Dont be a simpleton.. The U.S Government holds great sway over Columbia Honduras Mexico, Panama.. they used to hold great sway over Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Venezuela, Uruguay.. but hey got smart and kicked out the puppet governments the U.S set up there.

The U.S doesnt pratice Imperialism in the old fashioned way England and Spain used too.

The U.S pratices hegemony. Instead of taking a territory and claiming it officially.. they instead topple the government.. install a puppet government that will do its bidding and get that government dependent on handouts. It was done in Egypt and Iraq and Israel the Philippines, Indonesia etc.. ( of course Israel turned out to be the tail that wagged the dog LOL).

To say that the U.S doesnt involve itaself in influencing and exploiting weaker nations through intimidation and force is hugely disingenuous. You can call it what ever you want.. just because it isnt imperialism by strict definition doesnt mean it is much different. In the end the difference between hegemony and imperilaism is akin to the difference between date-rape with rohypnol or date-rape without rohypnol
