Even before last Thursday’s indictment in United States v. Donald Trump, public speculation swirled about whether the former president had taken classified documents not just to Mar-a-Lago but also to his residence and golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey. The indictment answered that question with a bang while presenting a new puzzle about why Trump isn’t facing even steeper charges.”

“According to the Justice Department and a taped recording of the former president, Trump took classified records from Mar-a-Lago to Bedminster, where he showed off the contents of such records to others. The indictment alleges that Trump showed a map to a political ally and also showed a writer and a publisher a secret military plan to attack Iran. These two episodes were arguably the most egregious allegations of criminal wrongdoing mentioned in the indictment; they allege not just the improper retention of our nation’s most highly classified information, but the intentional communication of such information.”

“But these two allegations raise a question: Why did Special Counsel Jack Smith charge Trump with illegal retention of classified documents but not with dissemination of such materials? And is that decision final, or could dissemination charges still be in the works?”

“The Miami indictment conspicuously excludes many facts surrounding Trump’s actions in Bedminster: what boxes were taken there, what they contained, how they were kept at the golf club. This silence suggests that there might be more to come from the famously hard-charging Smith”

Given that Trump’s army of attorneys postpone, delay, and appeal everything and anything, which obviously Trump’s strategy to push it all past 2024, if Judge Cannon in Florida aids Trump’s team will Smith file more charges, more serious charges, against Trump in New Jersey?

I am sure they will work feverishly to incarcerate/bankrupt trump any way they can. It will be interesting to see how they allow access to top secret documents to lawyers. Do they declassify the docs, or give the lawyers security clearance?

Hasn’t Trump’s lawyers, and who knows how many other people, already seen the documents

And forget the martyr role, Trump isn’t being picked on, you, as Trump is, trying to separate the legal from the political, even right wing talking heads as Turley are admitting Trump’s actions raise serious questions as to legality

Both sides will have these documents. That means declassifying or giving lawyers security clearance. That makes it hard to claim this is about security.

As far as making this about me, I dislike trump and have never voted for him. This is making him appear as a martyr to his supporters and adds weight to his words. I didnt listen to him when he was pres, but I did look to see his response.

I would feel the same way if they dug up docs in the obamas mansion, bidens garage, or hillary's server. Its not good for the country. I did not bleat with the "lock her up" lemmings and will not be joining this crowd either.

Trump disrespected the worldwide ruling class. This is what you get for daring to do that. You get yourself arrested and possibly jailed.

Fact lawyers have to have security clearance to view what documents the DOJ have in evidence. It's a process not a defense.

Who told you that ? The classification of a document by the federal government IS documented and the contents don't matter, the status of the document matters. When you are n trial for murder it doesn't matter how you did it, it matters THAT you did it ;)

The funny thing here is that their is a process to classify, and declassify documents, thats how they know they are classified ;) Gunna be fun watching the right wingers see that the documents WEREN’T declassified thru the legal process, therefore they are still classified, and Trump may go to jail for that. This will throw a lot of water on the fires of “he declassified them” speeches…..

Oh, Im sure there are many ways to nail him. My question was if the docs must be declassified or if lawyers get security clearance. The contents can't be that sensitive if you want trumps lawyers getting the info. I am far from being a right winger. I never bleated with the "lock her up" lemmings and would feel the same way if the Obama mansion was raided and such documents were discovered.

I think we’re gonna find it wasn’t raised until they realized he was trying to hide stuff and showing things to people who didn’t have clearance….which would certainly increase their sense of urgency

Yes, of course. Show them only what helps the case and redact anything that would help the defense.

Im not letting him off the hook. I just feel that this will back fire for both parties and the country. One day, reps and dems will wear red or blue and treat each other like the crips and bloods.

TRaitor tRump may have to hire an attorney WITH a security clearance. That’ll cost his supporters.

Yea see your post can't even be taken as a comment from a serious person rather comes across as some fringe level partisan. No one with any credibility at all has suggested trump was a traitor. Leave it to the fringe to divide spewing ignorance and losing all credibility.

Is there anything you’d support arresting a former president over that you wouldn’t feel that way about? I can see that argument as it relates to the NYC indictment, that was a stretch.

So in order to protect our national secrets, we give trumps lawyers access. Brilliant! I dislike the guy and would never vote for him. This ensures I will never vote for a Dem again. Leave it to dems to make someone as awful as trump electable.

Absolutely. Unfortunately, theft is perfectly legal once elected!

He definitely fits the definition of a traitor.

    traitor - noun
1: one who betrays another's trust or is false to an obligation or duty

Repeatedly throughout his life, not just to The United States but, to almost everyone he's done business with.
