I believe you correct in your thinking @Moolk that the defund/dismantle movement is over and it certainly is a victory for the right.

I don't really see this as any kind of victory for the right; this is more like nature reasserting itself. If the left decided they wanted to repeal the law of gravity, and people started getting hurt or killed by jumping off roofs or cliffs, the left would argue that you simply are not smart enough to understand all the nuances involved in repealing gravity, and the work continues.

    Difference.
You might defund services that are intentionally distorting the purpose of their job, because it's stupid to pay them for intentional failure and subverting their duty to political goals.
FBI agent Strozok for example, planned to prevent Trump's election and having a back-up plan if Plan A failed.... and not unknown to his superiors, completely documented, and hardly the only such incident of intentionally using the power of the agency for political manipulation. Nor does it mean you do away with those agencies; but until you clean them up, they will continue to fail the nation if you don't clamp down on that ability. The failure there isn't the rank and file, it was in the upper structure that allowed or promoted such conduct. They are the ones responsible for keeping things clean.

Police weren't trying to avoid their job, they were trying to do it- and still are. The failure was on the side of those wanting to reduce the ability of the police to function- not improve it.
They got their way in many places, and the sheer stupidity of that action can be seen in the exploding crime stats and violence.
You don't defund services that are doing the best they can but have failures; you support and improve them.

The places that are now deciding defunding was a mistake have done damage that will be a long time healing. The loss of trust, where an officer can believe they are working in a kind of partnership with the city is gone. Many cities have made themselves adversaries of their own police forces, and now are not able to attract quality applicants to rebuild their police departments because of the abusive environment they created. In some cases- no applicants at all, and they are dropping the standards to qualify.... Ensuring that their police force will be substantially more troubled than before.
Can't blame the cops; I'd certainly not be willing to work for people like that.

It’s a perspective I suppose. But it’s true that the left wanted to defund and the right opposed it. Now virtually everyone, minus some radical blm types, have moved on away from defund.

So they were wanting the police department reformed due to the staggering number of excessive police brutality that the DOJ found and move it to being more of community policing.

Do tell, if they were completely removing all funding from the police — how would the community police have been funded? Volunteers?

You basically just stated the actual goal of these “defund the police” movements — reform. Not removal.

Incorrect, reform has a very specific meaning. As does defund. Nothing subjective about it.

When some police departments actually got defunded, the left cheered…they didn’t say “wait that’s not what we meant”.

Nor did anything in the post you quoted do what you claim lol.

    Your revisionist history isn’t flying.

What leftists don't realize is how this is going to blow up in their faces on a major scale.

All of the "good" cops in places like NYC, Seattle, Portland, SF, LA and other **** holes have either left for another state, retired, or just quit.

The result? They can't fill the vacancies.

What do the cities do? They lower their hiring standards to fill the vacancies.

In Illinois, they're giving a gun and a badge to ****ing illegal aliens now to police US citizens.

Want to talk about violent cops and corruption that don't give a ****? Just wait.

    I dunno.

They seem pretty interested in policing school board meetings.

yeah, sending unarmed, untrained firemen into a dangerous situation is a great idea.

it's the cops that are untrained to had medical issues

the cops would still be there, same as with a call for a fire, just the professionals would handle it and the police if they needed assistance

Do you think we all fail to remember the defund police movement in its early days?

Once the rest of what's left of the sane progressives started asking them what the f*** are they thinking.... They started walking it back.

You might not remember but me and pepperidge farms and everyone that doesn't have a Democrat bias sure as hell does

I do remember the early days. And there were plenty of folks on the left saying the same thing....the word defund is not the right one to use. The sentiment was good but the word was easy pickins for the Right. Same as Black Lives Matter. If they had only added 'too' to the end of that, it wouldn't have been able to be used against them.
