Our murder rate in the US for just knives is about the same as your entire murder rate. We have a violence problem, not a gun problem.

Consider Wyoming has a firearm ownership rate of 66% with very few firearm related laws. Their homicide rate is around 1/100,000. Illinois has a firearm ownership rate of about 28% with all kinds of restrictions on firearms. Their homicide rate is over 12/100,000.

I can’t understand how you folks can preach causal relationships between firearms availability and homicide rates when in so many cases there is an inverse correlation. If your theories were sound, Wyoming would have one of the highest homicide rates in the US instead of one of the lowest.

well the death penalty has a lot in common with the gun control movement. Proponents of both claim the laws will stop crime and both are wrong. the one advantage death penalty advocates have is that those executed never commit another crime. and yes, another similarity is that the laws often punish the innocent-the difference being is that the DP is not designed to punish the innocent but that sometimes happens. Gun control laws-as fashioned by the left-are DESIGNED to punish those who don't commit crimes with guns

My problem with the death penalty as a deterrent is that when the murderer is finally executed many years/decades later no one remembers him. I think the DP should be swiftly carried out when there is NO DOUBT who committed the murder, the rest of the DP cases can be handled in the current inefficient way.

 

The two minors involved in this shooting were hit with gun related charges.

depends on the safe. some of my hard core shotgun competitors have safes in their trucks that are bolted to the cargo bed and are pretty stout. I used to keep a small instant access safe in my car-worthless if someone breaks in but it was CYA for traveling-if it was locked up it met the requirements for traveling through hostile states like Illinois for traveling. I have seen some safes that have like a bike cable that you secure to say a seat or the part of the trunk that opens and closes the lid-they can be defeated with bolt cutters.
