Of the former Communist bloc countries, which country is considered most successful. Which is least successful? How is Eastern Europe over all?

    None.
No country is better than 20 years ago, unemployment, crime, mafia, drug abuse, alchool problems, famine, homless people, prostitution all higher than 20 years ago.

The answer is Georgia and by a long way .
It's success embarrasses Putrid which is one of the reasons he is so desperate to get it back . It is the birth place of his idolised Stalin and where he grew up as a youngster before going to St Petersburg when he was 9 .

Probably the most insipid and jealousy attempted defence I have seen .

    " No , Georgia isn't a 100 places above Russia because , blah di blah da .
No Georgia isn't really as well improved there because , blah di blah da "

Give it a rest . Whatever the reasons and circumstances , Georgia is the most improved and thriving ex USSR state by a long way .
And Saakashvili is a very intelligent , smart , savvy and charming guy . Gets mostly he wants from the US , and the EU love him and would love him more if they were not scared of Putrid tantrums .
Learn to give credit where it is due , Evil , and stop reading politically motivated clap trap .

It is noted and of course I was aware of it .
But it does not affect the clear and obvious conclusion , for example , that Georgia is out performing Russia and other ex USSR by the proverbial mile .
You can argue until you are blue in the face , but Georgia is winning the race , however many hard luck stories you wish to produce about other runners .

    Whine , Bleat , Tears , Anger
"Georgia has had help and favours"
    Of course it has .
Who wants to give favours to a rude , mannerless oaf like Lavrov and a dwarf psychopath like Putin ?
Part of Government is working with other people who like and trust you .
Marks for Russia in these areas ?
    Zero .

GNP per capita is three times less than in Russia. It's really big achievement, especially if to take into account that Georgia was one of the richest republics of USSR. You are the good joker raymondo.

    Potato ,
    Georgian GDP growth in '05 -'07 was between 9% and 12% .
In '06 and '08 the World Bank named Georgia as the top reformer in the world .( DID YOU READ THAT ? )
Do you know better than them , Potato ?
Let's look at foreign investment , the best way of assessing future performance . Look at Georgia !!
Is Russia even in the picture ? Terrible performance .
Since those figures , money has come out of Russia as though it was diseased . People do not trust Mad Dog Putrid .
No , Russia has everything to learn from Mikheil Saakashvili .

    Foreign direct investment in Georgia

Large inflows of Foreign direct investment (FDI) have been a driving factor behind a rapid economic growth in Georgia since 2003.In 2007 alone the economy of Georgia attracted $1,7 billion in FDI, bringing the total FDI stock to $5,2 billion, which is over 50% of the GDP
The table below shows FDI stock as a percentage of GDP in selected FSU countries. For statistical purposes, FDI is defined as a foreign company owning 10% or more of the ordinary shares of an incorporated firm or its equivalent for an unincorporated firm.
Rank Country FDI stock as a percentage of GDP (2007)
    1 Estonia 78,0
    2 Georgia 51,1
    3 Kazakhstan 41,9
    4 Ukraine 27,0
    5 Armenia 26,6
    6 Russian Federation 25,1
    7 Belarus 10,0
The major recipients of FDI in Georgia are the telecommunications industry, transportation sector, production and distribution of electricity, and construction.

GDP per capita at 2011. Russia 16,687. Ukraine 7,198. Georgia 5,430. These are facts, not empty words. The loss of the huge Russian market for Georgia affects anyway. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita

czech republic was successful for many reasons. It had schools, health institutions and technical engineering firms unlike other places that lack those amenities.

At the present moment, czechs are losing their status since they are a landlocked country.

None of the former Soviet Republics has a very good standard of living.
Poland is probably the best, but only because of the trade and integration with Western Europe. Estonia is also doing well because of the trade with Finland (the finns sympathise with them because they are both essentially of the same ethnicity, similar language). Poverty and alcoholism remains a problem in the Ukraine and Russia.

I agree with you. Poland's currency the zlotney has resisted the inflation from europe and fares better than any other currency.

Estonians differ from the Finns.... I don't think the estonians speak suomi.

Suomi is the name for Finland in the finnish language.

Definitely the Czech Republic is one of the most successful of the post-Communist states. They have the stable economy and pretty high standard of living. The level of crime is relatively low there. Typical small and quiet European country.
