Do you have to play every week?

I'm in the Navy and I work in Research and Development and sometimes I go to sea for a 2 to 3 week stint for testing and evaluation of crews and new computer technology. So I will miss some Sundays.

Ah I understand. You see, you draft your team once - right before the start of the NFL season. Once your roster is complete, you set your starting lineups each week. For the first couple weeks, there are no bye weeks, so you don't necessarily have to make any roster moves, but from week 4 until week 13 I think, each NFL team will have a bye week, and with the bye week go the players on that team.

If you did want to give fantasy a try, what you could do is whenever you know you'll be away from Yahoo for multiple weeks, make sure none of your starting players have upcoming bye weeks. If, for example, you knew you were going to miss week 6 and 7 but have a starting WR with a week 6 bye, and a starting RB with a week 7 bye, you could put both of those players on the bench and start a WR with a bye week that is either several weeks away (perhaps week 9 or 10) or has already passed. Same goes for the RB in this example.

You can also drop players (in other words, cut them from your team) and replace the dropped players with someone off of the waiver list (which is simply the list of players who aren't on anyone else's team).

It sounds complicated on paper, but makes a lot more sense once you start playing. Last year was the first year I ever tried fantasy football, and I was definitely a little unsure of everything, but after a week or two, it'll all come together and make a lot of sense.

Hope that helps, and regardless of what you decide, thanks for your service.

I have just edited the league settings slightly. Everyone's starting lineup will include:

    1 QB
    3 WRs
    2 RBs
    1 TE
    1 W/R (WR or RB)
    1 K
    1 D

Plus six bench (BN) players. You can have any combination of skill positions filling your bench, but you can only have six players (or defenses) on the bench. Also, I removed the injured reserve (IR) slot, so you don't have to worry about that.

Thank you very much for your "thanks for your service" quote. :)

Thanks for the info about FF, it doesn't sound too complicated but I think I'll pass this time around. I would like to play but I also want to be a quality member and right now my schedule will prevent me from being that.. :)

    Thanks, NC.

Sounds a bit complicated...but I like complicated things like this. I am really looking forward to this.

Hope I do not screw up...but sometimes, that is the only way to learn.

You can't do any worse than my first shot at fantasy! Don't even ask....

You'll get the hang of it real quickly. It sounds a lot more complicated on paper, but once you get into the flow of the game, it becomes pretty straightforward.

I'm down. I prefer NFL.com, but it doesn't really matter much.

So sorry, I had already set the league up with Yahoo. NFL.com was my second choice, but those of us who voiced our opinions decided on Yahoo, and now it's a little too late to change everything over to NFL.com.

Anyway, thanks for joining! In case you or any of the others didn't see in one of my earlier posts, the draft is set for Wednesday, Sept 7th, at 8:00 PM EST.

Im big on ESPN myself. Just did our PPR money league draft last night. I think I am pretty solid for picking 5th.

    AJ Green
    Alshon Jeffery
    Sammy Watkins
    Thomas Rawls
    Latavius Murray
    Russel Wilson
    Colby Fleener
    Sterling Shepherd
    Darren Sproles
    Kamar Aiken
    Christine Michael
    Lequan Treadwell
    Josh Doctson
    Raiders Def
    Aguayo
    Derek Carr

Yeah im hoping some rookie WR's do some damage lol. Either that or make me some trade bait.

Wow...You must not be in a very competitive league lol. I can't believe you managed to get so much value out of your draft!

No our league is pretty serious, it's $200 a person and been going on for over 10 years in which I finally got to join 4 years ago. You have to win the $50 league just to be considered. This is PPR, not regular rules as well. Plus remember, everything looks good on paper before the league starts, fantasy football is 80% luck and 20% research. Anything can happen. If anything were to happen to one of my rb's where I am pretty weak I could be in for some harsh battles.

Ohhhh okay, sorry. I've never played in a PPR league or for money.

Yeah I agree, it's about 20% research and 80% luck.

Yeah it's a lot different, more fun in my POV , but much more cut throat as the main goal is to get better WR's and hopefully snatch up the RB's that catch the ball more often than others. QB isn't really that important hence I got Carr in the last round lol.

I went all in with my frist 3 picks at #1 WR's , but sadly 2 of them are injury prone. And I am taking big chances on rookies with one who's QB is done for the season and the other who is coming off injury but will eventually be the #2 or #3 receiver in a pass heavy offense.

But yeah I already looked at my weeks match up and I am projected to lose by 5 points lol. I don't really pay attention to those projections, but that just shows you my team is not one of the top projected squads in the league. Now if it was regular rules then yeah it would probably be top notch. PPR is a ton of give and take.

    Those projections are meaningless lol.

I am in a league, standard scoring, but QB's get 6 points for passing TD's, so they more closely reflect their actual value, which I like. It doesn't overvalue dual threats, obviously.

Only 4 points for qb td's in our league , and 0.3 points per 5 yards passing. kind of takes away the huge advantage quarterbacks get in other leagues. PPR is more focused on receptions and yards more so than touchdowns anyways. So unless your qb is having a record breaking year it don't mean much unless like you said you have a good qb wr combo.

Yeah, honestly, I prefer a league in which QB's are given proper value. The idea that QB's are equal to WR's and RB's is insane--QB's are clearly far more important.

Eh it just makes things more competitive than one guy winning a ton of games simply because he has tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers tossing touchdowns. It really makes every position important rather than just focusing on who has the best rb and qb, with only the top 3 wide receivers being a relevant thing.

See that the league we will be in I will look for touchdown machines over well rounded. I sure as hell wouldnt go for a wr for any of my first 2 picks in our league unless Antonio brown was available . Even then I'm gonna prefer a solid rb duo over a wr/rb pick.

PPR just demands you pick a more well rounded team that relies on consistency rather than 3 players doing the work. Both are fun though.

Me neither. Good RB's are just too damn difficult to find.

What about OBJ? I bet he puts up some serious numbers. Also, I don't think it would be crazy to grab Amari Cooper in the 2nd. The man has some serious skill.

I got him just to fill a spot. I know he is good, I am just anxious to see what he will do with Teddy not behind center. Shaun Hill can sling the ball though .

See, thats the difference in standard and PPR, if someone has to solid RB's and a stron QB they are going to go far unless someone gets hurt. In PPR you have to be well rounded because 2 guys are not going to carry the whole squad.

And no, I do not trust Eli Manning enough to get OBJ as one of my first picks, I mean yeah he is a beast but the Giants have more weapons this year as well. As far as my boy Amari, Id maybe grab him in the 3rd round at best, preferably 4th round. I would be looking at Brandon Marshall before Amari right now. Carr is a good QB but Amari by far is not his only weapon this year either.

Gonna be at the draft tomorrow. Not sure I know what to do...but as I understand it, if I screw up, the site will make choices for me...right?
