LOL, you would think she would love soccer considering how its the most popular sport even in the most white European countries and has been for years.

EVERY column by Ann Coulter is the worst you've ever read. Her writing style resembles an ADD kid without his Ritalin.

By that measure Ronald Reagan has a bigger body count. But, of course, which president has killed more people isn't even the subject of this thread. Just another tiresome attempt from cons to direct every subject towards Obama.:confusion:

Yeah racist ranchers and racist NBA owners are on that list. Pretty much anyone racist....

Who really cares what type of flopping occurs. Flopping happens far more often in a single American sport than it does in Soccer, which is a global sport.

Coulter is properly disrespectful of lying progressives but I really think she's wandered off the trail when it comes to football (soccer, if you will). Netherlands vs. Mexico this morning was one of the best sporting events of any kind I've seen in years (made better by Mexico having their hearts ripped out and stomped on by the Dutch team).

I know from Portland and their major league soccer team there is a virulent hard core who have slavishly picked up all the affectations of European football crowds, like the newbie suck up poseurs they are (out of disdain for America, I assume)
but by and large, the World Cup has been a decent watch and soccer is at least as watchable as sitting through a Cubs-Padres double header.

I managed to catch that game around the 80 minute mark.

Needless to say, there are some very sad Mexican fans right now.

The wind bag Mexican coach has literally blamed the loss on a conspiracy to keep Mexico down by FIFA officials. A massive case of sour grapes.

Mexico is a really good team that can't seem to get a break when it comes to the World Cup. They've lost to Argentina (one of the favourites to win) in the first round of knockouts, twice (World Cup 2010 and 2006). Then somehow manages to lose to the US in the 2000 World Cup, due to Captain being banned from the game for a foul he committed. This all happened within the last decade.

After losing a game like this, it really isn't uncommon for any excuse to be made.

A massive conspiracy against the Mexican football team? That's not an excuse...it's paranoid lunacy.

Supposedly in extra time Robben took a dive in the penalty box and the referee gave him a gift penalty kick though in the first half Robben was knocked down by two Mexican defenders in the penalty box and got nothing for his mugging.
The Mexican coach has yet to reference that!

It has always been a working-class sport and the working class in Britain traditionally voted Labour. Oddly enough I also like Rugby which is a middle-class sport. I quite like Formula 1 motor racing which is the sport of the one percenters. What was your point again?

In the US it has always been a sport that is played by junior high school girls. I would imagine though if there was big money in it in the US a lot more people would play.

There's a hell of a lot of money in Association Football. Wayne Rooney who plays for Manchester United earns £300,000 a week...

I'm against all flopping. It's pathetic and lame. But soccer players take flopping to a new level. It's probably the saddest spectacle in all of sports. And they do it just to waste time. In basketball, you can't run out the clock by crying on the floor for two minutes. That's why soccer must change its time parameters, because the current system incentivizes players to waste time by faking injuries and crying like little girls. If the ball goes out of bounds, the clock should stop and restart when it's thrown back in play; if a foul is called, again, the clock should stop and play should resume once the ball is put back in play; injuries should cost the player's team a timeout, and timeouts can only be called while the ball is in your possession; and once time expires, THE GAME SHOULD BE OVER. No more of this confounded "injury time" to make up for all the early faking and goldbricking. Soccer is the only sport where the clock just keeps running no matter what is happening on the field. That is why soccer games are thought to be so boring by most Americans, because once someone scores, the game's time-flow encourages them to just hold onto the ball and fake injuries. Nobody wants to watch a bunch of guys passing the ball around and taking two minutes to walk off the field after a fake injury.

The NFL is a one hour game that is stretched out to three hours because the clock is stopped. I don't like team sports in general, but soccer is much more watchable.

regarding the Mexico loss yesterday. It is always disappointing when the outcome of an important match is determined by the poor performance of the officials rather than the good performance of the competitors. The penalty call that resulted in the winning goal was a bad call. The Dutch player ran into the previously planted foot of a Mexican player and he then tripped over it. His fault.

regarding the level of futbol skill in the USA, I would merely point to the '91 and '99 women's world cup victories and the '12 olympic victory as debunking that myth.

I think soccer players are probably the most well-conditioned atheletes around. That field is huge and they never stop moving.

That was a shaky call, and I thought the officiating in the Colombia-Brazil match was even worse. It looked like the fix was in.

However, everyone knows that you should never put yourself or your team in a position where officiating can determine the outcome of a game.

Our women are fantastic. They're a lot more fun to watch than the men...
