We have poured billions in military aid to Ukraine starting in 2014, so the "why did we wait" argument is somewhat clueless. The funds were re-directed from our aid to Pakistan to Ukraine.

Too bad those sanctions are doing nothing to stop the attack!

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Putin has spent the last 10 years getting ready for international sanctions. Also, we’re, the good old USA are still buying oil from Russia. That hasn’t been touched. We don’t buy that much, rougly 3% of our oil, but we’re still buying it, Ukraine and all. There much more to this as it isn't cut and dried.

This would probably be a good time to start shipping the kinds of weapons that can blunt this kind of invasion to other nations close to Russia.

What damage has been done to Russia? The ruble got crushed. Big Deal. Russia has been preparing for this eventuality for the last eight years, and they have created a cheaper way to field a military campaign due to the setbacks they experienced in 2014-2016. The source in the OP is absurd media propaganda in which the author and the poster demonstrates a complete lack of geopolitical understanding.

The sanctions on Russia came to let to have their desired effect on the Russian economy, and the blowback from the invasion and sanctions is having terrible impacts on the global economy. Our allies in Africa and the ME have people that are starving, because 30% of wheat comes from Ukraine and Russia, and the situation is worsening due to the fact that some countries receive a majority or a totality of their agricultural soil and chemicals from the Black Sea. Food and Energy Prices in the US are rising to economically catastrophic levels, and I'm hearing stories of student, car, and mortgage loan defaults.

The reality is that Russia has crippled, completely intimidated, or made inroads with, many of our important allies like Turkey, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, India, etc., because the US and it's European Allies have proven to be unreliable partners mired by starry-eyed, idealistic left-wing, and corrupt, politicians that pull out of military agreements and share secret intelligence with our enemies. We need our economic and defense allies to provide support, and it doesn't help when our current administration starts their administration by pulling out of a military agreement with the Saudis while calling them vermin, and it certainly doesn't help when you have John Kerry running to the Iranians with Israeli and Indian Intelligence Reports. And then this idiotic Administration gave US Intelligence on Russia to their Ally (China), because apparently he's a complete ****. Even in WW2, the United States and UK needed to help the Stalin Regime against the Third Reich, and the allies would have most assuredly lost the war in Europe had Russia not beaten the Nazis on the Eastern Front. If it makes you uncomfortable to work with mass murderers and violators of human rights, then you have nothing valid to bring to the discussion. https://theblacksphere.net/2022/02/impeach-46-biden-shared-intel-with-china/

It's been a slog for the Russians over the first couple of weeks due to the relative lack of mobility in comparison with the Ukrainians, but they have picked up the pace of advancement into Ukraine by bombing and capturing Ukrainian Military energy infrastructure and supplies. This isn't Iraq or Afghanistan. The Ukrainians have a well-trained army of 250,000 and 350,000 reservists. They have advanced technologies. For god sakes, they have nuclear reactors. Of course this war was going to be a tough one for the Russians. Those that believed the Ukrainians are some rag-tag Civilian Army with poor weaponry and training is just one of many lemmings that rots their mind with fake news from Fox, CNN, and MSNBC. Go watch the Caspian Report on Youtube. That guy has been studying geopolitics for a decade, and he's extremely well sourced. Anything that comes from a media outlet is complete trash.

cause we did not know if Ukraine would fight or turn tail and run like the Afghan Army did

we did give them weapons, but now that we know they will stay and fight, were willing to help more

Hopefully it is far worse than even he could have anticipated. Certainly the Ukrainians intend to resist to the point of open insurgency even if the war was lost to bleed Russia’s eco only into enough ruin as to make an occupation financially impossible.

Neither party can lead a divided nation when the other side doesn't want to meet half way

Right now it’s the party in power unwilling to meet halfway or compromise on any issue except maybe finally support for Ukraine and Taiwan.
