it's about time the closed minded bigots got out of the marriage business. the goverment has no right to regulate the most personal of personal relationships.

    Why Not ?

Why not polygamy, group marriage or any combination of consenting adults as they choose to join?
Currently, the law has created a tyranny of monogamy.

I love the irony that Utah was basically given the ultimatum to abolish polygamy in order to join the Union and now a Federal judge from that same Union has basically struck that whole thing down.

Interesting. By that logic any gay people who are religious should also be able to marry. I assume this means religious gay people can marry in Utah, right?

So lets say that 10 men marry 10 women altogether in a group marriage and it is sanctioned by the federal government as OK. Lets say that 10 babies are produced. All the mothers had sex with all of the 10 men so none of them knows who the fathers is and they do not care because it is a big giant group community. Lets also say the children are passed around from house to house in this giant community group marriage. Lets say that 5 of the women decide this is for the birds and they wish to divorce the other 15 people they are married to.

How would custody be figured out and who would pay child support?

Should the rich be able to take all the women like they've taken all the money? Should we live like the Arabs, with sheiks having huge harems? Not the kind of society I want. The have/have not divide is far too great already.

    So?
    I don't see your problem.
I see a problem that my Illegal's daughter who I have known since she was in High School - now in her early 20's
Got herself knocked up and of course "No aborto!"
Who can take care of their kids?

Still I say, Yes to Group Marriage of any combination of consenting adults.
End the Tyranny of Monogamy !

Just going to quote myself from another thread here...

Because after all, "I'm afraid I won't be able to get a woman if polygamy is legalized" is not a legal argument.

Who is the parent of the one child? It would seem to me that the parent is all 20 people. They were married all together.

Rofl. If women want to exchange their marital eligibility for wealth, why shouldn't they be allowed to?

Do you want to know the biological parent or the socially recognized parent? The former is easy to determine, the second may not be.

California has made it legal for a child to have more than two parents, so you are probably right. Mass-child support systems and legal polygamy are probably the future for the United States.

That is a very unlikely future.

Why is that? Group child support already exists in California and polygamy is now legal in Utah. It seems quite feasible that the two will merge at some point.

Well, if the same thing that happened to wealth happened to wives, then half of the population of America would be competing for the bottom 2.5% of women. Doesn't leave much for the rest of us.

Given that everything that may happen eventually will happen, if such multiple partner marriage were made legal then it is likely that we could have huge mass marriages ala a commune. Perhaps hundreds of people all married. Who gets custody in a divorce? Who pays alimony and who pays child support?

So Utah will have group child support and California will have polygamy. So what? That isn't all of America by a stretch

I didn't say all of America.

I don't know, but if you combined California's laws with the effective legalization of polygamy, the most obvious possibility is that the biological mother would get custody and they would all jointly be liable for child support.

Which is fascinating if you think about it. It may not be too long before courts in California are seeing a repeat of Solomon having to decide which woman is a child's mother and gets custody of the child. I think it would be a powerful symbol but unfortunately there is nothing that can convince the left that we are moving backwards.

A lot of people want to legalize prostitution too...

Personally I am getting ready for the expat life. I won't miss them and they won't miss me, though they will certainly come to miss my money and skills.

In this eventuality Hillary Clintons words of "It takes a village" will certainly come true. Karl Marx would be overjoyed.

So the 'united states' to which you referred is only part of America

    So what?

How is that moving backwards? I'm not left wing.

It's moving backwards because the King Solomon story was an issue from over a thousands of years ago and our new laws will see us revisiting it in essentially the same context some years from now.
