I don't know what to think about this. If I were Jewish I wouldn't live anywhere near Iran. I have nothing against Iranians, per se. I've worked with them, and found them to be a lovely, very civilized, generally well-educated people. But, that F'd-up religion of theirs keeps so many of them mired in the 10th Century.

Very interesting read, and most unexpected. I have always understood that Islam is supposed to have a special regard for "People of the Book", which ostensibly would include Jews and Christians, as well as Muslims. What an enigma Iranian Islam is if it tolerates and protects Jews in its midst, on the one hand, and yet, through its government, calls for the destruction of the heart of Judaism in Israel.

It is tantalizing to think how much better life could be for all of us if we really could practice forebearance and civility toward each other, everwhere in this world.

Well at least you're displaying a modicum of perception on this issue-something which cannot be said of the virulent anti-Muslims here. It shouldn't be beyond most people to understand from those links that Iran's issues are with the regime in Israel, and it's policies vis-a-vis the Palestinians, and not with the Jewish people. But naturally we only ever hear one side because of America's arrangement with Israel. Conversely it really doesn't take much effort to learn the truth.

Yes, Iran's theocratic leadership is flaky at best and can be downright belligerent, cruel and vindictive at its worst; but wouldn't you be if your nation was surrounded, literally, by those who have made it clear they are your enemies?
