"SCIENCE!" Did Teachers Union Input at CDC Cross a Line?

“One detail not disclosed at the time: The AFT had a hand in crafting the guidelines. On May 1, The New York Post broke the news of emails between the union and the CDC, obtained by the conservative watchdog group Americans for Public Trust, showing that the CDC had consulted with the teachers union, and that two suggestions from the AFT had been incorporated, almost verbatim, into the final document.”

There is such a thing as student council, you are aware of that right? Literally by middle school, the youth become aware of the political spectrum of reality. Of course, at that point it's minor things such as homework or what the price should be at the school store, but they are made aware of civic life.

The attitude that you have(and it's the attitude that most parents had to be perfectly fair), is one of the reasons we have this current state of affairs. Unlike the Europeans, we don't have a very active civic awareness. Our political thoughts are barely nuanced, if at all and as a result we've had the ever declining quality of our Presidents.

If there's an area to copy off of Europeans, its the youth political brigade groups. Get them involved, get them involved early in the process. Educate, don't indoctrinate.

Disagree completely. Especially your conclusion, which is 180 degrees out of whack, IMO. Simply put, the nature of politics provides for indoctrination of adults, as is readily apparent. Children cannot be educated in politics. The nuances of partisanship are beyond their understanding, for all but the most gifted. Attempting to teach a child something he hasn't the capacity to understand can only result in indoctrination.

Now, let's be clear here; politics is what I'm discussing, because politics is the issue. What you describe is government. I didn't see student council until high school, and they were a small, insignificant group. Most of us didn't care about government. I was a year older than this boy when Nixon beat Humphrey. The Tadelski girls carried handmade Nixon signs. We all knew what the election was about, and we all supported who our parents supported. We were 11. If one of us got up and acted like this kid, the nuns would have had their way with him.

Masks are science. Trump made them political as well. The word "hypocrisy" in this case is inherently political. This is politics, from the mouth of a 10 year old boy, who, incontrovertibly, has been indoctrinated.

Begs the question: Why do the Europeans feel their children are mature enough to handle it, and not us? What's the difference in the EU way of life compared to the Americans, and in this regard is the US truly better?
