didn't even make the national news.

The OP insists its all because of defund the cops, catch & release etc, but is that really the cause in Florida, or anywhere considering practically all LE spending has been increased, not decreased. Parroting fake political talking points isn't going to fix the violence issue in US.

More than half the gun deaths (54%) are suicide, not homicide. 13% of homicides are gang related. Accidental gun deaths are trivially rare (less than 1%). Knowing that mass shootings are committed by sociopaths, that suicidal people have mental issues and that gangs are a criminal problem, it is clear that the shooter is the place to work on your three components. The guns and ammunition can do nothing by themselves. If the murderers had no access to firearms they would use other methods for murdering. Guns are simply the most convenient. Getting sociopaths away from society and more effective law enforcement are the best solutions to gun deaths. There is probably nothing we can do about suicide but guns are the most convenient method here as well.

Obama's CDC Gun Violence Study states that defensive gun uses happen as often as offensive gun uses. Half those that are shot, probably more, are shot in defense of the victim.

    Loving it.

As for the children, enroll them in the NRA's Eddie Eagle program.

    Hi, fmw.

Thank you for taking time to read my post and reply. While opinions are interesting, they do not reduce the annual death toll due to gunshot by a single death. It is only through taking action based on sound data that we may at some time in the future see a significant improvement.

    Regards, stay safe 'n well . . . 'n un-shot.

I agree. My point was that attacking the gun won't help. You need to deal with the people.

Because it sounded totally made up, and apparently it was. I'm all for people arming themselves for self-defense, but why make up stuff?

The US government is the biggest arms sales dealer. How many of those guns come back across the US illegally? There is no accountability for weapons being sold to Ukraine and that is just a small portion of the sale of arms by the US and you're concerned about law abiding citizens buying guns?

    Can you provide that report.

My numbers are from combines info from:

    - Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
    - Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR)
    - Program’s Supplementary Homicide Report (SHR)
    - Bureau of Justice Statistics’ National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS)

Referring to CDC isn't much of an argument. You would do better with an organization with actual credibility.
